Sorry, but when you bring my 12 yr old daughter to tears, you deserve less than one star.
The hotel is a close option if you will be sightseeing around San Francisco (about 30-45 minutes depending on traffic).
Amenities include coin-op laundry, small workout room, kitchenettes in the rooms with full-size fridge, and a pool (no hot-tub). Check in/out relatively simple.
Issues included a toilet that had to be plunged several times, low water pressure, and inconsistent services/amenities (i.e., a dishwasher, but no provided dish soap). This can be an easy fix with a Dollar store about a 5-10 minute drive away.
Three plates, three small glasses, some assorted silverwear and a frying pan were the cooking tools at your disposal.
Walls super thin (as with most hotels) but when I asked the front desk to contact the room above us about the child (I assume) that was running back and forth jumping loudly on the floor at 1:34 AM, no attempt to contact them was made (would have heard the phone ring and it continued until around 2:24).
Shower dripped most of the night requiring the bathroom door to stay shut and although toilet plunges were taken care of within ten minutes, why not just leave a plunger if issues persist that much?
Final straw was when we were at Pier 39 and I wanted to drive around taking some night pics of the city. My daughter wanted to get back to the hotel to swim. We got back in time to make it out to the pool by 9:14pm (closes at 10). Gate locked and you have to ask for a key (no badge in option). Despite no one physically working on pool, was told it was closed for maintenance. No signs, no indication anywhere that this would be occurring. Anytime a major amenity will not be available, quality places announce or indicate this. Next morning, was told pool would be open at ten. When I asked what maintenance was done the night before, front desk was unable to tell, but checked with manager. That's when the informed me the pool would in fact not be open at ten as she has just I formed me two minutes earlier.
My daughter and I are avid swimmers and to have such a major amenity out of commission is a BIG deal to use. I understand issues arise, but the lack of communication to your guests is inexcusable. Especially when my last night could have been capturing beautiful nighttime skyline photos of the city versus having my daughter in tears for lack of communication by a sub-par hotel.

Read moreAVOID THIS HOTEL. The manager was unhelpful and extremely rude. My family and I initially reserved a regular room through Expedia, but this reservation was very kindly upgraded by the hotel itself to a wheelchair-accessible, ADA compliant room - with a roll-in shower and shower chair. This request was made on the 14th of October, for the 26th of October. We called the front-desk of this hotel every few days to confirm that this request was valid. The request was valid up until the morning before we checked in. When we arrived that evening we were suddenly given a room that was NOT wheelchair accessible or ADA-compliant, and when we went to the front desk, we were simply told there was no accessible room, even though our request was confirmed that morning.
When we took this up with the manager she simply asked us "are you staying or leaving," over and over again instead of helping us find a solution. When we said we were leaving, she said that we would still be charged $140 for that night, instead of giving us a refund or at least apologizing for the mistake. Even though our calls were directly through Hyatt House Belmont, the manager said that our request "could not be guaranteed" as it was made through a third party. The Expedia screen she showed us conveniently did not show the request for the accessible room, which did not add up. This was in spite of the fact that we called to confirm this request several times in the days before we arrived.
She also entirely denied the fact that we had called the front desk, even though our calls quite clearly went to "Hyatt House Belmont." These call records are on our phone, and I am sure they are in the front desk as well. This meant we had no choice but to use the inaccessible room, and it was too late to find another place to stay. She swore at us as we walked away, and even asked me "can I help you?" in a challenging way when I turned to look at her in shock after that. As a person with a disability and a wheelchair user, not only was I disheartened by the abject lack of empathy, but it was also extremely difficult to use the inaccessible room, especially since our plans hinged on our room being ADA-compliant. The manager, and her extremely rude behavior easily made this one of the worst experiences I have ever had at a Hyatt property. I would like to see some accountability from her. Please avoid this location...
Read moreHow this place musters 4.4 stars on Google is a mystery to me. I've stayed here three times over the course of nearly two years, and been disappointed on each visit.
The WiFi is essentially non-functional. Forget about loading basic webpages, let alone casting video to the TV (and forget, too, the idea of just watching conventional TV, since the picture quality on most channels is so grainy that it'll make you squint).
The walls and ceilings are made of cardboard, so every night and every morning you'll feel like a herd of wildebeest are stampeding above your head. Other guests seem to enjoy playing noisy basketball games late into the evening, or simply galloping up and down the rickety staircases.
Breakfast is laughable: some apologetic scrambled egg and oatmeal packets tossed carelessly into a jar. I had to beg for a cup of tea, and received an eye-roll just for asking. Breakfast closes at 9am, which would be ridiculously early were it not for the fact that you'll already be awake at the crack of dawn, thanks to the aforementioned wildebeest.
The air conditioning hasn't worked on any of my three visits, and the rooms are dated and the furniture very tired-looking. Rooms aren't filthy, but you do get the general sense that they're not particularly clean. On my most recent stay, which lasted two weeks, I didn't receive a single visit from housekeeping, despite putting in three requests for new sheets.
For no apparent reason, the car park costs $10 per night - this in spite of the fact that there are no other premises nearby, so it's not as though the general public are coming to the hotel to park their cars. It's just a money-making hustle by the management.
On the plus side, the beds are comfortable and each room has a fully-equipped kitchen. But it's not enough to outweigh the negatives, and I won't be putting myself through this experience for a fourth time. A real embarrassment to the...
