I stayed here for one night in a male dorm, the location is perfect if you're going to see something at Alexandra Palace, which is well within walking distance - even for someone like me with a disability.
Positives - the mattress I slept on was by far the most comfortable I have even experienced at any hostel, the place was spotless and staff very friendly and helpful. The location is also ideal - right opposite Wood Green tube station, nearby is also a mall and high street with plenty of shopping and dining options.
Negatives - Accessibility left a lot to be desired! To access the hostel/dorm you need to use a key code lock which unfortunately for me with my disability was impossible. I couldn't enter the code to get through the doors and gave up after a few attempts as it became painful to try. Other guests staying in the dorm obviously had the same issue as the dorm door was left ajar all night so that people could come and go without having to use it. This surely is a massive issue for guest safety?
A simple electronic key card system would do wonders here. Yes, the key code entry locks look hipstery and cool (this building on the whole seems to massively value looks over function) but they're just not working and really do need replacing. I'd also messaged ahead and asked the property to allocate me a bottom bunk, this wasn't arranged but luckily was sorted fairly quickly once I raised the issue. As it stands - I wouldn't stay here again simply on the grounds of poor accessibility but it's a nice, clean and comfortable hostel and the dorm is much more generous with space than any other I've stayed in, even if it is impossible to enter for some with the stupid key code locks!
This could be a genuinely great hostel experience, the place just needs a little bit of thought put into...
Read moreIf you're looking for somewhere to SLEEP, I do not recommend this hotel! |We stayed for 1 night and got no sleep due to an event on in the room above ours. |This is a pretty old building so the walls, floors etc are all very thin. The music was SO loud in our room it was vibrating the lights! and could be easily heard word for word....even in the shower!! |We complained to reception who told us there were no other rooms available...the lady working spoke with the hotel manager who was off. She informed her the event was on till 1am but the music would be turned down at 12....this did not happen! When they finally turned the music off at 1:30 they then spend another 2 hours dragging furniture around which was also incredibly loud! |We finally fell asleep and were then startled awake before 8am by them dragging heavy furniture around again!! |We complained again when checking out and member of staff apologised but was not sympathetic to the situation at all. We felt it was as though they cared more about keeping the event guests happy than the hotel residents. The manager was still off but was due in the following day, our information was to be passed to her for her to call us (as we obviously requested a full refund)....we've still heard nothing from her!....||My husband and I never complain and if there's a problem we just suck it up, but this was so shocking and unbelievable it could...
Read moreI have never stayed in the hotel as i live in the area, however i come here to indulge their Japanese food or have a drink. Their ice coffee is delicious. The staff friendly, atmosphere lovely i feel like im In New York when i go here. I did once though have a not very nice meal, only the once and i have eaten here a lot, however they rectified it right away, it did not put me off going back due to how they handled the situation. Normally i would not return but like i said, we are not perfect mistakes happened and they dealt with it very professionally which highly impressed me. I love this place its like a little get away from the craziness of Wood Green. They have cosy seats to sit in and have a drink a bevy and mingle. I know they have event nights but i have not been to any i will though one day. I highly recommend this little gem in the heart of Wood Green. If people are coming from out of town, then its a good place to stay as the Tube station it 2 minutes away, all amenities around and night bus 29 is a regular bus runs from WG to Camden to Tragalgar Square so its a good base. Tube ride is like 25 minutes into the west end and heathrow airport is on the piccadilly line so its super easy to get to this place. Lots of local Turkish food and Alexander Palace which is up the road and has great views of the City night line, a lovely park and has lots of activities going...
