Disclaimer: I go to sushi restaurants for the sushi. As such, the rating is heavily based upon service and sushi. I am not one to give bad reviews as I believe any restaurant are prone to mistakes. However, this particular restaurant's service and food has been leaving me dissatisfied consistently. So, I figured everyone looking to try out the Jewel Lake Ronnie's Sushi would appreciate some input from someone who has done dine in and takeout at the place numerous times over the course of about 5 years. First things first, the food: When I go to sushi restaurants, I always order the rainbow roll that is served at every sushi restaurant as a standard. Therefore, I will be comparing this restaurant's rainbow roll to all other sushi restaurant's I have tried over the years. This includes, Peter's sushi, I Luv Sushi, Sushi Ya, Sushi and Sushi, Ichiban Sushi, Jimmy's Sushi, Miso Sushi, Re Haru and Ryuu Bowl. I'm going to be blunt, the rainbow roll served at Ronnie's Sushi is by far the worst I have ever eaten. The ratio between the rice and fish served is extremely disproportionate. When compared to other restaurants, it's a joke. Not to mention, the price is nearly identical to the other restaurants listed. There is way too much rice and too little fish. In comparison to Peter's Sushi for example, the thickness of the fish at Ronnie's Sushi is about 2.5x thinner. Not to mention, the roll size is way too big. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with big rolls, however, when all you're tasting is rice, there is a problem. Sushi rolls should be eaten within 2 bites at most, but the rolls at Ronnie's Sushi must be eaten within 3-5 bites because there is way too much rice. Lastly the service: Every single time I have done dine in or takeout, the restaurant has always either forgotten a piece of the order, or mixed it up entirely. First time I dined in, they mixed up one of my family member's beef fried rice with chicken. When they took our order, I noticed that the waiter was not even writing anything down. Not a big deal right? Well, this is only the start. I proceeded to do takeout maybe a few weeks after the dine in, and they completely forgot the tempura udon that we ordered. I had to drive all the way back to get the food, but they never even made the noodle soup. I was waiting at the restaurant for about 20+ minutes. Eventually, I just left because my patience ran out. We waited an hour for the whole order to be ready, just for me to drive back and have me wait half an hour for them to cook it. Even recently, I dined in with someone, and they forgot our drinks completely. Typically drinks are the first thing waiters serve, but in this restaurant's case, it was served last after a reminder. Food: 2/5 Let's proceed to overall waiter professionalism. It's not that great. I've seen the other reviews bashing on how the waiters are rude, but I'm not going to go that far because that hasn't exactly been my interpretation. Most of the waiters will be aged Korean women who likely do not have the best handle of the English language, so the way they phrase their sentencing and apply their tone can be interpreted as rude by the non-Korean client. Objectively, it's unprofessional, but I wouldn't exactly go as far as to say they're disrespectful. Waiters definitely need to work on properly implementing professionalism into their speech. Professionalism: 3/5 Conclusion: Do not go here for sushi or professionalism with staff.

I am so bummed and sad. I love, Japan cultures food. I decided to dine at Ronnie’s on Jewel Lake Rd. l ordered the Led Zeppelin Roll, the Last Samurai Roll and Hot Sake. Sadly, the fish was so fishy, salty and old, the rice was hard to boot. It was just unpleasant and alarming. I tried to like this dinner with each bite. After the third piece of each Roll, it was just not good to eat and worried me that it may make me sick, sad to say this. When meals are not my taste, I still eat it because it’s fresh and good and don’t want to waste food or money but this was inedible. The waitress was so nice and hardworking. I didn’t want to mention anything or give her a hard time. I still gave have her a 25% tip, it’s not her fault. When she asked me if I would like a to-go box, I had to recline, unfortunately. I thought she might understand that the dinner wasn’t okay, I only had eaten three pieces from each roll, most of the edema was still there too because it was super salty, the most salty I’ve ever had, hard for me to say bad about this Ronnie’s restaurant. I think she knew something wasn’t right, I feel bad. I don’t like to complain or give anyone a hard time, again, she was such a nice woman and hardworking. This was my fourth visit and I only had one decent dine here. I really wanted to like it, so bummed. 🙁 In the photo you see what was left of my meal, I left hungry.😔

Ronnie Sushi has an entire menu dedicated to sushi rolls, so you know the selection is massive. There are sushi rolls here that you've never heard of before. You'll find the traditional rolls, but you'll also find all the amazing combinations like the Metallica Roll! The sushi rolls are gigantic! It's like eating a two level sushi house with all the toppings. Everything tastes fresh, so don't worry about hard rice. Finally what makes Ronnie Sushi feel welcoming are all the pictures of loyal customers on the walls and ceiling. I bet you'll find a picture of your best friend here. I’ve hesitated writing this review, however I have reached my tipping point.

I have been going to Ronnie sushi since 2005. I’ve always stayed loyal, and I always spoke highly about this business. The food and service has always been great but in recent years the service has gone significantly down hill.

I used to be able to go to the sushi bar and get a custom roll from Ronnie himself and now I can’t even get them to accommodate for a food allergy or a dietary need. They refused to make my son who has server food allergies like a plain piece of chicken or salmon so for years he couldn’t enjoy his mom’s favorite restaurant until recently because he grew out of his food allergies.

Since he grew out of his food allergies he has fallen in love with sushi and of course I want to take him to Ronnie’s since it was my favorite place. I’ve been doing keto for a few months now and I am in need of things without sugars and low carbs. I found a sushi roll that would be easy to accommodate (I graduated from culinary school so I know how to make sushi) but they refused to make a roll without rice and the fish just wrapped in seaweed. There was nothing else on the menu that seemed appetizing so I just ended up having miso soup for dinner. Oh and they even forgot to serve my son his salad with his sushi.

As stated before, I’ve been loyal and spoke highly of this place for years! These people don’t seem to care about loyalty or good reviews! I even have one of those customer photos on the ceiling advertising how good this place is. This is very disappointing and as a loyal fan I feel letdown and betrayed that service that used to be exceptional is now down the drain. Needless do they care. Very sad to say that this will be my last time coming here. I’ve given them chance after chance to get better and nothing is...

Sadly, I'm having to edit my review from a year ago ☹

"Delicious!!!! Some of the best roll combos I've ever had! And a really nice atmosphere."

My sister and I were craving sushi and we of course think of Ronnie's first. They were pretty full upon arrival but we can wait for a good roll! There was only one server which is super tuff, I know from personal experience, but she was very short and after we got our food she never once checked on us till we called her over.

The big bumers for us with this dinning experience...

First off, she told us she wasn't bringing soup or salad to my 4 year old because he'd make a mess. Even tho he ordered his own roll. 🤔

Second, my sister ordered the Metallica Roll. She gets it every time because she loves it's uniqueness. This time they left out the pickle and cucumber from the inside, so it was just crab and cream cheese.

The big let down however was my Viagra Roll. It's supposed to have a seafood medley on top. Whatever seafood was put on top had turned. And I mean really nasty strong fishy taste! We each tried a piece but I didn't want to chance did poisoning so we called the server over and told her we didn't want it.

The only thing that made this a 2 star review was that she didn't charge us for the icky Viagra Roll.

Maybe next time we will give Ronnie's 2 a shot but we'll have to say goodbye to Ronnie's. The quality and customer service have sadly gone...
