5* dog friendly spa break!? Its a yes from us. We visited Seaham Hall Hotel & Spa and it was the perfect break. 30 minutes from Newcastle, the facilities are fantastic plus the garden suites are dog friendly so you can take your furry friends. Treatments are incredible and the food is delish. Plus book more than 28 days in advance for 20% off. @Seaham Hall #spabreaks #spa #spanortheast #spalife #weekendbreaks #breaks #weekends #seaham #seahamhall #spatrip

We stayed at Seaham Hall on 11th August 2025 to celebrate my partner’s 30th birthday. Sadly, the experience didn’t live up to expectations, especially given the premium price tag. We paid £425 for a Junior Suite Sea View and £80 for dinner at the on-site restaurant (formerly Ozone, now Geko). While the room was nicely styled, it was clearly tired: the electronic lighting controls didn’t work, and the bathroom heating was permanently on, making the room and corridor uncomfortably hot. The spa was the biggest disappointment. I think the photos on the website are very misleading. I was unable to take pictures inside the spa so cannot demonstrate what the place really looks like. The spa was the main reason we booked, but it is small, dated, and overcrowded. There were dirty towels left around, and limited capacity meant we struggled to access the pools and jacuzzis. The atmosphere was far from relaxing, with loud guests making the experience uncomfortable. Most concerningly, both my partner and I developed chlorine burns after using the jacuzzi in the sauna area. We’ve attached photos of the reaction on both our bodies. Seaham Hall confirmed their chlorine levels were within legal limits, but the reaction was real and distressing. The evening meal was underwhelming — despite ordering a “big plate,” I left hungry. (£30 for a poached chicken breast with no carbs). Breakfast was standard and unremarkable, not what you’d expect from a 5-star hotel. On a positive note, the staff were genuinely lovely and very friendly, and we appreciated their warmth and professionalism throughout our stay. I raised a formal complaint and was offered a return spa visit (which I declined) and later £150 in credit. I requested a monetary refund instead, given the ruined occasion, but this was refused. I suggested a refund of 50% of the room cost and the full meal, which I felt was fair, but this was also declined. I’m sharing this review to help others make an informed decision. If you’re booking for a special occasion and expecting a luxury spa experience, I’d recommend managing your expectations carefully. (Photos attached: rash from chlorine exposure, room details)

Booked here as a treat for my birthday as fairly local and gets good reviews. Check in was quick, but only one staff member so had to wait a while as two people before us. Our bag was looked after and taken to the room as we arrived before the 3pm check in time to use the spa. ||Spa area very nice and checked in there before a quick tour to show us what was available. Changing rooms had plenty of lockers to store your things. Pool and outside areas very nice. As it was sunny all the loungers by the outside pool were full. This area is quite small as well so limited. We ended up inside but that was fine. My partner used the sauna and pool but as I was having massage I didn't want to get wet. ||My treatment by Aimee was very relaxing and enjoyable. She used just the right amount of pressure to suit. The products all smelt amazing too. The sorbet you get afterwards in the quiet room was a nice little surprise. ||We then went to find our room which was fabulous. Absolutely massive. The only issue was the strange old fashioned plug sockets which meant you couldn't charge your phone next to the bed. Luckily there were modern sockets available too but took a bit of checking around to find them. There was also a plethora of light switches to work through to find out how to actually turn them on and off. Air conditioning very effective at keeping the room comfortable. Bed also very comfortable and huge! ||The biggest disappointment was dinner and in particular the, I presume, head waiter. When choosing the wine he made a comment to my partner about how an orange wine was good for avoiding hangovers, especially as he had noticed that my partner had already had three Peronis while we were on the terrace before dinner. As it only came in half pints, this is not exactly a huge amount. This was somewhat inappropriate and made my partner feel that he was being judged. This waiter then went on to say how he had drunk three bottles once while reading and hadn't had a hangover. Do we really need to hear this?||Not sure about the tapas idea behind the menu. Most of the food was fine. However, the duck ragu with pasta was excessively salty and the fries were also over salted. We couldn't finish either of them. My salted cod bites and aged duck were lovely, as was the sea bass, the cauliflower steak not so much. Quite watery and bland despite all the green chilli on it that wasn't mentioned in the description. I'm not a big chilli fan so wouldn't have ordered it if I'd known. Food quite expensive even allowing for the TDR allowance. ||Breakfast was good with a good range of options. ||Overall a mixed bag. Most staff friendly and efficient. Spa lovely. Restaurant disappointing. Would come back for the spa but not for dinner. It also seems to be turning into a holiday park with the chalets being built in...

