First of all, I am comparing this place to others I spent the last two weeks in Alaska all way cheaper and all much better than this one. First the good stuff: it’s a good location from the airport and it has a remarkable stocked pantry to make your own breakfast. The bed was very comfortable and with clean sheets and the TV even had a Hulu account. |On the so-so side, Arriving is also a little strange because the side of the property has two big old RVs parked on the back of the property has a collection of items that looks like someone is hoarding discarded stuff but what makes the property very unappealing when you arrive. We did a double take wondering if that was the real place we were staying. |Once we realized that was the bed and breakfast, we entered to find the Moose bedroom. You get to this bedroom through a basement kitchen, which is awkward but fine. Then the first thing you see when you open the door to the room is the toilet sitting on a pedestal since you get to the bedroom from the bathroom. Bizarre. |The room is in a basement and has a half window overlooking the parking lot under the deck so the light is very limited, but the worst part of all is the bathroom. The bathroom is vey outdated, and has carpet where they were hairs and crumbs (??) from probably the last 50 people that stayed in there. It was pretty filthy to the point that we kept socks on all night to even walk to the bathroom at night. That carpet is at least 20 years and has not been vacuumed in weeks. The shower curtain was also pretty scary though the rest of the bathroom was clean but in major need of renovation with the wall paper falling off in parts of the ceiling. |We paid for a weekday in August $262 for the night and that’s where the problem is. The room at $100 to 120 is fine but at that price is completely ridiculous and not worth that money at all when we also stayed at a brand new hotel by Home Depot with a full kitchen for $206 the week before. Keep that in mind for booking. ||Note: Seeing all the comments from the property manager on any review that has any slightly negative comment, I expect an immediate come back here but I’m just helping other make decisions with their money, like I do. This one was a...
Read moreMy wife and I recently stayed in the Nautical room (which is one of three rooms downstairs). The pictures of a nice clean room that are connected to the room listing have to be very old. The carpet is worn and stained, and some furnishings are no longer the same as pictured. The mattress is old and soft and the metal bed frame squeaks whenever you move. The folding bag stand fell apart as the pivot bolts no longer have nuts on them - I put it back together. There is mold in the corner of the tiny shower stall and the ventilation fan does not work. Those with mobility issues be aware - besides the stairs to access the basement the toilet and the shower are on an elevated 1-foot-high step-up platform. There were 4 box fans available standing in the lower hall of which we used one to ventilate and cool our room by placing it in the window for a while. We removed it before going to bed as you couldn't leave the window open for security reasons as it was at ground level. The window lock is broken so a stop stick is in use. There is not an emergency / fire evacuation plan posted. The ceiling is a hanging drop ceiling and the room door is a common light weight residential door - not very fire safe. The Kitchen and breakfast items: The kitchen was reasonably clean but the food items that were mentioned as being provided were questionable or nonexistent. There were excessive items in the fridge not mentioned as being provided and many appeared to be guest leftovers consequently it was not clear what was safe to eat. Hardly anything inside was in individually sealed portions like many other self-serve B & B's that we have stayed at. We elected to only make coffee (which was the sole bright spot as it was a Keurig). Spend a few more dollars and stay at a nice hotel...
Read moreWhen is a suite not a suite? When it’s the Alaskan suite. It’s actually three separate rooms: one smallish bedroom with a double bed, another bedroom with twin beds and a bathroom at the end of a short corridor accessed through a pair of swing saloon doors - which any of the other guests could walk through if they chose to ignore the printed sign stating the bathroom was for use by Alaskan suite guests only.||The bedroom doors had keypad entry, which, if you kept the doors closed you had to unlock each time. Plus you wouldn’t want to leave the doors open at night as anyone could walk in. Also if using the bathroom you could be seen entering it by anyone who happened to be in the breakfast room at the end of the short corridor - so no privacy (especially not if you’re in nightwear or less!)||To call it a suite there should be a lockable door leading to the three rooms and not a pair of swing saloon doors.||The so called ‘self serve’ breakfast was not buffet style to help yourself to (rather than table service) but help yourself to whatever you can find in the fridge and cook it yourself. All we could find was one hard boiled egg, some fresh eggs, two yoghurts, some milk, some small cartons and tins of juice and some bread and bagels. On the side there were some cereals and sachets and a little fruit. Not my idea of a breakfast at a B&B. The rooms were on the dingy side one had a tear in the carpet. We were booked in for 2 nights but left after one. Can...
