Read moreWe had our puppy with us and therefore had to stay in a room designated for dogs. Although the room was clean the carpets had countless stains probably from previous dogs. Marie greeted us when we arrived and prepared a lovely breakfast including eggs from the chickens which roam the property. She was very sweet to give me cookies and jam as it was my birthday. Because we were the only ones staying there, she sat and conversed with us during breakfast which was lovely. We learned about the history of the Inn and the renovations her son made to the property. It was one of the more expensive inns we stayed in during our 16 day trip because of the $50 dog fee that I felt was much higher than any other Inn we stayed at. It is a college town but most students had left for summer break so it was easy to find a spot to grab dinner. I think when school is in session, it might be a different story. Off street parking, beds were comfortable, hot water was plentiful, some...
Read moreThis is a beautiful spot. My fiancé and I just got engaged this weekend and spent the second night of our two day road trip from Boston to Portsmouth, NH to Amherst at The Black Walnut and we stayed in The Black Walnut Suite. We didn’t spend much time in the room but the time we did spend was inviting and warm and comfortable; like an adorable little apartment. It was a great jump off point for hiking trails, downtown for food and a concert, scenic byways, The Bridge of Flowers in Shelburne Falls and all the other rambling around we did. Check in was easy and low key; just walk into porch and find a little bag with your name on it with room key, things to do and some chocolates. Fresh, delicious breakfast was included, which we didn't realize they had when we booked it, but was a very nice surprise. We tend not to go back to places to just keep finding new ones but if we did go back to Amherst we would...
