I have been going to Cancun for over a decade, and it has been my #1 favorite Mexican spot in the east bay (would have rated it 6/5 stars), sometimes I'd go more than once a week. They used to have this awesome salsa bar with over 30 salsas, that put them miles above other Mexican restaurants (plus their burritos and ingredients were straight incredible). Salsa bar has been closed since Covid which is 100% understandable.
On my most recent trip today, I was quite disappointed with their new changes. They revamped their menu and removed the Super/Normal burrito options. They now have a baseline burrito in which you can include paid addons (sourcream/guac/etc). Just to be clear, the two stars is not an indication of their food quality, but more-so the new way they revamped their offerings.
An old super burrito was around 15.50 (a bit high compared to other places, but totally worth it for the fresh ingredients). It would come with sour cream/guac/cheese/rice/pico/meat/salsa/beans. It would also come with a side of chips and salsa.
Today I went in and ordered a super burrito, they told me it no longer existed and now the option is to order a basic burrito and "customize it". I asked for the equivalent of whatever a super burrito used to be with the paid addons. When I got home, I realized it was missing rice and was way smaller than it used to be. Here is how it works now:
Baseline Burrito (meat, tortilla, beans, pico, salsa) = $9.99 Guacamole Addon: $2.00 Sour Cream Addon: 1.50 Jack Cheese Addon: 1.00 Mexican Rice Addon (since when is rice an addon?!?): 1.50 Side of Salsa (tiny): .75 Bag of Chips (tiny) 1.00
New version of an old equivalent is now over $20 with tax for one of the skinniest super burritos I have ever seen. My fiancé jokingly asked if I got her a taquito instead of the burrito she asked for.
I totally understand the need to raise prices with inflation, and am happy to support a price hike and pay more for a similar quality experience. However, when you add this new complexity, shrunken size of burritos and paid addon for virtually half the ingredients that used to be included - it just doesn't make sense anymore.
It pains me to say this, but this is probably the last time I am going to Cancun for awhile. Maybe I'll give it a shot in a few months to see if they can work through...
Read moreThis place had been recommended by Nudge, and yesterday was Cinco de Mayo and I was craving tacos. I placed an order online through their website. It provided a number to call upon arrival and the food would be brought out to you. Upon arrival, Allston way was LINED with cars waiting to pick up food in both directions, and the restaurant was packed with people, very obviously not aligning with social distancing guidelines among the current covid fiasco. I tried calling the number 27 times, most of the time it would go straight to voicemail and the other times no one would answer. At this point I didn’t even want my food because there was no way I was going into a packed restaurant. I drove away annoyed and shocked that no one seemed to care about social distancing guidelines. (This is also poor decision making on the customers who stupidly crowded in there). Today (the next day), I called to respectfully complain about the situation last night. I explained to a manager what had happened, and she politely, apologetically explained to me that they had been completely slammed with orders last night, and that many orders hadn’t been fulfilled or even processed. She said it was her day off and she had to come into work to get things under control. She acknowledged that the restaurant got out of control (in regards to social distancing guidelines) and informed me that customers who hadn’t received their order were getting an automatic refund. She proceeded to take my info in case my refund had not been issued. Before I even had time to check if my refund had come through, she called me back to confirm that I was issued a refund and it should be in my account either today or tomorrow. I never got my food, and had decided I would never come back to this place again. However, after speaking to the manager, I give this place 5 stars solely for her excellent customer service, and will give it another shot...
Read moreUpdate: PLEASE BE CLEAR, THE FOOD IS GOOD! ALWAYS FRESH! Those men can cook!😍 I'm not being critical, I want you to continue to win!
But... I understand we are coming out of a pandemic but seriously! 🤔 You are now charging for everything including pico, sour cream, guacamole, chips and salsa... when does it end! You charge for the items that should be inside a burrito! 🤷🏽♀️You have always been more expensive than the average burrito location, if you're a regular you understand that. I also understand you had to raise prices but it now feels like you can't get a decent burrito or taco under $15 dollars and thats minus something you have always had!!! It feels nit-picky, cheap! If you can't afford to run the restaurant anymore get a food truck but restore the integrity! The lines I once saw will return. Just sayin... ....... I've been a customer since they were a small storefront across the street. I love this place because the food is fresh and they use organic ingredients. Also, they don't use lard in their beans/rice/chips.
Customer service from one of the female cashiers can be better. As often as I go, I never feel welcome. Everyone else is pretty cool. This should...
