We recently traveled 9 days/8 nights across the southeast and stayed at 8 different hotels: 5 Holiday Inn Expresses & 3 Holiday Inns. I will submit a review for each hotel and rate them based on the usual factors plus in comparison with others of the same IHG brand:|5th night-Holiday Inn Asheville, NC||I will start with the most disappointing breakfast on this 8 night adventure. I receive breakfast as my IHG Diamond amenity choices, but this one was $14.95, otherwise. My coupon said off the menu or buffet, but there was no menu, and the buffet was very minimal! There were scrambled eggs, diced potatoes, sausage links, bacon, and a few pancakes on the hot buffet-nothing else. They did have sugar free syrup. There were just a few juice choices, but no vegetable ones like tomato or V8 so I didn't have a juice with high sugar even though it's natural and hopefully no more is added. The quality of the minimal choices on the hot buffet were good. There were a few prepackaged pastries such as grocery store bought muffins and a few wrapped bread choices (white, wheat, etc.). All in all, HIE has more choices, even the ones with minimal offerings? It was not worth half of the $14.95 price and was the worst breakfast of any IHG property on this 8 night adventure.|We were upgraded to King Suite #310. I had booked a standard King Suite so the upgrade was merely a "mountain view" upgrade. This hotel was very lucky to be near the top of the hill so it probably suffered minimal damage from the floods last fall. Many properties nearer the road and the creeks suffered substantial damage! Some were still closed. The room had a tub w/ shower for a good foot soaking bath, and a small sink plus the toilet; all was clean. The room had a king bed, bedside tables w/ outlets, USB ports, a sofa bed, a chair w/ ottoman, and tv w/ drawers and a ledge for luggage below. An iron was in the closet, but I don't remember a safe. Room was mostly good with minimal issues except the bed was firm, but the pillows were too soft-need a couple of firm ones like at most locations. We got a decent night's sleep but woke up with flat pillows each time! |In conclusion, for the price of just over $90 (net) and just over $100 (including taxes) and no fee for other amenities such as parking, it was an acceptable stay. Breakfast, which is my favorite meal, was the biggest issue! I would stay here again and recommend the East Village Grille nearby with great food and no credit card...

Read moreWe returned to Asheville on our quarterly trip to visit relatives and again stayed at the Holiday Inn East. Having just emerged from the pandemic, ALL the staff there continued to make our stay feel extremely safe and comfortable with stickers on the room doors indicating that the room had been thoroughly cleaned since the last occupant had left. The housekeepers also had stickers placed everywhere indicating that the surfaces had been cleaned with disinfectant. From the moment we drove up the driveway and saw the beautiful landscape, we knew that the manager took extremely good care of his facility and created an atmosphere as though we were staying in someone's home, rather than an institutional hotel. Every front desk clerk was very personable and each was anxious to assist us with information about what to do in Asheville, especially the upcoming events. The Sales manager even had a rotating calendar of events taking place at the hotel as well as throughout the city. I have to mention that the food in the restaurant was absolutely delicious and served by exceptionally friendly waiters and waitresses-why go out to a restaurant in Asheville when you can get the best there is right there in the hotel? The nighttime cook and the daytime cook have been well trained by their supervisor as everything was delicious. I met the maintenance man in the hallway who stopped to ask if everything was OK in my room, which was most appreciated and I observed one of them cleaning out the swimming pool at 6AM! All in all, the staff at this hotel should be congratulated for there attention to detail and the esptit 'd corp created by their attitude. The exterior landscaping was incredible and they even had an area in the backwoods attached to the hotel parking lot where we could take a leisurely walk through a forest with several winding trails for both humans and pets. What a lovely place altogether and we shall return here every time we are in Asheville There were many plaques in a display case in the lobby indicating that this was an award winning hotel and we can definitely see why it had been selected so often...
