Returned on 25Jun2025, This is the 4th time staying here. Booked from Agoda last minute, no clear instruction for check-in but was able to contact the staff with the number provided at the entrance. Within minutes i was given instructions to get into my room without hassle. Given top floor garden view room this time, room was well maintained, clean and newly furnished with a good shower. Breakfast lady this time was nice and attentive. Breakfast was substantial and quite good. Overall a pleasant stay. Also, it’s nice to see that the back garden has been well kept this time. Tip: Bring your own room slippers.
Previously, Stayed here 3 times over the year from lockdown to now. The first 2 times were great experience, we had rooms facing the sea twice and a back garden facing room once. The rooms were good and clean, heaters in room and good shower. The hotel’s location, warm service, lovely back garden and yummy breakfast actually keep bringing us back to this hotel however after 6 months when we returned this time, the standard has dropped and the hotel staff has also changed, service was poor and rude at breakfast, food was not as good and the back garden poorly maintained and abandoned. Having said that Rachel was very lovely as we have arrived early, Rachel saw us at the front gate and jumped out from her car and let us check in early which was so nice of her. The fat blonde hair short lady at breakfast was abrupt, rude and has zero customer service attitude. We were totally ignored at breakfast table and there were only 1 other table at that time, after 15 awkward mins my partner went up to check if she was aware that we were there for breakfast, she ‘ordered’ loudly to return to his table and that she will be with us. And it didn’t happen, she went back to the kitchen hole. During check in Rachel told us that due to low occupancy rate we were allowed to have late check out, on the day while we were getting ready to check out slowly at around 11.20am there was a loud banging on our door and questioned us why we were still in the room! Yes it was that fat blonde short rude lassie again! It was such a poor and sour experience this time. No, I will not return to this hotel if any guest is to be treated this way. Remember there are many nice, lovely and friendly hotels available just doors away!! I really hope the owner look into this before losing more customers who just want to have a good time in this lovely island.
❗️Photos were taken a year ago! The garden is not the same and looking abandoned with missing tables and chairs and over grown grass and the beautiful giant plants are gone. The front door was broken, we can go out but can’t come back in and had to use back entrance to enter...
Read moreGreat location, decent bed and a clean bathroom, but those were the only good parts about our stay at Cannon House Hotel.
We booked a Double Deluxe room, which was advertised to be 124sqft with free toiletries, chocolates, and tea. There were no free toiletries and when questioned about it the staff told us that they 'dont do toiletries or soap', despite it being said on the website. The room was nothing like it was advertised in the pictures and was definitely not the size advertised. We booked specifically as we were promised a bath in the room which we didn't get. When we arrived there was a number on the door to call to be let in, thankfully someone was there to let us into the property but the number on the door was unresponsive to our complaints later on in our stay. The bar that was advertised was never open unless it was breakfast, the 'beer garden' was one picnic bench and the staff were never around and seemed to hide in the sea view rooms to watch TV loudly. The decor was tired, dated and definitely needs an update. On the first night the hot water stopped half way through a shower in tbe en suite we had payed for, and the next day still wasn't working so we had to use the communal bathroom in the shabby basement that appeared to still be under construction but in use for other guests which had a very odd sour smell. There was a key in a strange door in the communal bathroom that led to what looked like a haunted dungeon under the stairs. The WiFi didn't work and there was a dirty plaster in our room. The 2nd floor (which we were on) stank of cigarettes dispite it being listed as a 'smoke free property'. The breakfast my partner had was great, however the vegan breakfast was very small and left much to be desired. Overall, I wouldn't stay at Cannon House Hotel again, although we didn't let it ruin our stay on the beautiful...
Read moreUnfortunately the deceptive portrayal of the rooms and facilities on the Hotel's website is unforgivable, so it's one star from me. The overall standard of service was also simply nowhere near in keeping with what we were asked to pay.
Tragically, the Hotel has evidently been 'modernised' since the last photos were taken, and to a very poor standard overall. The resulting décor is 'modern grey' with white lighting, very reminiscent of a chain hotel but with peeling wallpaper and a crack in the window. The room contained no furniture except the bed, and our double bed was in fact two single beds held together with a double sheet. In the end we were lucky: we asked to view another room, which quite simply looked like the bedroom of somebody going through a rough patch. Exhausted carpet, a wooden plank nailed to the wall, and the TV sitting on a bizarre wooden stand, with not even a desk this time.
The entire hotel is apparently being run by one porter (who also does breakfast). We and others were mostly unable to attract attention by ringing the doorbell, so we had to call the porter's mobile. On our second night I let someone in who was unable to get in by ringing, and who later told us they were starting their first shift. The porter also gave us the wrong room at first (without sea view), before later offering us the one we'd booked. To his credit, he did keep our bag at the hotel for us after we checked out, so we could visit the attractions without our luggage.
Breakfast was arguably of the standard one would expect at a hostel, certainly not a hotel. Cold beans, a quarter of a tomato, and a quarter of a mushroom with veggie sausages, haggis, hash browns and toast.
Overall really quite poor. It made us sad to think that this charmingly decorated building filled with vintage furniture had...
