It would be nice to see a couple conveniences: boot dryer, and few plastic or paper cups. The room had a fairly noisy white noise of constant airflow, although it was quiet overall and the white noise from the air vent was much better than an insanely loud mini-split constantly cycling every few minutes all night. Blackout curtain was perfect and a true blackout curtain. Brad was the front desk attendant and was extraordinarily welcoming, friendly, and inviting. I greatly appreciated his service and ability to be so energetic in spite of how brutally exhausted I was. The tissues provided were kind of annoying as pulling one out seemed to pull many out. I like their idea of being sanitary, although maybe a simple tissue pack would have suited me better, I'm not sure, I did feel bad for wasting so many. Minus the lack of cups and a boot dryer, the room was awesome and I would love to stay here again in the future. The view was awesome, and I was almost disappointed that the bed wasn't at a 30 degree angle and facing the window. It was such a perfect room for the price. Shower was much hotter than some other hotels and I really enjoyed my stay. For a better experience, I would greatly enjoy that same room viewing the Suba Guru sign, although with hard floors (NO CARPET), a noise dampener from the airflow unit, a few cups, a splitter for the mini-fridge so I can refreeze ice packs, a free pen, and a global light switch to turn off all the lights I have on before I leave and resume them when I return. Also, the privacy island between the sink was a bit unnecessary and annoying, although comforting to separate items from potentially falling in the toilet. The bathroom layout is better than other hotels, although the door still swings almost a foot into the way if your shower door as a downside. Otherwise, this hotel is on point and par with a great stay. It is definitely more "vacation" oriented as breakfast is idealizing "fruit" as cereal with dried fruit, and there are no plain options like eggs and potatoes and rice, however despite the sugar and dairy options with lack of plain options, it is a fairly enjoyable and reasonable breakfast and I'm sure it changes. I enjoy my dairy on occasion, although I did not want any that morning. Most options were essentially sugar/cereal based. No plain fruit...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed with our adult son for four nights to enjoy fly fishing in the Bend area. The hotel appears to be new or recently upgraded, everything was fresh and clean, and the staff was very friendly. The location was great for us - in south Bend, but very close to the 97 route which runs north and south.
Since we were there so long, we requested a quiet room on the top floor, and that's exactly what we were assigned. We chose the two queen room with extra living space that included a sleeper couch. It wasn't a "mini-suite", but a long room in which all the beds were laid out in a row. The sleeper couch was way too "springy" when pulled out as a bed, so our son simply put the mattress flat on the floor and that worked fine. Our room was designated a "visually impaired" room, but that just meant the entryway and bathroom were larger so it had no real effect on us.
The room was quiet and clean. There were some loud neighbors on the first night, but the hotel can't really help that and it didn't last long.
It was nice that breakfast was slightly different each of the four mornings. There were versions of eggs/omelettes, sausages, biscuits/gravy, potatoes, pancakes, cereals, yogurts, breads/rolls, etc. The breakfast manager, Vince, was very friendly and did a great job of really keeping up on everything, cleaning tables, etc. All the hotel staff were friendly and professional. This will be our home base in Bend on...
Read moreTerrible Experience with Overcharging and Dishonesty
I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Bend, Oregon, and my experience was nothing short of frustrating. We are a military family traveling on orders and I booked directly with the hotel for $120/night, but to my shock, I discovered that the hotel had fraudulently overcharged my credit card without my consent after we checked out. When I contacted the hotel to resolve the issue, they lied and claimed they had informed me about changing the nightly rate to $191, something that absolutely did not happen. I believe they got me confused with another person because I was not contacted by anyone at the hotel about their increase in government rate. Had I known, I would have booked one of the many other hotels in Bend that don’t take advantage of military having to move across country.
Not only is it completely unacceptable to change the higher rate without notifying the guest, but the blatant dishonesty from the staff was infuriating. Despite my attempts to address the situation with the hotel directly and IHG, their parent company, I was met with dismissiveness and a lack of accountability.
I strongly advise against staying at this hotel. Their unethical practices and deceitful behavior have left a bad taste in my mouth. Save yourself the trouble and choose a hotel that values transparency...
