We have had the worst experience at this hotel.
We were on a business trip and booked the hotel on our way knowing that Holiday Inn Express is a brand and we would get the good service just like any other Holiday Inn Express Hotel that we have been to in the UK.
As soon as we checked in and went to our room, we found that the AC Unit is not working.
The summers are at peak in the UK and you do need AC to be working.
When I called in to the reception, a guy came in and did some minor adjustment in the AC Control Unit telling that it would work fine now
Half an hour went and we saw no sign of improvement in the cooling, we then went to the reception to seek help.
The hotel staff at the reception told us that they do not have an AC Unit in the room as it is an old building and all we can do is offer you Table Fan.
A Table Fan.
Mind you, the centralized AC Unit works perfectly at their lobby and restaurants.
He then said thats all they can do and he didn't bother to say sorry and also said that they don't have a spare room and they are fully booked.
I have been to many hotels across the UK this is by far the worst experience that I experienced. Being empathetic towards your customer is the bare minimum that you should do knowing that your customer is not happy with the service. A lesson learned - I would rather prefer staying in Travelodge than this property in Doncaster P.S : We have gold membership of Holiday...
Read moreReceived a pleasant welcome from staff. Was not aware of work being carried out on our floor until we got out of the lift to see the corridor carpet covered in black plastic and workmen going back and forth. This was only over a small area and did not include the corridor where our room was located. Other than using the lift you would not have been aware of this work as there was no noise and it did not affect our enjoyment of our room.
The room was of a good size and the bathroom had a shower but no shower caps. This was easily solved by going to reception and obtaining one. Wifi in the room was excellent.
It would have been nice to be able to view the food menu in the room but had to go down to the bar area to view this. I had my 2 grandchildren with me and on reading the menu there was no children's meal selection. My 7yr old grandson is a very picky eater and the only item on the menu he would have eaten was a Margarita pizza but was priced at £12 which seemed rather expensive so we walked to the public house about 100 yes across the car park and ate there.
The breakfast, in the hotel, was very good with a good selection of breads, fruit, yoghurts, juices and a hot table with bacon, sausage eggs and beans.
In all our stay was extremely good value , pleasant and ticked all of the boxes for what we wanted...
Read moreI visited this hotel last year and it has definitely gone downhill since then. It has become tired and in need of an upgrade. The reception area was fine but the corridors and my room were tired and badly needed decorating. The room was very basic, just a hanging rack and open shelves, no wardrobe or drawers to put things away. The bed was not comfortable (I kept rolling into the middle) and the furnishings were a hard chair and a very uncomfortable sofa bed (as a sofa). The bathroom seemed clean until you looked at the grouting which was not good! All around the toilet area and the back of the shower the grout was stained and there was a badly cracked tile in front of the toilet! Hardly hygienic. Other guests were noisy too. In their favour the linen (bed & bath) were immaculately clean, white and soft. Breakfast was fine but I don't advise the 'cooked' breakfast - the sausages were horrid, cheap and tasteless, there was no bacon (not run out, just not provided), the scrambled eggs were plastic looking and I didn't try the beans! Cereal, coffee, DIY toast, tea/coffee etc were plentiful and, as a buffet, you could help yourself to what you wanted. Last year wasn't too bad but, going on my experience this year, I will not...
