Ok so we are currently sat in room 12 which is the ground floor front “bedroom” as with all my reviews I’ll be bang up honest! The gentleman that greeted us seems like a genuinely nice bloke which seems to be the general consensus of most reviews….however just because someone is nice does not mean you have to lie about this (or any) place! So pull me back and let me go!|First impressions of the b&b is that it’s very very much not what was in the pictures on booking.com! The place is a tip! The front garden is not very well looked after….which I personally don’t care about as I’m not sleeping there…..well…..yet!|So in entry you’re greeted by a basic dirty house…..sadly this is exactly what I saw on entry, it’s what I’d envisage a hostel to look like! Our room….it stinks! We are really lucky that by some twist of fate we had some Zoflora air freshener in the boot!!! This room smells like an old man lived here for 40 years then died….yesterday! The carpet is filthy, the walls are filthy, the bed is still under review but the bed linen stinks of fart! There’s a decent tv in the room….that’s a positive! Breakfast will be interesting but that’ll be in part 2 along with how did we sleep!!! Which I’ll be bang honest about! The curtains look and smell like they was made from the pants of Jesus and his disciples! The bathroom is certainly not pictured in booking.com! It’s wrank!!! Given the choice between taking a shower in there and licking a tramp I think I’d opt for latter! This room is worth maybe £40-50 for a night at absolute best! And that’d include breakfast….which I’m still pooping myself about because if the general cleanliness is anything to go by then I can only imagine what the kitchen looks like!|Part 2 tomorrow! |Ok….a bit of positive! We slept o.k….not great but o.k! And breakfast was great in all fairness, I can’t fault that…..I will say that again cleaning is pretty poor, the butter/jam holders are covered in grease/dirt…..this may sound picky but I’m being honest…..everything was dirty….cutlery had to be cleaned by ourselves!…..it’s really bad clean wise! |All in all I have to be brutally honest and fair, the hosts are as everyone has said lovely, they really are. The bed….could be better, the breakfast was lovely but the overall cleanliness and standard just isn’t there go call this a hotel! It’s a basic B&B for me…..and that’s ok! If it was sold as a B&B I wouldn’t have slightly higher expectations. The question I always ask myself is “would I stay here again” and the answer is actually YES! I definitely would! If these guys took on a good cleaner and invested in a decorator they could easily charge fair money. To be clear I would stay again if I was doing 1-2 nights maximum. Anything more I’d be elsewhere….unless they did/do the work….which I hope they do because the ownership/welcome is definitely...
Read moreLet's start with the positives. The owners are friendly. They let us in half an hour before check in time. There is free parking on the forecourt. The breakfasts are good with a variety of main courses. Our shower room was, generally, good. There was a charging point in the bedroom. ||||And the downsides. We spent two nights in a small room with a 4 foot bed that was pushed into a corner, so you could only get into it on one side. The dingy looking pillows hung over the edge by 6 inches. The cushions smelt very stale, the covers needed a good wash. The AA and Visit England say, quite clearly, that a 4 foot bed is a single bed, not a double. Perhaps that is why the owners have not had the place inspected. Every time we turned over, we woke each other up, and when my husband wanted to use the loo, I had to get up to let him out. We got very little sleep.||||The room was clean but very tired. The newish shower room ceiling was plastered but not painted. The door was undercoated but not top coated. There was no handle so you couldn't close it from inside the shower room.||||We booked through Booking.com. The pictures showed a quite smart double fronted house, but in fact half of it was sold off about 9 years ago and the "hotel" now is just a semi detached house, in reality a licensed B&B, with a thrown out tub chair outside the drive.||||The new website, launched two weeks ago, is a work of fantasy fiction. Our "Small Double" (sic) is "complemented with modern and luxurious anenities for a wonderful stay". Under amenities ("We do not give you just rooms to stay. We give you an environment so you can experience the best while on a holiday with us. Walk into our hotel and enjoy a refreshing, rejuvenating, day-off with us), there is a paragraph in Latin. When translated by Google, it reads: "During the course of time, developers who are wise do not need it, but in the development of the clinical phase, the airline always needs fear". No idea what that means.||||The public areas of the house were also in great need of tlc, a good clean and revamp. Attention to detail is sadly lacking: a pile of ironed bedlinen was placed on a chair in the guests' lounge, there were several ashtrays with numerous cigarette stubs in the courtyard so sitting out would not be a pleasure.||||I'm genuinely sorry to be so critical. The owners are very likeable, but I feel ripped off at paying £105 per night for a double room that is a single room. This house needs new owners with energy, enthusiasm, vision and aptitude to make it what...
Read moreAfter I had booked I later looked at on-line comments and some of them made me regret my choice. As a result of the comments I considered cancelling but could not, at that stage, find a suitable alternative.||However, it was a very pleasant experience and I cannot agree with some of the negative on-line comments; my experience was good.||I had to phone the proprietor before arrival to obtain information about travel and location and received a great deal of useful information, especially about local bus services. He was extremely helpful.||The accommodation was good and, contrary to some of the comments on-line, was clean. The interior did show some signs of age. But the facilities were more than adequate.||The proprietor and his wife were extremely friendly and helpful. Parking was good.||The breakfasts were exceptional - especially the bacon.||I would be glad to return. I am also glad that I was not able to find alternative accommodation as, had I done so, I would have missed a very pleasant stay. Recommended.|||...
