Our hotel experience was top notch. I lived in Baker City for 17 years and know that this hotel has changed hands a few times in recent years so I was happy to know new management gave wonderful service. Our experience with the restaurant side if things was definitely more 1 star. When I came to check into the hotel I entered the lobby and saw an older man in a uniform yelling at someone behind the desk. The gentleman behind the desk was trying to defuse the argument as I had just walked in while it appeared that the older man didn't care and continued his aggressive argument. This was awkward and very unprofessional in my opinion. We ended up staying for two days and as this wasn't our original plan we ended up having to switch hotel rooms which meant we had to find something to do for a few hours until we could check in again. We went to get a late breakfast at another location and still hadn't taken enough time up to be able to check in. I called the hotel and asked if there was any way we could check in early or go hang out at the pool until our room was ready. Again, management was very accommodating and told me that wouldn't be an issue and that he would call me as soon as the room was ready. We got back to the hotel and had no where to change into our swimsuits so the manager said we could use the restaurant bathroom to change really quick. My son and I did not have any issues with this. My boyfriend on the other hand had someone enter AND USE the restroom while he was changing and gruffly state that the restaurant is closed and he shouldn't be in there. To which my bf stated we were directed and told we could use these restrooms. Apparently the conversation got so heated/ aggressive that my bf asked the man what his title was to which the man stated he was the restaurant/ kitchen manager. The restaurant/ kitchen manager then stormed out of the restroom without washing his hands to go have words with the hotel manager. At this point I was in the lobby getting pool towels and the restaurant/ kitchen manager started yelling at the hotel manager saying there's people in the restroom, I stated that's my bf we were just changing. The hotel manager was again trying to defuse the situation and telling the restaurant/ kitchen manager how inappropriate his behavior was infront of a hotel guest. The restaurant/ kitchen manager again did not care at all.
I would have given 5 stars if not for that crazy, inappropriate and disgusting experience. I cannot believe a restaurant/ kitchen manager would behave so inappropriately and be caught not washing his hands after touching his genitals. I'm so glad we...
Read moreWe decided to stay last minute at this BW on our way to Portland because we weren’t feeling well. We just wanted a bed to sleep in. We are two single young females and we didn’t feel safe.
We have an old small dog. I don’t usually book or stay in hotels and this was my first time booking at Best Western. Every other hotel I have stayed at they ask if I have a dog during the booking process, this hotel did not so I genuinely didn’t think about it. We got up to our room and I had gotten a call from the front desk asking if I had a dog. Which I confusingly said yes because I hadn’t seen anything other than this hotel being pet friendly. Turns out there were special rooms for dogs. Completely my fault and I apologized profusely. I paid the $20 fee and thought nothing of it. He kept insisting to be careful because if the housekeeping staff see any damage I’ll get charged $100, completely understandable. My old dog literally sleeps on the floor the entire time, not even moving.
We then ordered dinner at their on site restaurant and asked if we wanted the food brought to the room. We said no. When we picked up the food he said the housekeeper forgot to put pillow cases back on the pillows and asked if he could come up to fix that. Again we said no just out of having a weird feeling. We got back to our room and the pillows had pillowcases on them. It just seemed like he was trying to find a way to come up to the room. The salad we ordered also had chicken on it when according to the menu you had to add the chicken for a fee. Which we’re vegetarian so we couldn’t even eat any of it.
When I first turned on the sink it was pink/rust colored and took forever to to run clear.
Single woman.. just please be careful staying at this hotel. We felt like we were being watched and I’ll be sending a message to Best Western because I don’t want any other person to feel this eerie feeling. This place has way too many sus 5 star reviews to...
Read moreI stayed in this hotel during a work trip, and for me the location was perfect. It is a fine hotel for the Best Western Brand. The people at the front desk were welcoming and did a nice job. The hotel building and room are older construction, but the room was well up kept and clean. The bed was a touch harder than I would have preferred, but it still slept well. As far as I can say, it was a good stay.
That said, I have to mention something that happened during my stay that may or may not reflect on the hotel. When I was winding down from the day, after showering, and while comfortably in my bed, I felt something on the back side of my knee. When I looked down, there was a tick on my leg that apparently latched on at that moment. I had not felt or seen anything of a tick before that time, and I hadn't been near anything like woods for days, and even where I went a few days before wasn't really woodsy. The reality is, I could have picked up that tick anywhere. It could have come in on my own clothes after transferring from someone on an airplane or in a restaurant. But what I know is that I first found that tick latched on to me into the hotel bed, and it made for a frustrating hour trying to get the tools in hand to safely remove it. I don't think badly of the hotel based on that moment alone, and neither should you. However, if other guests begin reporting the same, then I think other people should be cautious. So, I mentioning it here because other people deserve to have all the information on hand to make informed decisions about where they stay. Personally, I would...
