I came to BW airport inn Austin for 1 night business trip. Courtesy van was a plus and efficient. Checked in early and front desk clerk was very sweet and accomodating to us. After this things went down hill. We were exhausted since we awakened at 130 am to catch our flight to Austin and looked forward to getting some sleep for a late day meeting. Approximately 90 min after we were asleep a very violent fight broke out just outside our third floor room. There were explicative, racial name calling and threats I do not care to mention. As the tension escalated my wife called the front desk for security because they were now obviously hitting and throwing punches. After some time one of them ran off down the hallway and the maintainence or custodian person arrived on the elevator just outside my door. When I opened my door I saw a male bleeding from the head with blood all over the wall while he was slumped against the wall in a drunken stupor. The smell of alcohol was overwhelming as soon as I opened my door. The "security" person helped the man up and the man disappeared into the elevator yelling while the blood was being cleaned up. I learned later this person has had other altercations and been warned but has been a guest there for several weeks. Later in the day I saw two females come off the elevator with a large quantity of beer and other alcoholic beverages. They headed down toward the end of the hallway and sure enough, during the middle of the same night an incident broke out in front of their room with pounding and yelling outside their door. My colleague was across the hall from that room and he was awakened. Sounded like another altercation.
I honestly don't think the management does an effective job of evicting and that they tolerate these events. Sadly it negatively affects guests such as myself who deserve a quiet and safe environment. Seems like a party hotel. I certainly would not have felt safe having a child there. The breakfast consisted of eggs, bacon, sausage, lots of hot drink options. They also had the standard waffle maker, fruit, bread, juice, etc. The meat was cold, there was not decaf coffee available in the machine, and not surprisingly no gluten free options (but I typically expect the latter so no biggie). The bed was comfortable and room clean. Decor seemed dated but it was kept up. I would not recommend staying here unless you want to party and be loud without getting evicted. The three staff members I interacted with were nice however. The workout room had a treadmill, stair stepper, and bicycle along with standard weight machine. The bicycle was missing a peddle but the other stuff worked. Can't recommend. There are better choices for...
Read moreI checked in at 3:30 with an individual that came out of a room marked “office” she was talking to someone on the cellphone and told them to hold on. She asked me for my name and found my reservation. She then tells me there’s a $25 refundable deposit so I paid. She makes me sign the confirmation receipt and gives me my room keys. We walk into room it’s a queen suite didn’t think anything of it being that normally my rooms are always upgraded. We were in the room for about 2 hours before we changed to head to dinner and take a stroll around Austin. We ended up getting back to hotel around 11:30. We had both our key cards and attempted both to open room however it did not work. We tried each one over 5 times and nothing. My husband went to the front office and after like 3 minutes ends up calling me to head over there. I go and the gentleman in the front said I had to wait for his supervisor because they had put some restriction on my room to not allow us back in. We were very confused, finally the supervisor shows up and starts questioning what time I checked in and if I remembered with who. He then proceeds to inform me that the room I was in was not checked out to everyone and that I shouldn’t be that room. I was even more confused because I checked in and had keys given to me by one of the employees there so not sure what he expected me to say. He then just stands there staring at the screen for awhile and finally says well I guess I’ll just let you stay in that room now like if he was doing me a favor. Once again it was close to midnight and this man walked into our room and was looking around then locked us out of the room. I don’t understand why he didn’t speak to his employee about the situation instead of taking it out on the customer. I obviously signed the receipt confirmation AND paid the deposit. It’s not my fault that the employee put us in the room, i never asked to be placed there. Maybe their employees need to be retrained but don’t take it out on the customer who is just trying to get some rest.
Also pool is tiny! Food options for breakfast aren’t that great! Definitely seen better, the tru by Hilton down the street...
Read moreI’m giving this hotel a review of two stars based primarily on my interaction with housekeeping & breakfast staff and the graffiti on the wall in the hallway outside my room.
The room was in overall good repair, the mattress was firm (which I liked) and linens comfortable. The shower had plenty of hot water and was very relaxing.
Furniture in the room had some scuffs along the bottom from being hit with a vacuum and the paint could used a touch up here and there, but overall it was an OK room.
I stayed two nights, and when housekeeping knocked on my door around 10am after the first night, I was in the middle of changing my insulin pump. I looked through the peephole and asked if I could have five more minutes to finish changing my pump, and the cleaning staffer rolled her eyes and mouthed something that looked profane…at this point I just said “nevermind, I don’t need cleaning service today” and she pushed her cart off to do the next room.
Now I realize that she probably didn’t know I was looking through the peephole when talking to her, but come on — you’re in public and should have common sense to not respond rudely to someone just because they’re not standing right in front of you.
Secondly, at breakfast they had a young man running around stocking the small fridge and other food items on the counter. He was sniffling and wiping his nose with his bare hands and continuing to go into the kitchen and bring out stuff to put on the food line. This would be gross at anytime but especially right now considering COVID.
My other major issue with the hotel was the graffiti on the wall outside my room. I’ll upload a photo of it to go with my review — at the very least management could have hung a picture over it or something. I got the feeling that perhaps they’ve been cutting corners though.
Overall the room was comfortable and front desk staff were friendly. I would choose not to stay at this Best Western again based on my interaction with the cleaning and breakfast staff and the graffiti on the...
