This place was FANTASTIC! I've never traveled to Iowa (at least not on purpose) and we were coming to take a ride on the Rail Explorer. This sweet place was close enough and had such great reviews, I didn't even feel like I was taking a chance. Being an old frat house, it's obviously on campus. There were some parties going on in the neighborhood, but we couldn't hear a thing in our room! The rooms are all so quaint and cozy - fridge and microwave in each one! - quilts on the beds, jetted tubs (even bath salts!) and lovely, old windows giving glorious natural light and adding to the charm of the room. Okay, I know this might sound dumb, but the toilet paper is REAL. If you know, you know. Breakfast in the morning is homemade (I think it's different every day) but they were also accommodating to guests who didn't necessarily want what was being served. There were plenty of "continental" options as well. And all day, there are snacks and drinks available in the dining room (the homemade carrot, banana bread was delicious!). The living room was very spacious and a lovely place to just sit and read a book, or visit with others. There are also patio tables and chairs for when it is nice outside. There is a quaint eatery in very easy walking distance, with great coffee options, and they're open til 9pm! This bed and breakfast was so nice, I'm looking for a reason to come back! Thanks so much, staff of Iowa House! We felt very at home, in...

Iowa House provided a charming and comfortable setting for our overnight getaway. Although it felt a little strange checking in with no staff present, when we had a question with the heating unit, our text was answered immediately, and all was fine. The house has undeniable character, much better than cold, contemporary hotels. The gathering room with fireplace was well appointed and inviting. The bedding was downy soft; we slept well. The room was so quiet, we were unaware there were other guests staying there. My husband and I agreed that the made-to-order breakfast added a $30 value to our stay. (Thank you, Kendra!) We definitely plan to stay here on our next...

Was welcomed the minute I arrived, briefed like the president, then allowing questions or concerns. Got to room 201 and relaxed. Beautiful decor antiques and fused with modern bliss. CLEAN. Refrigerator/ freezer perfectly chilled ready for my beverages and steaks to grill outback. Aircleaner in room. Went to Bob Dylan. Came back to a jetted hot tub and music. Bath salts and fine soaps and shamp/cond. New soft towels. Serta bed. Breakfast with Wallstreet and local paper. Top of the line personal chef. Includes everything. Walking outdoors meet Chuckles the frat squirrel ready to play and looking Cadallac. Listen closely and you may hear...

There simply isn't a better place to stay in Ames. Cool, chill vibe. Easy in/out. Plenty of parking, and about 4 blocks from Main Campus. Great history with the building. I was blown away by the breakfast. Initially thought it was a standard Continental, until the staff member asked if I wanted avocado toast. Holy cow, did they undersell what I was brought. It was DELICIOUS. I'm sold. I'll always stay here when I need to return to Ames.

We stayed at the Iowa House for an extended weekend recently to visit our daughter at ISU. From start to finish, we were amazed at how well the property and rooms were kept and the service was 10/10! There was always hot coffee, tea, and snacks available in the dining room and plenty of people to chat with in the living room. We will definitely be back when we visit our daughter next time!
