I've always been a firm believer of "You get what you pay for." This stay was no different. Every year my family travels to Austin for the Texas Relays. This year life got in the way and I dropped the ball when it came to booking a room. With it being the week before the Relays, we ended up here at the Super 8. I wasn't expecting anything glamorous considering how much the price was but I was hoping for something fairly decent. Checking in went fairly easy, but when we were on our way up to our room the woman who checked us in had to grab us from the elevator because they put us in a room where there were already guests. Can you imagine if we would have just walked in on people? That in itself should have been a red flag, but we had limited options so we just kept chugging along. That night was by far the worst. There were roaches in the bathroom, mold on the bathroom ceiling and the beds were horrible. To make matters worse my daughter and I got bit throughout the night. Since I couldn't find out what bit me, I tried to leave it alone even though I broke out in hives. The next day we spent time at the relays, when we come back our room key doesn't work. I'm beyond frustrated and started looking for alternative places to stay while the kids got ready for bed. When we get into bed, lo and behold.. BED BUGS! Beyond disgusted! We go downstairs and I inform the woman at the desk that there are bed bugs and she just gives me a bored look. While I was searching, there were no other hotels with vacancy so we were stuck here. We asked for another room. No apologies, no anything from the people at the desk, even when I showed them the bed bugs. Since I used the booking app to find this room, I contacted them regarding this issue. They were super apologetic and promised to contact the hotel on our behalf to try and resolve the issue. We changed rooms. The remote doesnt work for the TV. More roaches in this room. I'm so ready to check out. We finally all lay down for the night. Next thing we know, people with a key walk into our room because guess what, they gave someone our room! They called up to our room moments later questioning us as if we were not supposed to be there. This concerns me because we are traveling with our family. They claimed that this was a computer glitch, but at this point we had been here two nights and the same thing has happened twice. They have no concern for the safety of their guests. Still can't find another hotel to check into. Booking customer service says they are trying to resolve the issue. When we check out they claim that they will discount our stay, but I haven't seen reflection of that yet. I am just extremely disappointed. Roaches are gross, bed bugs are serious yet they showed no concern when I addressed these issues. I didn't want to cause a scene so I have been dealing with booking.com, but when we checked out they had other guests complaining of the same issues we had and they weren't being as understanding. And, I don't blame them. This lack of cleanliness and professionalism basically ruined our trip to Austin. We will NEVER stay at this location or another Super 8 ever again. Im hoping they stick to their word of reimbursing our stay. This was absolutely the worst hotel we've...
Read moreMy fiance and I stayed here from Thursday, September 1, 2016 to Tuesday, September 6. (We are here as I write this.). We are in a nonsmoking room.
First off, it's good if you're on a budget and like firm beds. However, it is a little shady, and there is a distinct smell to the rooms and mini fridge.
Note that Austin's traffic is different and heavy on most days. If you are traveling somewhere not close to the North side of Austin, you may want to go a different hotel. It can easily take 20 minutes to go 5 miles.
Pros:
The good would have to be the price. (We paid $52 a night plus 15% tax.) Also, there are towels and the service has been good. There is a hair dryer, an iron, and you get some body soap. There's a flatscreen tv, probably around 30" or 32". The lighting is fine. Yhere is a microwave an laundry on every floor. Check the dryers first, as they sometimes have black sticky stuff that will stain everything.
There are plenty of electrical sockets, a big bonus for me.
LED lighting, if you like that. But not in the bathroom.
There's a coffee machine and some coffee in the room.
There are beautiful pictures above the beds. (I wonder if these are covering up more holes as listed in the cons).
The continental breakfast consists of orange juice, apple juice, coffee, raisin bran, gluten free cherrios, milk, texas-shaped waffles, syrup, and microwavable cinnamon things.
Cons:
There is a smell in the rooms.
WiFi is off and on. It's good enough for Netflix.
The bed had a couple of hairs on the inner blanket (We checked for bedbugs as soon as we arrived). Perhaps from the house cleaner? Also, the towels had hair.
The wall near the bathroom and beside the bed is super dirty. Also, there was a random hole in the wall that was taped over with masking tape.
The dresser and nightstand have all sorts of scribbling in them, and need to be painted over, badly.
There are dead lights in the bathroom.
The fitness center is an absolute joke. If that doesn't matter to you, then good. There are three machines in a tiny, humid room, which obviously isn't meant to be a fitness room. Of the three machines, there is a bike (out of order), a stair machine (at least 15 years old; it is manual and does not use electricity), and a treadmill (as old as the stair machine, and also broken).
The pool and hot tub. No complaints about the ladder, but the pool was a little dirty. I'm giving the benefit of the doubt and thinking it was just a bad time. They do, you should note, charge you "at the manager's discretion" if you don't completely dry off outside. And, make sure you grab a flimsy pool towel (It is actually like a hand towel).
Do not expect conditioner. They don't provide it in the bathroom, unless it's just the room we happened to get. The curtains don't close all of the way, if you want to be super petty.
Thoughts:
All in all, you get what you pay for. If you are on a budget, like we are, it's alright. If you aren't, don't stay here. I know several people who would cringe at this place and others who would rate if 5 stars.
If you want to stay at a colloseum, do not stay here and expect...
Read moreI booked a room with this establishment on Friday Oct 6, 2017 for two nights. I checked in fairly late and was extremely exhausted from the drive to get there. When I arrived at the Hotel, there were what seemed to be drug users milling about the lobby. I say this because the 1st person I saw was talking to the street as I was turning into the lot. I figured that it was late and i'd not be able to find another room at the hour that i'd tough it out for one night, and find a more suitable place the following day. So, I proceeded to check in, there was a guy that was a manager and a younger thin black female with Barbie written on her name tag. She took my drivers license and credit card, and proceeded to try and photocopy my credit card, in which I vehemently protested until she gave up on trying to copy it. Then attempted to run my card on two occasions to pay for the room. Both times she ran my card she stated that the transaction had failed. She asked for the managers help and he ignored her. She then asked me to use the ATM in the lobby to pay cash for the room stating that this happens with their machine all the time. So, I used the ATM that charges a $4.00 fee when you withdraw cash. I had to run my card two times because the machine will only allow a maximum of $200 for every transaction. So, after that I paid cash for the room, received my key card, gathered my things and made my way to the room. As soon as I entered the hot room, I turned on the air conditioner and promptly five or so German cockroaches came running out, the room itself was filthy. Carpet, furniture, the sheets were so worn out that you could see through them. I made one night and checked out as early as I could the following morning. I did pay in advance the night before and had no issues with the lady that refunded my money for the 2nd night. (I assume they are used to this). Now it is Sunday night, the 8th of October. I get home from my weekend activities and look over my bank statement a little and notice two charges on my statement in the amount of $204.00. I promptly called back Super 8 Austin North's front desk. Guess who answers! Yes Barbie! The 1st thing she says is Super 8 can I help you? And before I could utter another word sets the phone down on the desk. I'm listening to Barbie have a conversation with these people in the lobby that I presume to be drug users. They are talking about cupcakes??? Anyway after about three minutes she comes back on the phone and says she is sorry for making me wait while she is talking to people that obviously hang out there all the time. Anyway I explained to Barbie what had happened. It was as if I were talking to a rock. She asked me to call back in the morning when a manager was available. I said fine, no problem. Whats the number to your corporate office. Again she had no idea... If I could give negative stars, I really would! that place is the worst place i've ever...
