I've stayed here 3 or 4 times for work. I posted a review a few months ago and gave it 4 stars. The last time I stayed here, there had been a thunder storm which I think temporarily knocked off the electrics. By the time I got there and checked in the electrics were back, but the water was off to many of the rooms. I believe a water pump switch had gone off. Certainly from about 6.30pm -11pm I had no water in my room. This meant I couldn't use the toilet or even wash my hands or fill up the kettle to make a drink. In fairness to her the duty manager was trying her best to resolve things. And once the plumber came out later in the evening, and presumably flicked a switch, the water supply was restored. This experience may seem trivial, but after a long day's work, I couldn't relax or go to bed until I knew I had some water to wash with and go to the toilet. Very basic things.|The following morning when I checked out I waited for the member of staff (not the duty manager of the previous night) to acknowledge what had happened or give some sort of apology for the inconvenience, but nothing was forthcoming.|Reflecting on the stay, it struck me that training was a bit lacking here. Did the staff need some training on what to do to reset the water supply pump (if it was just a case of flicking a switch or restarting)? Did the staff need a bit of training on acknowledging an issue experienced by the customers, in this case a basic First World need for a water supply to a hotel bedroom? I don't know. I've given the hotel 3 stars because they are well meaning people at this hotel. I'm not sure about the support they get from the owners though.|A tip...As the kitchen wasn't working when I was there (due to the earlier power outage), I wandered up the street to Kings (I think) takeaway, a very good, clean establishment...

I stayed here recently for work and I found the experience very good. I had one of the rooms on the 2nd floor overlooking the courtyard area. Looking at some of the previous reviews on here and my memory of staying here about 10 years ago, I wasn't expecting much. However, I was impressed. The room and ensuite were great, well equipped, clean, tidy and comfortable. |All I can think is that some of the rooms haven't been refurbed. I paid an extra tenner (I think) to stay in one of the better rooms (these rooms have names rather than numbers) and it was money well spent. |I ate a meal in the bar/ restaurant area on the ground floor, which was fine. There was a nice atmosphere on the ground floor that evening with various rooms rented out to groups for meetings, and of all things, a ukulele class! This was not noisy or in any way intrusive, just pleasant.|Calne itself is a nice place to have a stroll around. There is a public car park on the opposite side of the road. It cost me £2.80 to park there from 3pm-9am which I though was very reasonable. There is a Sainsbury's on the other side of the car park that is open 7am-9pm.|As I have to attend a monthly meeting about 10 miles away for the next year, I know where I'll try to stay from now on.|Only one minor downside was the boiling water dispenser for tea at breakfast. I found it to be hot water rather than boiling water. No doubt, easy for the...

Very sorry to say this was a disappointing experience. There are two main problems at this hotel. One is upkeep of the property. I found the room to be both badly maintained and dirty. One of the beds was broken. Cobwebs hung from every corner. The bathroom I would class as hazardous with grimy appliances, rotting black mould on the floor, walls and windows, an over-bath shower with no safety handles, no non slip mat for guests to use and no safety valve on the shower flow itself. The second issue is poorly trained staff, whose interaction with guests can at best be described as avoidant. On both mornings, guests resorted to hunting down the invisible and uncommunicative staff, to provide basic items like plates and cutlery at the self-service buffet. I'm pleased to say that when found, the duty manager was courteous and sympathetic. There being no alternative rooms available, she arranged a refund in the light of our comments. However, the room remained uncleaned for the rest of our stay. The Lansdowne is the only hotel in Calne and it seems to take its customers for granted as a result. I visit this area often but I'm unlikely to return to this hotel if things don't...

Poor start but got much better. Finding a parking space took a few trips around the block. We stood at the check-in desk (left hand side of the bar) for 5 minutes before somebody came to see us. During this time various bar staff came and went but never acknowledged us. One male staff member spent a good two minutes chatting to a waitress but in that time never made eye contact with us. I know they do not do the checking-in but a "somebody will be with you soon" would have been appreciated. The room was large and quite smart. Massive walk in shower (no bath). The room was so big the TV appeared smaller than my phone screen! The highlight of the stay was the evening food. Both meals were very good. Continental breakfast was also good. Would happily stop here again if needed to.

A very old and historical building, built for the convenience of travellers in days gone by. Now, with a recent refit and more than just a 'lick' of paint, it is STILL an old building, refitted for the convenience of travellers and others. Serving good food at very reasonable prices (my own visit was for lunch and a drink) by staff well trained in customer facing skills, in sensitively restored surroundings, this is even today the foremost hostillery in the town. And, it's on the Cask Mark Ale Trail, an accolade to this reviewer that trumps all the others. The accreditation is very much deserved, the cellar is well kept and the ale in noble condition. Well done the Lansdown - from one very happy patron.

We hired the Lansdowne for our wedding reception and it was great. They even let us use their dining room instead of the function room because we had dogs with us. They let us set up the room how we liked and even moved tables in and out of the room for us. The buffet was amazing, everyone kept going on about how good it was, and the staff were really attentive. Most of my family and friends also stayed there, and I did for one night, and the rooms were really nice. We also ate dinner there the first night which everyone enjoyed. We basically spent most of the weekend there in one way or another and had a great time. Would recommend to anyone planning a wedding or other event in Calne.
