Well..fist time I went today..wrong time of year? I can't say.. but going off today, it was pretty boring £5 entry spend of something I could see pretty much anywhere with a lake or reservoir or even a pond for that matter. Coots, swan, mallards, grebe, geese, and that's all.. and even them were few and far between. Least the money goes to a good cause right? I do have to say the carpark is NOT motorcycle friendly, the bays are all on big loose stones, I ended up parking partially on a path just to give me piece of mind that my bike would fall over! Please sort this out, it's not fair on motorcycle riders and not for them that need to use the path bit (literally only place I could park that would be safe enough for bike to park). I would say it could do with a few more hides around the wetlands. Probably be a good idea to get someone to go round the hides every so often cleaning them out because some ungrateful people leave cans in them and packets... plus loads of big old cobwebs in and out of the hide slots/covers..had to clears a fair few before I could use my camera, obviously nature and can maintain them constantly, but every so often wouldn't hurt right? (Sorry bit picky that one, but it did get irritating after a while..but been to a few places and not had that problem). Another downfall really is the fact they is only one toilet..and that's in the shop at the beginning..so go then if you need to go! A place that big 4mile i think it is, you could really do with a couple more facilities, even if they're porter loos or something, a guy i past in a hide apologised saying he had an accident..it didn't occur what he was talking about until i smelled poop and seeing him walk a little funny.i will visit again few more time around the year in hopes to capture some other wildlife. Definitely has potential to be...
Read moreA nice walk through this nature reserve, me and two kids. We took the Discovery route and the kids enjoyed it. We spent circa 2 hours walking the route, stopping to view nature, and some time in the Cafe. The routes are stone/hard and ok for baby buggies and wheelchairs. The longest route is circa 5 mile I believe. The Discovery route was circa 1 mile. Cafe was good and the bacon sandwich was really yummy, soft white bread 🍞 with nice salty bacon 🥓 A cup of coffee ☕ also went down a treat. The cafe was clean and tidy. The toilets 🚻 were clean and there were plenty if it gets busy. Disabled access ♿ was good.
We paid £12 to enter family pass cost. This reserve is not part of the RSPB reserve list. But the £12 was worth it. It will be great in spring/summer 🤩
Thanks for having us today 😍

Read moreExcellent day out. Great for bird watching across the sight. Lot's of hides to sit in and watch the wildlife...Lot's of water areas with wading birds visiting...Reed beds with lots of insects, butterflies and deer. Lot's of birds of prey including the resident Marsh harriers. The bitterns are a pleasure to see but you've got to be in the right place at the right time. A lovely place to spend the day. There is a canteen serving food but sometimes due to staff shortages the menu can be limited...I take a picnic just in case but have a hot breakfast buttie if available...it helps support this excellent nature reserve in Doncaster. Great staff and lovely people having a very good experience. I have an annual membership which is the best value if you can visit often. It also has workshops sometimes...see their...
