Perfect Stay Near Kings Dominion – Exceptional Service & Comfort!
I chose the Hampton Inn Richmond-North/Ashland because it’s the top-rated hotel in Ashland, and now I understand why. I was visiting Kings Dominion (just a quick 10-minute drive away), and this hotel turned out to be the perfect home base for my trip.
One of the first things I noticed is the convenience and thoughtfulness built into the guest experience. The hotel offers free parking, and as a Hilton Diamond member, I loved having my own reserved spot right up front—such a nice perk. The location is also excellent, with plenty of restaurants within walking distance, so you don’t even need to get back in the car after a long day.
From the start, the team here showed how much pride they take in their hotel. I called ahead to make sure my room preferences would be honored, and they gladly accommodated my request. I checked in easily via the Hilton app, selected a digital key, and walked straight to my room without ever stopping at the front desk. Shortly after, I received a message checking in on my stay, and when I asked for a few extra items, they were delivered quickly and with a smile. That kind of follow-up is rare and shows how much they care about their guests.
The room itself was spotless and very comfortable. Housekeeping was fantastic, keeping everything fresh and welcoming each day. The room came with all the essentials—a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker—which made it easy to relax and recharge. The bed was cozy with feather pillows, and I slept very well during my stay.
That said, there are a couple of areas that could be improved: • The TVs are older and don’t have streaming services, which was a little disappointing in 2025 when many hotels already offer this feature. Not a dealbreaker, but something I’d love to see updated. • The lighting in the room uses bright white LED bulbs, which gave the space a bit of a harsh look. Warmer lighting would make the room feel much more inviting and relaxing.
Beyond the room, the hotel has nice amenities. The outdoor pool (seasonal) was crystal clear and very inviting. I also used the fitness room, which included free weights, a Peloton bike, and a treadmill. While it was perfectly functional, it could use a refresh to match the quality of the rest of the property.
Though I didn’t eat breakfast, I checked out the options, and it was a full complimentary continental breakfast with everything from make-your-own waffles and fresh fruit to baked items and hot dishes—plenty to start the day off right. Another thoughtful touch was the fresh-baked cookies and lemonade offered in the late afternoons and evenings, which felt warm and welcoming.
Overall, this hotel exceeded my expectations in every way. It’s clear that the staff take genuine pride in their work and go out of their way to make guests feel comfortable and cared for. Combined with the ideal location near Kings Dominion, great perks like Diamond parking and digital key check-in, and the overall comfort of the rooms, this hotel is a true gem in Ashland.
I look forward to staying here again on my next Kings Dominion trip in 2026, and I would recommend it without hesitation to anyone visiting the park or the...

Read moreI stayed at this location for 2 nights as it was recommended by the bride and groom for a wedding I was attending. I was happy to hear they chose a Hilton brand as I am a Hilton Honors member. At check-in, the staff was helpful. The room was clean and the sofa was comfortable. The bed was hard and very uncomfortable and the pillows were too soft so sleep was not restful. However, I am writing about an experience with an item left behind. After checkout as we were on our way home, I realized that I had left an item in the room. I called the hotel, and they indicated they had found it. They offered to ship it to me for a $25 flat rate. I asked if that included shipping, and they indicated that it did not and I would have to pay FedEx separately. I asked how much that would be, and the front desk was not able to tell me. I think this policy is ridiculous. Either charge a flat fee or charge for shipping, but both fees should not be charged. After thinking it over for a few days, I called back to speak to someone about shipping my item. I was told that the fee to ship was $20 instead of $25. Still, no one could give me an estimate of what the FedEx shipping would cost or tell me how to find out. I expressed that the speed of the shipment was not an issue for me and that the cheapest method would be okay with me because I did not need the item immediately. However, I was concerned that I received conflicting information and was told that someone would call me back to clear things up. No one ever called me. After a few days, I called back and was told that the item would be shipped to me if I paid $25 (not the $20 that I was told) and was told someone would call me with a shipping number. I was told that the item would be shipped without me having to pay shipping due to conflicting information. I waited the next day and no one called me with a shipping number. I called back and received the shipping number and I thought all was resolved when I received my item on the next day. To my surprise, when I checked my mailbox, I received an invoice in the mail from FedEx for $50.59 with account number None, despite what the hotel told me. The item was not sent via FedEx Ground, which would have been the cheapest. This location has promised to call me several times and did not follow through. On my last phone call to let them know that I was billed for the shipment even though I was told I would not be, the associate told me someone would call me back. I let him know I had been told someone would call me back on several occasions, and each time no one did, and then the associate told me "I'm sorry you left your item and we had to ship it to you", which came off a bit...
