We booked multiple chalets and they messed up two of the bookings. The chalet was already occupied when we arrived and then we were all spread out across the site and had to drive.
One of the chalets absolutely stank of marijuana and when we raised this with the owner, she told us it was just a smell of burnt toast. When we requested to move as we had two young children staying in that chalet and she told us they had no others available and then she said we could have just left if we weren’t happy. Housekeeping came and confirmed there was a bad smell which was not burnt toast and tried to spray the room for us but it made no difference. Upon reading some of the other reviews after I returned home, I found that many other visitors had also had similar experiences and I wished I had taken more notice of the bad reviews- I would never have booked.
One of the chalets went through £20 of credit in less than 36 hours. When we called maintenance they informed us that it had been set to charge at a higher rate and when he tried to add credit to the meter, it didn’t register the credit he had added. It’s all a scam really. And the fact that they don’t tell you until after you’ve booked that you have to pay for electricity is a joke.
The site was filled with racist people and we were scared throughout our stay. We had no other option to move as we have paid over £1100 for our stay and travelled over 5 hours with young children and babies.
The owner sent the most rudest message when we raised our concerns and I would not recommend anyone to stay at California Sands- or if you do, don’t stay in the ones owned by these people who overbook, overcharge and are extremely rude.

Read moreA decently sized chalet park with facilities for families. The chalets are mostly, if not all, owned privately and available for let according to the owner's preferences. The site has everything a family needs for a decent trip away, and is close to attractions like Thrigby Hall (a small zoo), the Norfolk Broads and Greath Yarmouth with its pleasure beach attractions. The site itself is five to ten minutes from the beach, and boasts a fast food place, a cafe, a swimming pool, an arcade, a small shop and a child friendly club. Even during busy times the site is peaceful, with the chalets set out in squares with plenty of grass to accommodate dogs or children's activities. For a British seaside holiday, this site is ideal, just ensure that the particular chalet you rent has good reviews as the internal maintenance and decor varies wildly...
Read moreA chalet only site, which is very basic with not much more than an arcade, newish pool & a run down club house with bingo & nightly entertainment. However, its actually a little gem and has much pulling power. Sited next to a beautiful stretch of coastline sand & pebble, which can be walked to in 10 but has parking for those driving (3mins) Its ideally placed just outside of Grt Yarmouth town centre ( large Asda) by 10mins drive which means quick access to many if not most tourist spots without hitting too much inner town traffic. Local to the site you are spoilt for chip shops & crab bar, farm shops all in a 3 mile radius. With so much to do in the area we found this site the perfect base its clean with large grassy areas and well maintained with no trouble, making it ideal...
