Hi son, my wife and I went to Koriander on Father’s Day. We live in Fremont but wanted to try something different.
Right from the beginning there was total chaos and confusion. We opted for the buffet. Almost all dishes were put together in a big hurry, without any taste or consistency in mind.
Almost 8 out of 10 dishes were out and you had to constantly remind the staff to refill them. Customers were literally scraping the bottom of the pans when the food was supposed to have been filled up. The drinks in the dispenser were out as well. The mango drink was always out.
The service was horrible. Had to consistently walk and get an employee to remove dirty plates off your table. Even after constant reminders, some foods were never filled, for example, the tandoori chicken.
It was easy to see that they were way understaffed, and I couldn’t understand why the owner could not see that Father’s Day would be busy.
Every time you would remind somebody to refill a certain dish on the buffet line, they said it would be there in five minutes. Surprisingly, when I ran after 10 minutes, the dish was still out. This went on for over 40 to 50 minutes, It appeared that the staff was so overwhelmed, that they simply did not give a damn.
Two employees at the entrance, kept on filling up the restaurant with customers, even after it was full, fully knowing that the dishes on the buffet line were not being filled. The goal was to get as many people in so they could make $24 plus tax on each customer. Overall, the whole experience was nightmarish. There are several other buffets that are a million times better than this as far as food and service are concerned. Don’t waste your time and energy on this one.
I called and spoke to the owner and expressed my concern over my last visit. His lame excuse was he thought there would be 70 people for the buffet but 150 showed up. This after being in business for multiple years. He said they would be more attentive in the future. Great customer complaint resolution skills. I told him I don’t plan on eating there in the future. He asked me how many people were in my party. I said three. He said he would invite me back for two free meals. He said I should let one of the employees know that I had spoken to the owner and he had invited me back for two free meals. I said OK, contemplating whether I should go or not. The call ended there.
Two days later, the owner sent me a text message saying I was welcome to ONLY one free meal. What a cheapskate. I sent him a text message back saying he could have my free meal and I would not be going back to Koriander ever. Can you imagine an owner reneging over two free meals? That alone showed me that place was not worth another visit. Save your money and go...
Read moreOMG how I love this Koriander Indian Cuisine restaurant in Belmont. First there is always parking in their little strip mall. Easy on and off the very close on and off ramp of 101 at Ralson exit.
Cordial to friendly staff. Always helpful. I am from San Francisco and being in San Carlos often, always either eat there or bring home Chicken Dum Biryani to freeze for my lunches. Oh, yummmmmmm.
My daughter does not handle spicy food too well, but we have a couple of dishes that she can have, like Butter Chicken and the most delicious Dhahi Papdi Chat (wish we had some right now.) I love anything Tika Masala with any meat, but my favorite dish is Fish Curry. They really know how to cook fish to be succulent but still firm.
Their buffet on the weekends and special holidays is to die for. Sooooo very many choices. A very good way to learn about Indian food. Taste everything, you might find something you did not know you would like.
It is a large space so there is almost always a table available. Take out is fast and delicious with extra dip cups. They also have outdoor seating. Many families eat here. They have accommodated our Holiday parties a few times over the past years. There have been 8 to 10 of us and we had such good times there. I have seen larger parties also. Everything runs smoothly.
I can't recommend Koriander Indian Cuisine enough for your family. If I needed a carterer, I would choose Koriander for sure. I rate them 20 out of 10.
If you like Indian food you won't be disappointed . If you want to try Indian food, try their buffet. It is the best Indian restaurant around and the best way to become familiar with many, many Indian items from bread, to veggies, to meats, to curries, to wonderful desserts. Be sure to try the Gulab Jamun balls, my favorite. Enjoy...
Read moreThis place used to be my favorite. Food was good most of the times and service was always excellent. I used to eat from here multiple times every week. Now it feels like it has been taken over by an efficiency specialist who is trying to optimize/invest in the wrong places. Just take today's experience. They advertise a 10% discount on their website for online orders. So, I tried ordering online on my phone (pixel 1). The ordering workflow did not work for my phone. Then I took out my laptop to place the order. I placed my order at 5:45 pm and setup the pickup time as 6:15 pm (way after their suggested time of 6:04 pm). Anyhow, when I reached the restaurant at 6:20 pm, I was told that my order was not ready. At around 6:30 pm, my name was called out with some food in a brown bag. When I double checked, it only had half my order. It is now 6:45, an hour after I placed my order, and I am yet to receive the second half of my order. In the meanwhile, the first half of my order (dosas) is getting cold and soggy. So much for trying to save 10% on my dinner. Effectively, tonight's dinner has been and spoilt and thirty odd dollars have...
