Edit: Great experience turned into one of the worst and a real learning experience for other large investments. Weeks after investing in a temperpedic Queen, we came to the conclusion that it just was not big enough for us. I had raised these concerns when buying the more expensive queen over the cheaper king I-series, but Chris assured me that the show room made the beds look smaller and the queen would be plenty of space. I was told not to worry about it because if I wasn't satisfied I could merely pay a restocking fee and switch beds using the 120 day sleep guarantee. What Chris forgot to mention was that the $1,200 dollar base was not included in this even with a purchase of a $300 dollar 10 year warranty. So that's $1,500 plus the restocking fee of $250, so now we are $1,700 down the drain. When we returned to make the exchange, suddenly his tone changed and he told us we should not have downgraded from king to queen because we were losing 16 in of space. He then tried to talk us out of taking advantage of the free base promotion our new mattress had, but gave no explanation as to why it would not be suitable. Just go a head and shell out $800 dollar more for a more quality base. When pressed on why the base was not suitable, he refused to answer, instead repeating "thats a lot of mattress for that base". On my third try I point blank asked "are you saying it will break the base- yes or no?" And he tried to answer with a car related metaphor. Unfortunately this second interaction made it clear that the only thing he was concerned about was his commission, and not our needs. The delivery guys were confused that they were not taking back our old base, as they usually do when the customer has purchased a warranty so we feel we have been taken advantage of in a big way. Side note, however, both times the delivery guys were great- professional and courteous.

Read moreOn a whim my girlfriend and I went into the South Mall Mattress Firm store. We were unsure if we were going to get a new mattress that day but knew we were in the market for one. A lady from the back of the store named Shamecca, greeted us and. Shamecca is an awesome person to get to know. It's amazing how you can get to know someone when shopping for a mattress. She was polite, knowledgeable, understanding and can read a situation well. Her ability to answer a question and not leave you hanging when it comes to the complexities of new age mattresses was wonderful. And believe me mattresses have gotten complicated. Believe it or not we spent close to 4 hours chatting and learning and laying on almost all the mattresses. She was right there with us the whole way. Never once did she seem annoyed or impatient. By the time we were done we had a new bed with adjustable frame, sheets, pillows and mattress protector all set up with delivery and financing.
