I don’t like to leave bad reviews but I feel had I been made more aware of the Rose Chappell Cottage at Peregrine Hall I would have ensured we didn’t have it as it seems to be the only cottage people have issues with. I can see what the owner is trying to achieve with it being shabby chic but it’s very tired and the sofa needs replacing as you can feel the metal bars when you lie on it. The grounds are beautiful at the hall and it’s a very lovely atmosphere and peaceful. The other cottages look great but I can only review ours and for two reasons we would not stay again. The heating in the cottages is controlled by a main boiler and you cannot turn it on. As with any old properties they are cold, in the evenings we had to have the duvet on us sitting on the sofa as it was so cold. When I enquired about the heating I was informed of the temperature outside which was not very helpful as inside the cottage throughout our whole stay was colder than the outside. A small heater is provided but with how big and open the cottage is, it does nothing. I do feel the cold more than most but even my boyfriend who is a shorts and t-shirt guy in the winter was cold. The biggest issue we had was the info guide, we started turning the pages and the worst smell hit us both. All the pages were stained yellow and stunk of dog wee. We returned the info guide and explained a dog had weed on it and we didn’t want it in the cottage. It was returned having been cleaned later in the evening but although the paper had been replaced the plastic wallets inside the folder still very much contained wee. We didn’t see the point in raising it again and left it. We mentioned it on departure as was informed it was spilt coffee from another guest a couple of weeks ago!! First of all I’ve never smelt coffee like that before and we still think it was dog wee as it was under the coffee table which is the right height for a dog to cock it’s leg and second of all if it was from a couple of weeks ago surely it is better to inform guests of it at the start and apologise for it or leave the info guide out and send it all in an email. We was so looking forward to staying in Peregrine Hall as it looked amazing in the pictures and at £115 per night you expect a certain standard which unfortunately...
Read moreWe stayed 8 days and are highly disappointed. We stayed in Chapel Cottage, Rose. It might be, that others of the several cottages are alright, but this one was not.||||The owner Pia is friendly person. She lend us her garden discount card, such we could save entree fee in several gardens of Cornwall. The garden of Peregrine cottages is also a nice place and can be used to spend time in it.||||The cottage Chapel Rose is far away from the promoted "high standard" and from being "modern" as it is advertised. ||||The worst thing is the bathroom (badroom) and the bed. ||The bathroom is so small, that you cannot bend to wash your face in the tiny hand basin without opening the door behind you. The water was just warm enough not to freeze, but was never hot, like one would like to enjoy after a cold day.||The bed is not wider then 140cm and the springs of the old mattress are bothering your sleep.||||The kitchens oven is as donation for a museum, the rest of the kitchen is a puzzle of different furniture’s. It looks very cheap. The cutlery is cheap metal. The water kettle is the cheapest one could get in a store.||||There is a musty smell in the room, as soon we closed the window. We had to wash also our unused clothes after we returned home.||||The linoleum and the fitted carpet should be replaced, it looks not very well and carpets are no hygienic floors.||||The outside garden and greens looks nice, but pool was cold, we believe it was not solar heated, whatever the heating performance is supposed to be.||||Conclusion: We would never recommend the Chapel cottage to friends. It is not worth to pay more than 50% of the prize we had to pay. It is far away from the advertised and promoted characteristics and this is the problem. We booked a comfortable high standard modern cottage, but got low standard. Either they upgrade the chapel cottage interiors to the promoted characteristics or they drop prize and modify their...
Read moreWhat a fabulously beautiful and peaceful place to have found. ||Such a warm, helpful and considerate welcome from Pia with a lovely smile and made to feel so at home immediately. ||At home is the word - I was struggling to find a longer stay whilst waiting for my house to complete and so I was able to make myself very much at home for a long booking. ||I was so happy to stay for 3 months from beginning of April till the end of June !!!(2021)||Very importantly the internet connection was superb, vital with remaining in touch for me with the progress of my house and to enjoy streaming movies. ||The grounds are so beautiful and wonderfully planted with wisteria, clematis, climbing roses and masses of trees and camellias amongst the many lovely plants and extensive lawns. ||The views are superb from Rose Cottage and it is so quiet and peaceful with just the birds and owls to listen to. ||There is also the extended family of larmas and chickens which are just adorable and won my heart in an instant. ||I had the pleasure of staying in Rose, Stable and Stable End. All lovely with their own characters and appeal. ||Whilst of course I was relieved to have my house finally complete I was sad to leave as this really provided a home for me and vital R+R at a very stressful time. ||I would so recommend staying here and how friendly, helpful and accommodating the whole family are. ||If you are looking for peace and quiet in beautiful surroundings with very helpful and considerate hosts in a location so close to many fantastic holiday spots, Fowey, Charlestown, Lanhydrock, Lost Gardens of Heligan, Lostwithiel, Bodmin Moor, Eden, to name just a few and wonderful walks nearby and also lovely places off the beaten track so to speak - relax and enjoy your stay.