Spa Day for 3 people.... We have been to a number of the Spa's in the north East area, Ramside Hall, Rockcliffe and now Seaham hall, once voted the UK's number one spa and I am sad to say this is not the case any longer. From the moment we arrived we felt like we were a bit of an inconvenience to the reception staff and despite having booked months ago and requesting early treatments so that we could relax and enjoy the spa facilities and lunch without having to worry about having a full stomach, we were told that as we had booked with a gift voucher the therapist could not offer us our chosen morning slots and we would have spa time, followed by lunch at 12 and then treatments at 2.30pm. Spa facilities - we found were sub standard to the facilities at both Rockcliffe and Ramside, they were tired and dated. The supposed NEW infinity pool is more of an infinity puddle and looks onto sun loungers, so anyone wanting to enjoy the pool and infinity feature, well you can't! The atmosphere was completly ruined by people sitting around the outdoor pool Smoking and talking loudly and not a single member of staff in site to prevent this. Lockers - What a mess.... Locked out... All 3 of us...so you have to go to reception, get the key to unlock it and then move your things to another locker. Lunch - pan Asian cuisine...it was bland and tasteless and over priced. The Treatment. And the whole reason why we were there... Whilst the lady that done the treatment was lovely the room was tired and needed a freshen up... Towels were old and faded.... And the treatment itself was like nothing I have ever had before and not in a good way... The oils had very little aroma to them at all and I am sorry to say I didn't leave feeling relaxed at all. The quiet room was anything but.. Which was due to the group of women talking and laughing and messing about with the electric seats and once again not member of staff to police it. In conclusion the whole feel from start to finish wasn't a relaxing serene one, the entire staff morale seemed quite low and not one person seemed happy to be there or have us there and it came through loud and clear. We walked out through reception and barely got a goodbye as the girls were too busy talking to one another to pay attention or ask if we had enjoyed our day. We enjoyed Rockcliffe Hall beautiful surroundings but Ramside Hall has been the cream of the crop so far... Friendly welcoming and highly trained staff who can't do enough for you, beautiful relaxing spa facilities, amazing treatments and rooms and delicious food. Next stop will be Rudding Park in Harrogate which actually was a recommendation from one of the staff at...

Although we only stayed for one night, i can happily say Seaham Hall is deserving of its awards. |Starting with the room, we had suite 6, spacious and luxurious without being too overwhelming (unless you stare at the butterflies on the headboard for too long). Easily accessible heating and cooling system ensured the room to be at our most comfortable temperature for the entire duration of our stay. I genuinely appreciate how quiet the room was, no creaks in the floor and minimal noise from opening and closing doors of the other suites - you couldnt even hear the shower from the bedroom. |We stayed for our anniversary and were greeted by some beautifully handcrafted chocolates from Lauden in Leeds (this means a lot coming from a baker and chocolatier). |There were high standard snacks and drinks such as marlish water and proper popcorn as well as a pod machine for coffee and still water carafe if desired. |We went for synthetic bedding and it was super comfortable, especially the pillows, and helped to keep us cool along with the temperature system. |All room service and hotel info is available on a tablet in the room and multiple phones throughout the room to phone reception if needs be. We ordered cocktails on the evening and they were quickly delivered to the room. However, as someone who doesnt typically enjoy the taste of alcohol, i would have liked to see some more sweeter options if i werent to go for non alcoholic but thats just a preference. |All staff from reception to spa to waitressing were very friendly and hospitable. We enjoyed our breakfast in the main dining hall with it being well lit and tables well spaced. I went for the eggs benedict and my only qualm was that the hollandaise was a tad too vinegary/acidic for my liking but the eggs and muffins i enjoyed. |I think the car park for the hotel could do with having some more spaces as when we arrived, all spaces (about 12) were full and there was one tight space to parallel park in front of those in the spaces. This may have been due to a wedding happening on the day of our arrival as there were a few spaces available at the time of our check out but i feel as though even a slightly larger car park could be of benefit. |Overall, we have left Seahm Hall full and content, already wanting to plan...
