Station Inn Whitby — Hotel in Great Britain

I didn't actually get to stay at this hotel, I am sure from the reviews it is very nice. However I call into question the business practices and ethics of the people who operate it. I booked through a third party for the busy Halloween week. I had to cancel sadly because my Mum died, I thought under the circumstances they would refund my deposit as they would be bound to re sell the room. But know they wouldn't, they did say that they would not charge me the full amount. I spoke to them on the phone and the booking agent also tried to persuade them. But rules are rules. I now discover they have taken the full amount from my credit card and will not refund that either. I even offered to re-book another time. They have of course re sold the room and now have over £300 of my money in their bank as a bonus. Great traditional Pub with a young staff team who are very efficient, friendly and helpful. Well located for everything in Whitby. The rooms are nicely decorated with modern contemporary furniture and colour scheme. Very comfortable bed and a great shower/bathroom. My only complaint would be that Room 4 doesn't have any opening window, which makes the room extremely humid. A Dyson fan was already blowing air around the room when we arrived but it didn't really help cool the room down in what had been a hot day! Travled from Canada and have been here for a week. The rooms are very fresh and comfortable! The views from the room are spectacular. Located in the middle of town close to everything one needs. The staff has become family, always willing to go to extra mile to make you comfortable. As there are no car rental "hire" companies in town, Geo Harrison car dealership will rent a small van for an excellent price. The bar downstairs is busy and well packed, with the biggest selection of beer on tap and entertainment nightly. The only sad thing I have to say is that we are leaving tomorrow.
