This is a stunning hidden gem. What an excellent restaurant! My wife and I visited from Atlanta and dined here two nights during our stay over the 4th of July weekend, 2020. Jeff, the bartender, took outstanding care of us. He makes THE best chocolate martinis I've had in 20 years of connoisseurship of that delectable cocktail. As I told him, "Yours are THE best in North America!" The service is attentive but not intrusive. Our needs during our dinners on Friday and Sunday nights were met -- indeed, anticipated -- in every way. The fare itself is created with great skill and care -- and all special requests (of which my wife and I have more than a few) were met cheerfully and with 100% accuracy. We enjoyed grilled pork chop, grilled salmon, hamburger, and baby-back ribs as our entrees, and these were prepared to perfection. My wife is notoriously picky about how her pork is cooked -- most restaurants overcook it and dry it out, despite her insistence on ordering it "medium" -- but Woodfire's excellent chef nailed it perfectly. I was so delighted to see her enjoying this elusive favorite! The sides were prepared with care and excellence, and presented elegantly. The salad was no mere going-through-the-motions as it can so often be; instead, it was cut, arranged, and presented with a care that bespeaks fine dining. And the desserts were over the moon in their high-quality, hand-crafted exquisiteness. Of the many things we enjoy in Asheville that we miss in Atlanta, Woodfire Grill has now rocketed to the top of that list. I wish only that Google provided me with SIX stars, for that is the rating our experience at Woodfire Grill, under the watchful attention of bartender Jeff and of the chefs who prepared this wonderful...
Read moreMy wife and I went here for restaurant week last night. And I have to say that I was wholly unimpressed. Considering we could've gone to Ruth Chris for about the same price, and the steak quality of these places, well, it would be an insult to Ruth's Chris to even mention them in the same sentence. While my steak was cooked perfectly, the steak itself tasted like a low quality grocery store steak. Not even close to the quality I would expect for a $30 steak. Especially considering during restaurant week these are supposed to be reduced prices, so I assumed this would be closer to a 40-45 dollar steak. One of the other reasons who chose this restaurant was because of the desert. Well, they were out of the desert and offered a piece of pie in place of it. Unfortunately I don't really like pie so I didn't end up getting a desert. Someone called this the best steak they've had in years, and to that, I would suggest you need to get out more. This place does NOT serve a high quality steak. I would say, this is exactly what you should expect for a restaurant out in the middle of nowhere attached to a holiday inn. Lesson learned, we will definitely not be going back to this place ever again, and Asheville is loaded with places that are so incredibly good, so I would highly recommend against visiting this place...
Read moreLet me start off by saying that I picked this place for our Valentine dinner because we have had outstanding meals there several times over the past two years. This year was a disappointment. First off, I made reservations several days ago and got an email confirmation, but when we arrived, we had no reservation on the books. Fortunately they seated us. We ordered drinks and they were out of sweet tea. A cardinal sin for a restaurant in the south. We placed our food orders and after our salads were served, my wife was informed that they were out of the chicken she ordered. She changed her entre. When our meals arrived, she settled for soup and a salad, and I got a half rack of ribs. The ribs were tough, as I'm used to fall off the bone ribs. Needless to say, the meal was a disappointment. Our server did apologize for the meal and did give us a discount on the total meal. Service was good, but I'm not sure if I will give it another chance anytime soon. Just one more note, the Valentine special entries all included some type of seafood. Not everyone likes seafood, so we had to order off the regular dinner menu. Just another...
