I was alarmed at the lack of urgency in dealing with a very real hazard. We stayed overnight in room 703 on 21st July. My daughter had washed her hair and went to use the hotel Hairdryer, upon picking up the Hairdryer she found that it rattled, so something was obviously loose inside it, believing that the hotel (4 star!) would not allow faulty equipment to be left in the room she switched it on. Immediately it started to spark and crackle leaving a burning smell which we were surprised did not set off the smoke alarm. We switched it off and opened the window, on closer inspection the body of the Hairdryer was damaged and there was melted plastic on the nozzle. I went down to the reception to report the problem. There were two staff on duty, I informed them that there was a problem with the Hairdryer and what happened, giving my room number, they looked at each other then told me that they would send someone up, writing the room number on a scrap of paper, this was at 22:10. I asked about a replacement Hairdryer which they said they would sort that out for me. I went back to the room and waited, after an hour we decided that they meant as soon as possible/in the morning. We had breakfast downstairs in the restaurant at 06:30, a good selection, but the cooked food was warm, not hot. We got ready to go to my daughters graduation, but still no replacement or anyone visiting the room. When we returned from the ceremony at lunchtime we found that the room cards did not work even though we had paid for a later checkout (when we checked in there were no bottles of water or biscuits that came with the late checkout, and only two cups for a 3 person occupancy, the reception managed to sort this out whilst we were out for a meal and gave us a free drink at the bar) To say that the hotel is a 4 star is a stretch, the room was not prepared for three occupants, the furniture was worn with nail varnish on the table and the top of the fabric chair was very worn/threadbare, no attention to the later checkout with key cards. The only thing that was a plus was the central location, but this was let down by the lack of parking. There was an NCP car park which the hotel gave discount on overnight parking. I do not think that we will be staying at this Jurys Inn or any of their other hotels anytime soon, very...

I stayed here three nights. There's good and bad. The good - the staff are friendly and helpful. Check-in was quick. The rooms are spacious and the beds comfortable. It's a good location if you need the city centre. The breakfast is good and surprisingly seems to stay hot throughout the breakfast period.

The bad - the rooms look old and run-down in places. There are areas where there's been plasterworked fixed that hasn't been repainted. And there's a lot of scuff-marks and worn paint. The bedside phone seems like something out of the 80s. The lighting is really poor - there's no main room light, just a desk lamp and a standard lamp whose bulb had blown. The walls are bare, making for a very drab experience. The toilet roll is a cheap 2-ply that disintegrates as soon as it gets wet. There's also a sense that I'm not trusted as a guest. The kettle has its base in the tray and the toiletries in the bathroom are attached to the walls.

I don't know if it's all rooms or if I was just unlucky, but my room door didn't close properly - it would close until it's got to the latch which it then rested against so you had to remember to pull it to lock it. If you forgot your room was open to anyone who wanted to walk in.

In terms of COVID, despite asking guests to wear masks, very few of the staff lead by example. And there's a a lack of social distancing in the restaurant area as most of the tables are close together.

Overall it's an ok hotel but not one I'm going to be...

In theory and on paper this should be a standard hotel - clean - nothing extravagant- just a standard hotel.

In practice: my room was dirty - stayed 2 nights and the dirt did not go away. There were big long black hairs in the bathroom and actual dirt (Not dust) outside dirt on 2 of my 4 pillows. There were also animal hairs dotted around.

Day one arrived to 5 towels- used one as small hand towel and one small one as bath mat as didn't fancy slipping coming out of the shower and one large one as a bath towel. Day 2 housekeeping had removed those 3 towels and left me with 2.

It's standard practice to put towels on the floor if they need changing - mine weren't- they were all hung up. What a waste and it contributes to the wasteful and unnecessary energy usage that we know and hate about society today.

The shower gel provided was so so clearly watered down to the point that the water was just sitting on top of the gel having not even been mixed in.

I'm sure no one in particular is to blame - it was just no attention to detail of small things - this may be because the staff are worked too hard and have to work too fast through the rooms. They may also be told to remove towels. I do not blame the housekeeping staff. It is rarely their fault and usually just management pushing too hard.

I didn't call down to rectify these issues as each problem I could avoid - I was there for work and was only using the room to sleep in.

I would stay here again and give it...
