One to be aware of if you have a smaller van the one member of staff here stated my van was not big enough for the site?||||I attended this site at abbet wood on the 02/08/23 which is my first use of my new membership which i purchased for the caravan club last month. Having driven up from North Devon to abbey wood which is 231 miles and around Four and a half hours with my partner. This appeared to be the perfect site for us as we often go to London and was nice and near to the Elizabeth line to take us into central london and the emirates stadium.||||I entered the reception area to book in at aprrox 15.00 on the 02/08/23. I was greeted by a female member of staff. I told her my name to book in, she then turned and looked out the window and took a look at my van which is a Renault Kangoo Maxi which i have converted myself and includes a side awning. I understand that this is a slightly alternative type of vehicle to say a T5 or larger camper, however it has all the equipment we require to sleep in etc as well as the awning and is more of a micro camper which i use to drive to work.||||The female member of staff then stated to me that this was not a camper van and was just a small white van and that i could not stay here with that vehicle. I was slightly shocked and stated that it had everything required to camp in. She then started to say that it is just a van and that it needed to have Vents? which i have fitted an air fan. I had requested a hard standing with awing pitch which is appropriate for cars with a roof tent, which i did suggest to the member of staff she replied that i did not have a roof tent, i then asked what's the difference to no reply. As we were talking a Volkswagon T4 entered the park which had no Vents and was only slightly bigger than my van. I then asked why are they allowed in and i am not, again to no answer which indicated to me that there was slight prejudice towards me and my van . ||||The women then demanded to see the rear of my van witnessed by my partner who was sat in the front wondering what on earth was going on. I then opened the rear doors (no Pun intended) to show that i had a sliding bed, electrics and diesel heater all installed in the van.||||After giving the member of staff a free full tour of my Renault kangoo maxi we then returned to the reception. She stated that the caravan club has strict rules on this type of thing regarding the size of vehicles, i am yet to find these policy's so any direction to these would be of great help. The member of staff continued to go on about the small size of the van and how i should not have booked this pitch or the park. She then said if i were to stay that her big bosses would kick off at her and that they patrol the park but were currently off site. Seeing as the situation was not going to be resolved I asked if i could then have a refund and would then have to seek other accommodation meaning that i would have also missed the Football Game i had purchased tickets for that evening kicking off shortly. The member of staff then said that she could put me in plot 44 which is tucked away and no one could see me parked there such as management. I then entered the park and parked at 44 plot.||||I don't see how it matters what vehicle i park in the plot as i have still paid the exact same amount of money as someone with a motor home would have done. I booked a hard standing pitch as vehicle are not permitted on the camping field.||||I have since contacted the Caravan Club to discuss whether the things this female member of staff was saying about the size of my van, the vents, and the policy's were true or if she just had a prejudice towards small vans or even myself. If everything she is saying turn out to be accurate i hold my hands up and the caravan club needs to advertise that micro campers such as Caddys, berlingos and kangoo's cannot book to stay in their parks. However if the member of staff is lying about these rules then i suggest that abbey wood should ask this women to be more polite to customers and being an employed adult she should know better as i am m sure she wouldn't like her own family being treated like she did to me and mine. She has totally let your team down and i highly suspect that there has been other episodes of this type of behaviour to customers in relation to this particular member of staff. ||||The park would of been 5 stars had it not been for the member of staff at the very beginning having driven 231 miles and then being told your van is not a camper and being told i could not stay here, which means unfortunately it is a 1 star and i will not be returning cancelling all future booked stays here as i am not driving that distance to be having a discussion about my vans size and how i was not welcome. I look forward to hearing back from the caravan club in response to this incident involving this...
Read moreThings that are important to me when camping: shower facilities, location, pitch and staff. The shower facilities are beautifully kept clean, very well thought out, warm and practical. However, don’t rely on the hairdryers, they are next to useless, and there are no plug sockets next to the mirrors for hair straighteners. The laundry room is good, £4 for a wash and £1 for the dryer with extra hand washing sinks. The reception has a very limited amount of things for sale, just essentials and ice creams. There is no cafe, though it is close to the village centre and there are cafes and fast food there if you don’t want to cook. The location is perfect for commuting into central London for sightseeing, a gentle 10 minute stroll to the station. It’s unexpected to find this campsite in the middle of a London housing estate. Sainsbury’s is literally 4 minutes drive away. There is nothing for entertainment on this site, as most people are out for the day, so no loud music blasting means most people are in bed by 10pm or 11pm at the latest. We pitched a tent for 10 days, a family of four. The tent field is very relaxed. We could pitch where we wanted to near an electric source. There were no boundaries to stick to which gave us the freedom to put the tent where we wanted to. It was busy when we went in August, but there were no problems being in anybody’s way. It is slightly in a slope, but not enough to fall out of bed, and the ground was very hard to peg in, but it was during a heatwave and the ground was solid. Beware of the local squirrels and foxes! They like to steal shoes! Also, we had squirrels gnaw through the back of our food cupboard and eat our food as we left it in the awning on our first day out. After that we left it inside the main tent with our bag of shoes when we went out to be on the safe side! The staff were very helpful and polite when we needed them. They are always busy keeping the site clean and maintained. A recommendation would be not to pay for the on site WiFi. I requested a refund which was easily enough done. I paid £10 for each gadget for 7 days, but it was never used as I couldn’t get on. Patchy at best. I decided to pay for a data add on for myself and the kids instead. It was much more reliable. To conclude, we had a very pleasant stay here in Abbeywood. Definitely recommended for a central...
Read moreDespite just being off the main road it’s actually very quiet here Although I’ve just realised it’s more of a caravan and motorhome park clearly they do cater for non electric and electric hook up, however the camping area is quite small , just one section and only disappointing thing about this whole area is completely uneven and not even levelled out, motorhomes can have hydraulics to adjust so they’re still level but when you’re in a tent if it’s lopsided it’s lopsided and our tent was of no exception, we found it very challenging at times to cook because the end of our tent dipped down so much, the table and stove was uneven, there were loads of massive trees in the camping area, but we did get a bit of sun just depends on where your pithed because the trees block out the sunlight Toilets are immaculate, as was the laundry and washing area to wash your cutlery and dishes. They could’ve done with some bigger bins however the bins to my observation are collected twice a day.
Security you need a swipe card to get in and out of the complex which is good for added security, if you lose the card there is a £10 charge for this. It’s nice here camping in Abbey Wood despite not being out in the countryside Abbey Wood is still within London but it’s very nice it’s quiet, it’s family orientated. despite the fact that the company do the best they can, there were poo in certain areas around the campsite which due to maybe foxes or some irresponsible pet owners they’ve allowed to let their animals poo on the grass and not clear up the mess, apart from that nice little area for the children to play football showers exceptionally clean toilets, clean overall
At first when I was told you can’t park your car next to your caravan it has to be the car park I thought oh gosh that means I’ll be parking miles away and have to drag with it however the car park is still within walking distance of a tent which is good so we don’t have to walk that far to get items and in fact it’s actually better that way the car is next to tense course also for the safety of...
