Took the lead of a previous reviewer and had Beirut sandwich and Spanish burger, both carry out. The chicken Beirut is on Pita bread & sliced in half. No sides. The burger had fries, but was rather thin & couldn’t be cooked to temp.
My wife and I split both. BTW the fluffy Brazilian fries were excellent. The seasoning & spices on both sandwiches were also amazing. The problem w both sandwiches are price and quantity. The burger was $16.95 & Beirut was $15.95. We were still hungry after eating them. I know, EVERYTHING is pricey nowadays.
Had a beer at bar while waiting. Very attentive bartender & courteous. The place is very old & seats about 50-60 folks. It could use a makeover in every way, from floors to walls to seating. Dive ambience I guess. The downstairs bathroom access was via several adventurous steps, but did have a bannister. The men’s door had a sign that said KNOCK FIRST. Don’t remember if it had a lock or not. Neither the door or room was in the greatest of shape either.
Don’t know how a disabled person could get down there. Place must have been grandfathered in.
Probably won’t be back, but I am sure students flock to this place, located in the middle of Campus Town. Don’t know how they can...
Read moreI rarely make it out over to campus town, but when I do I love to stop by local restaurants, and I had brought my husband who is from Greece. He was amazed at the size of the burgers and the almost Epcot like vibe of this establishment. Flags from all over the world and currency decorated on the walls. It feels like you’re in a melting pot and that provides a safe environment feel. Like everyone’s welcome. Our server was Marcie, she was beautiful and bubbly and talked us through suggestions. She was well dressed and I even stopped her to ask what perfume she was wearing, my husband and I watched as made her rounds to her tables, never switching that good old Iowa charm (as my husbands call it). Our food arrived, warm as if it just left straight from grill to us. I want to say it was only about a 15 minute wait. Those Brazilian fries are addicting, paired specially well with the mayo. Something I’ve never really thought of pairing together goes really well together. We will be making it back...
Read moreFirst of all really nice young man as a server, very attentive, great job (I am a restaurant owner so see a lot of servers). We were in town for Iowa State event and googled local restaurants, saw Brazilian Food and had to go - have spent quite a bit of time in Brazil and was excited that Ames had this!).
The food was fine - highlight is the Brazil fries they are definitely special. My reason for 4-stars is the rest of the food. It’s not bad at all for sure - but its burgers and sandwiches which are middle of the road (I had burger wife had sandwich) - why call this a Brazilian place? Yes there are burgers is Sao Paulo, but there are also 7-elevens in Japan and we don’t call those Japanese? Trying to be a little funny not harsh and again as an owner I know how hard the restaurant business is so this is legit 4-stars and they clearly train staff pretty well and seem to care about the food quality, and definitely fair priced. Just...
