Food is really great in this place. We had tarka dhal, chana saag and a veg dansak – all prepared beautifully and tasted great. Waiter/manager accommodated non-dairy diet.
The waiter (and I assume manager) ended up being incredibly rude and hostile to us, unfortunately. Seemed to stem from me calling him out for serving us 2 can-poured pints of Cobra, when the menu stated it was from the tap. There was no one in there, so was very obvious when he tried to subtly crack the cans and pour them out of view of the bar.
Now, I don't go out for Indian food to get drunk. But a cold pint of draught Cobra definitely compliments the meal and adds to the experience. If there's a shiny Cobra tap at the bar and you order one, I think it's fair to expect the staff to tell you if the tap is off, rather than pour it out of a can, hope you don't notice, and still charge a fiver.
After I pointed it out, he made an excuse about the menus not being up to date, and then just continued to be massively rude to us for the rest of our meal. Put our food on the table with the least amount of verbal interaction possible, and then was very keen to take our plates before we'd finished or were ready to leave. There were 2 tables being served including us - low pressure on kitchen and waiting staff, he just wanted to see the back of us.
This is terrible service. I know that a lot of restaurants are struggling at the moment, maybe that leads them to make choices they don't want to make. But if that means treating your customers like mugs, at least put your hands up or have a back up when you get called up on it. Apologise, make a joke, even brush it off and pretend it didn't happen. Anything is better than making the customer(s) feel totally uncomfortable for their whole meal and absolutely determined not to leave a tip or good review.

Read moreBooked to go to Harlech to sight-see. We looked at a few options and chose to have an Indian for our dinner. Upon arrival we were greeted by people leaving, which meant we were the only customers in there.
We ordered our food and had difficulty getting the workers to understand that my girlfriend cannot eat gluten, the guy taking our order said,”I’ll wait for the other guy, he understands more about that” which was fine. We waited…
The other person came out and didn’t really understand what we meant, the only thing he could do was say a menu item or two and eventually we just asked for a meal guaranteed to have no gluten in it.
I asked for a Naan as I am not Coeliac/ gluten intolerant. This created even more of a problem as they tried to put two Naans down on our order…
When we got our food it was slightly on the warmer side. My beer was from a bottle and not draught(which was stated on the menu). My girlfriend had a flat cider which was advertised on the menu as Strongbow.
There was no music, no ambience and the server was even watching videos on his phone out loud. This meant we had to stop our conversation and wait until he had stopped watching.
I enjoyed the food, but nothing else. I was later informed that the locals...
Read moreThis was a disappointing experience. On the plus side the food was pretty good and reasonably priced, hence a second star. The problems are many and need a list: When told I had an intolerance to onion I was recommended and served a spinach potato mix that tasted good but was loaded with diced onion. No apology. Pickles tray was served with lime pickle 3/4 eaten already. No apology. This tray was presumed to be done with with half remain ling and we had to insist to keep it. When the dishes arrived, there was no cutlery. When I approached them (you have to physically get up to get their attention) I politely explained with apology. The cutlery was deposited in a pile in the centre of the table. Pretty sure no apology there either. The drinks were not cold.
In all a very very shoddy service. We both agreed a local chip shop would have been a...
