We went to the Lion for Sunday lunch - it was the only open place in Harlech on a rainy January Sunday.||||This is a real locals pub, untroubled by decorators or 'theming' for many a year. There are two decent sized TVs in the bar, and there was football at a sensible volume on during our visit. There was a near-frenzied cash card game going on at the bar when we arrived (along with a touch of colourful language).||||Even though it was after 2.30pm, it was no trouble to order roast of the day. Also three real ales to choose from, and I had the local / Porthmadog Glaslyn / Purple Moose, which was good if a little cold.||||There was a roaring log fire, and we added another couple of logs. We were very cosy by the time lunch arrived.||||Lunch was a good plateful of beef, with roasties, Yorkshire pud and four vegetables. Looked and tasted very home-cooked.||||Obviously, the #1 attraction in the town is the castle, and this is just across the road.||||If my review has informed you, please reward me with a "Helpful" vote...

Read moreReally disappointed with the service at the pub of this hotel. We went there on Tuesday 5th August my elderly father ordered 2.5 pints of beer and one half of squash. He wasn’t one to able to see the contactless machine properly and the gentleman held it away and my dad did say he thought it might have said £26.60 but maybe it was his eyesight so didn’t query this. We thought nothing of it and when my parents got home from holiday they had indeed been charged £26.60. Please be careful when you go here to check the amount you are paying as we certainly won’t be going back (after having been here before and not being charged anything like this for a similar round). Very sad this...
