Where to begin? Most of the counter staff were fine. The African lady who checked us out was useless. Very slow. Did not know what she was doing on the computer. Told us our cab was coming without even calling the service. Another guest approached and started asking about breakfast so she ignored us until I brought her back and told him to wait his turn.
Jo, is just as useless, but she is at least charismatic. She ordered a cab instead of the executive saloon we were charged £97 for. I'm still expecting that refund.
Bell hop was rude, and acted like security not assistance.
The room heater was unbelievably hot. We were not able to adjust it or turn it off ourselves.
Some posters received something special for their anniversaries. Not us.
Worst breakfast we had in Edinburgh.
House cleaning. We had the same stained duvet all week. No sheet. Just duvet. They also made the bed directly over our pajamas. My wife thought her pajamas were stolen, until we remembered the lazy staff probably tucked them in. Hardly changed the trash. The trash can was so small that it needed to be changed often but wasn't even changed daily. We were only given enough detergent for 1 load of laundry and dishes was disappointing. Especially when we did a load of dishes but the staff loaded more dirty in the clean load, again we had no more detergent to run the washer again. The one day they left their McDonald's trash in our room without taking out our trash either. Literally leaving the room worse than when they arrived. We were left with wet and dirty towels most days. Drains were slow and often clogged. Rimmed with red mildew. The TV was supposed to have internet, but that cord and port were broken. Not nearly enough hangers for the closets.
Dinner at lady libertine was actually pretty good. Unfortunately, that was our first meal at the hotel and it set unrealistic expectations for the rest of our stay.
The hallways were migraine inducing with the fragrance being sprayed. Definitely trying to mask something.
2 smoke alarms in one week. 2. Were there actual fires? No. Someone cooking dinner in a wok. To literally quote the counter staff for one of the alarms, "some Chinese family was cooking with a wok." That sentence tells a lot, considering I was just another guest. The other was presumed to be a wedding party vaping. Obviously they didn't mind setting off the alarm at midnight. They just left. The staff laughed off the alarms saying they happen all the time. It took over an hour for each alarm, in the rain at midnight. Two vouchers for cheap sparkling prosecco. Thanks.
Speaking of the wedding party. The bride wanted pictures in the lobby, that fine, but I want to get through to the elevator. Share the space. I almost felt bad for tge bride because she was probably told she would have the space.
The bed and sofa weren't comfortable. The pillows were unbelievably flat despite looking fluffy. Nothing to them whatsoever.
We've had better stays at holiday inn. I would never come back. I would never recommend any one to stay here if I wanted them to...
Read moreThis was my second visit to this gorgeous hotel. My fiancée and I had originally planned to stay for 2 nights, but when we woke up on the third morning, we decided to stay an extra night - because of the hotel's exceptional service. We never knew at the time that this decision would be our nightmare. We were exhausted from our day in the city and were trying to sleep. But to everyone's surprise, the fire alarm rang 2 hours after we had fallen asleep. We woke up from our dream, my wife didn't have time to change her shoes and was rushed to the road across the road from the hotel wearing only her hotel slippers and watched as two fire trucks pulled up in front of the hotel and the firemen entered the hotel. It was raining heavily and my wife was soaking wet from the calf down as the two of them watched the flashing lights of the ambulance trucks in front of the hotel gates. I took the coat I was wearing off over her head, but it still didn't stave off the high fever she had back at the hotel, thinking to myself that the hotel would surely give us a fair compensation. After the fire was over, the sound of the alarm was all in our heads which deprived our sleepiness. We complained to the hotel about it, the employee Ayoola, at the front desk wearing an orange warning vest. “That it was a false/fault alarm, there were no injuries or deaths, so there was nothing we could do other than delaying the fire for an hour until 12am”, He said. After nearly five more minutes of interaction with him, the scenario under his breath was changed to a delay to 1pm. And we were told to contact his supervisor if we had any doubts. So I gave him my mobile phone number. At 10.42am the supervisor Christine called and spoke to us in a negotiating tone, even apologising with a "what can you do about it" attitude. After some negotiation, she finally agreed to extend until 3pm, just because the housekeeping team will be off clocks at 3pm. We felt no respect throughout the whole incident - I don't know if it's because we booked the lowest level of “luxury open plan studio” in Cheval the Edinburgh Grand. Maybe if we have the financial means to afford a higher class suite, the hotel will show us a bit more respect. That's all for now, I'm going to make my wife a cup of hot ginger lemon tea and I just hope the love of my life makes a speedy and...

Although we didn’t sleep much during our vacations. ||I did the mistake to trust Camille at DIRECT TRAVEL. She not only did not sent us to hotels that corresponded to my family interests and preferences but she sent us to the worst hotels. But because we booked with DIRECT TRAVEL, we couldn’t get any compensation or reimbursement ounce there. We were stock in hotels rooms that I will not recommend to my worst enemy. We asked for 5 stars, maybe got 3 stars but lower quality. I never experienced hotels that bad and in such terrible location. ||After our bad experience in London, we arrived in Edinburgh, we thought the worst was being us…well, it was quite the opposite, she sent us to, the hotel, CHEVAL GRAND EDINBURGH. It looked nice but a very noisy tramway was passing in front of it every 2 minutes. It was like it was in our room. Everything was shaking each time. Again, the hotel was located on a busy boulevard surrounded by not the best safe and clean places. |The hotel was a popular place for wedding. We had to endure all the noise day and night and then, the cleaning crew was starting to work at 6am making so much noise that I’m wondering which was the worst between them and the tramway. On top of that, at CHEVAL GRAND, we got stock in the very small elevator with other people for 45 minutes…the thing was that we couldn’t take the stairs instead because the access to the door was blocked. We are lucky that there was no emergency like a fire. ||Especially in Edinburgh the hotel was not at all in the tourist area. We were very far from the main interests.||When we returned home, we expressed our misadventure but they ignored us.||Believe me, you don’t want to deal with this travel agency. Even if we had a very good budget, they sent us to hotels that not only I will have paid much less to stay but absolutely not...
