This museum is deserving of a 5 star rating on several areas. The museum is easy to find with clear signposting from Queens Road and lots of free parking on site or the Main Street outside although be warned it is a bit of a hill for those travelling on foot. When you enter through the gates your faced with a beautiful old building which houses the museum and cafe. The reconstructed ww1 trench is outdoors and they have a very well kept garden to explore. Very polite and helpful staff in all areas and we found the museum to be very clean, modern and a lot fitted into a relatively small space considering there being so much to see. Mostly exhibits I would say of interest for adults but all the way around there’s interactive exhibits aimed at children too so good for all ages. We started with lunch in the cafe, nothing major, just soup and a sandwich but it was delicious and would return just for the cafe alone. Next time we will aim to try their cake selection which looked fab. The cafe has lots of seating indoors and some outside too. We were then given our self-tour audio guides and had a great afternoon walking around all the exhibits giving the full history of the Gordon Highlanders. We finished with a guided tour of the ww1 trench and we’re shown around by a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide who really brought the tour alive. Final stop was a quick peek at the gift shop before heading home. Well worth the entry cost and really enjoyed our...
Read moreExcellent Museum - A Must-Visit in Aberdeen! I recently had the pleasure of visiting The Gordon Highlanders Museum in Aberdeen and it was an outstanding experience. Rated as a 5-star Visit Scotland attraction, the museum does an incredible job of bringing to life the 200-year history of "The Finest Regiment in the World". The exhibits are spectacularly displayed, with interactive maps, uniforms, weaponry and more tracing the regiment's story from the Napoleonic Wars to modern day. I was particularly impressed by the full-size WW1 replica trench that you can walk through. The passion and knowledge of the museum guides really brought the history to life. The museum is housed in a beautiful former home of a Scottish artist, with a lovely cafe, gift shop and Victorian gardens on site. You can even book their very special dining hall for special occasions incl. your very own piper 😜Overall It's a perfect day out for all ages, with special audio tours and activities for families. I highly recommend dedicating a few hours to explore this fascinating museum when visiting Aberdeen. It's a top-notch attraction that preserves the legacy of the famous Gordon Highlanders regiment in an engaging and memorable way. I give it my highest recommendation and 5 stars and huge kudos to the guides for their...
Read moreA wonderful museum with an impressive collection. The building itself is pretty and has all the modern amenities which allow comfortable experience for guests of every age/ability. There's a lot to see inside, but it's not overdone. All exhibition rooms are well-designed and very aesthetic. There are also some interactive elements. I have to say you don't need to be a military freak to enjoy this. A lot of stuff like the silverware collection or little bits and pieces of soldiers' equipment can be interesting to everyone. I however am a freak so I especially enjoyed the weapons collection, medals from many different campaigns and of course the famous WW1 trench which is located on the outside. Sadly it was raining when I visited so I didn't take pictures, but on the other hand it only added to the experience. Hats off to the folks who designed and built it, it's a work of art. There was a young guide with us, who was super-passionate about WW1 and had a great storytelling talent. For more sensitive audience and kids this may be a slightly heavy topic, so keep that in mind.
All in all, one of Aberdeen's top attractions. A...
