I did a three night stay at this hotel while visiting family in the area, and I'll never go back again. There were major maintenance and cleaning issues, but more importantly the owners are totally unethical.||I got in late, and when I went to the bathroom the first morning I noticed that the toilet was shifting around and sitting at an angle. Looking further, it turns out the toilet was unattached to the floor, and every time you flushed, water came surging out onto the floor. Apparently the toilet had been replaced at one point by a total amateur, probably a homemade job. They used a gentle smear of caulk, and didn't use a wax seal at all, and then they put in bolts that were much smaller than the holes they went into. Those bolts had then rusted through, so there was absolutely nothing holding the toilet in place.||Then I went to take a shower, and was greeted by a large clump of long dark hair (mine is shorter and unfortunately, gray) and an empty hotel shampoo bottle.||After I got dressed, I went downstairs to inform the front desk attendant (who was working double shifts my entire stay) about the problem. He acted very surprised, and made a big show of coming upstairs to check out the situation, accompanied by the laundry guy (who also mops floors). He then moved me to another room down the hall, and made it known that since it was a holiday weekend, they'd call a plumber on Monday. ||As we went through this charade (and it did turn out to be a charade), I saw that they were working on repairing the bed next door- the laundry guy volunteered that the bed slats had broken overnight. Like I said, I was moved to a room down the hall- on each of the following two mornings, as I passed by my old room I saw the housekeeper in there changing the sheets- it was very obvious that even though they should have blocked off the room while waiting for repairs, they just kept renting it out anyways. As I was getting ready to write this, I noted a review from August 2023 (see kerf_99) talking about the very same unattached toilet- so apparently this bathroom floor has been flooding for a VERY long time! I don't even want to think about the ceiling in the room below this one...||MUCH MORE IMPORTANTLY, AS I WAS RETURNING TO THE PROPERTY THE LAST EVENING OF MY STAY, I WATCHED THE FRONT DESK GUY TELL A BLACK FAMILY THAT THE HOTEL WAS SOLD OUT FOR THE NIGHT AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO FIND SOMEPLACE ELSE. HAVING BEEN THERE COUPLE OF DAYS, THIS SEEMED REALLY UNLIKELY; SO WHEN I GOT BACK TO MY ROOM I CHECKED THE HOTEL WEBSITE- THEY WERE ONLY AT HALF OCCUPANCY.||THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT ONLY SHADY, THEY'RE ALSO RACIST!!!!! THERE ARE MUCH BETTER HOTELS DOWN...

We stayed here twice—the first visit was possibly a 3/5. Our first visit we arrived to a dirty bed cover and the gentleman at the desk was nice but after the second visit we realized cleanliness was not a priority. Our second visit we went to our room- —it smelled like it was wet-they handed us mildew spray for the carpet….. —the 1st comforter on the bed had many blood stains (looked like it may have been bleached) but who could tell if it was clean. There was lipstick on the sheets. We were assured the room was clean…??? Really-his idea of clean and most other peoples is total opposite. —it took 4 trips to the desk to get brand new sheets and comforter in order to get a clean set. I have no idea why it took 4 tries. They did offer to send us to another hotel but after back surgery I couldn’t drive any further and our stuff was already in the room. ALSO-the place they wanted to send us had far worse reviews. —I had to make my own bed and wasted almost two hours after a long day of traveling trying to get a clean bed…. —The manager was helpful but why it had to take four tries to get clean bedding is beyond me. As we checked out there was another woman complaining at the desk. I think this is how this hotel does business. —He made a comment to us “since we don’t like each other” when we were trying to talk to him about the crazy price we were paying for a disgusting room. He didn’t like us bringing to light the room being dirty and us having to make our own bed. $140 was not acceptable for that room and we settled on half. We will NEVER go back there again. We go back and forth to NC and I can’t imagine anyone likes this place. The area is a bit sketchy as well. Go somewhere else. This place has less...

A minus 20 for rude and bad attitudes. It seemed like a nice hotel at first. The room was clean and the furniture looked new or recently cleaned. If I hadn't been put in the back facing Interstate 95 it might have been more pleasant.

The first night and two nights after it was very noisy above my room, too much I-95 traffic noise out back which is too close to the building made it impossible to sleep, and ignorant guests slamming doors constantly like it was a contest. Very old and outdated building should have seen a wrecking ball years ago. Breakfast was pitiful.

Manager had a bad attitude when I mentioned noise problem upstairs that lasted the entire time I was there. It sounded like somebody was hammering off and on during the day and night. Manager said if I hear it again to let him know. It happened several times then I went to report it so he could hear it for himself. He was nowhere to be found after waiting for him to return.

When trying to checkout, manager gave me an odd look then left from behind the counter. I waited for him to return because there was nobody around to check me out so I left without my receipt. This manager was very unprofessional and had a bad attitude toward me for no reason.

Very disappointed with the immaturity I had to deal with from a so-called professional. I'll never go back. I upgraded my review to two stars for the furniture. The rest of the hotel is a dump not worth bothering with.

When I wanted to print out a few pages of my next route, the irritated manager was not at all helpful and told me the printer was broken. The previous hotel told me the same thing which had me wondering why they even have these printers or they just don't want...

I do not recommend Quality Inn and Suites Ashland. My family (two adults and two kids) stayed at this hotel for one night on our way south. We were supposed to stay there on the way back a a week later but elected to cancel our booking and stay at the far superior Radisson Inn and Suites instead. Pros: +Beds were very comfortable +AC was appreciated during the hot weather +Complimentary breakfast was simple but well rounded (coffee, cereal, waffles, fruit, yogourt, etc) Cons: -Room smelled of humidity and dampness, maybe as a result of the AC but it was pretty strong -Housekeeping seems to have been kept to a minimum - there was wet paper stuck to the shower wall, blue stains on the bathroom counter which we wiped away ourselves, and handprints clearly visible on the bed headboad. -Water faucet leaked all over the counter when you turned it on -Black mold on the walls. -Reception was unable to supply us with an extra set of towels or facecloths. I would, however, like to highlight the hard working receptionist who was there when we checked in at 3pm and was still there the next morning loading up the breakfast by himself at 6:30 the next morning.

I think it's pretty good. Yes, there was Highway noise, but then again the place really *is*just off the highway. But if you put the in -room Radiator on, and/ or bring a personal fan, it provides enough white noise to sleep at night. The hotel looks clean, updated; and it was very quiet. I also felt very safe here, which is good since I was traveling with my cat. The bathroom facilities are modern and sanitary. The complimentary breakfast is about what I expected - not very good if you have special dietary requirements, but with enough variety so that just about anybody else could find something to eat. They accepted my extremely late check-in without any problem. There's plenty of parking around, and also plenty of restaurants. The pet fee looks to be between 15 and $20 per animal, which isn't bad. When I have visited Helping Hands in Richmond previously, I've always stayed at the Comfort Inn on Broad Street, but now that is gone. This might be a good replacement.
