I was extremely disappointed in the service and the accommodations that my guests received during our stay. We initially blocked off 10 rooms under the Wedding Party (BWW), and we exceeded that number by booking a total of 17 rooms. Because I am in the military, I was unable to travel to Birmingham to view the hotel prior to booking. I booked the hotel based off the name (the Hilton Brand), my typical experience with Embassy Suites, and the proximity to the venue. My wedding weekend destroyed the faith I had in Hilton, and I am no longer able to simply “trust the brand.” When I arrived on Friday night, check in was unnecessarily complicated and slightly rude but I chose to ignore the front desk clerk since I was tired, and Lynette Roberts was so amazing. After getting to my room I discovered there was not a sticker on the door detailing that the room had been cleaned and sanitized. I did not pay attention to this detail until I later discovered the linen on the sofa was dirty! My best friend arrived to stay with me the night before my wedding. Upon preparing for bed she pulled the sofa bed out, and to our dismay, it still had old linen made up in the sofa bed as evidenced by hairs found in the bed. This is completely unacceptable and flat out disgusting. I apologized to her profusely and we started the process of cleaning and sanitizing the mattress prior to putting on new linen that was brought. (The night manager, I do not remember his name, was so accommodating and super apologetic.) Another issue to be noted is the water pressure in the bedroom sink was nonexistent, and we were unable to use that sink. The following morning (Sunday approximately 8 am CST), I called the front desk to receive room service so the room would be presentable for the “glam vendors” to start arriving. My plan was to get dressed in a peaceful CLEAN environment. At around 1pm CST when housekeeping had not shown, I proceeded to clean the room myself, I gathered up all the trash and dirty linen and placed it outside the door. At approx. 4:40pm CST, before I left for my wedding, no one from housekeeping had arrivedcleaned, or provided any additional linen or towels. This is totally unacceptable.
On Monday, Imagine my embarrassment when, the day after my wedding the discussion while eating out was not a discussion of the wedding but of how horrible the hotel was. My family and friends passed phones around the table showing pictures of the hotel, discussed the issues each one of them had with their rooms, and the service they received at the front desk. My parents’ room- Within 10 seconds of walking in the room after checking in, I knew my parents accommodations were subpar and completely below any expectations I had for the Hilton brand. The light in the bedroom did not work, there was rust in the bathroom tub, and when I attempted to call down to the front desk to ask them to come view the room, the phones in the room would not work. Both of my parents are senior citizens and my uncle (who stayed in the room with them) is a disable veteran, so I booked the room on their behalf. They were moved to another room (815 I believe) and that room was better however it was missing clean linen for the let-out sofa. By that point it was about 11pm and my parents were too tired to look for another hotel. The embarrassment I felt for my parents and uncle upon walking into the room knowing that I booked their room and hotel for them was unmatched and was a horrible start to my wedding weekend.
After I emailed Guest correspondence, they redirected me to the local manager, Jose Pereira. He ultimately refused to...
Read moreMy family and I had a pleasant stay. I was a bit worried due to the reviews written but didn't back out due to location. It was either going to be a hit or miss. It was a hit for many reasons.
The staff was kind. The inside of the hotel was unique due the layout of the hotel. The location was lovely, had the opportunity to explore so many residential streets as well as shops nearby on a sunny Sunday after checking out before heading back to South Carolina.
Had a issue with the door not closing, the staff was efficient in helping me with the issue. I had to close it hard, basically slam the door due to how poorly the contractors renovated the rooms. It was a issue that was solved, that earned a star for me. What really did it was there was no complaining.
The pullout bed didn't have sheets on it. THANK YOU! I myself love that the pullout itself didn't have sheets and that they were to be requested. Most hotels do not clean the sheets on the pullout bed and it also makes it easier to examine without having the rip the sheets apart just to get to the mattress. I know many do not like the idea of a bare pullout bed, but I definitely do. Upon requesting blankets, sheets and pillows: the gentleman brought each item without forgetting one (cause it happens), they were clean, fresh and warm. Didn't take a hour, not even 30 minutes, he arrived within 10 minutes. Due to how busy the hotel was that day it was not expected. I thought maybe 30 minutes or an hour, he came immediately after the call.
The room was nice. Our TV in the bedroom was broken at the base. It didn't work or turn on. I took it as a sign the good Lord was telling my husband and I to rest, so we rested instead.
Now here is some issues that I believe can make this hotel a great stay for all visitors.
During the night children ran throughout the whole floor. We stayed on the 5th floor, it was a bit frustrating, but with having to understand that it's summer, I do believe parents should be considerate of others who booked the stay as well. I too have children and they know and knew they weren't allowed to run around in a establishment like that.
It is completely dangerous. All it takes is the wrong move, and playing around way to much and a child could easily fall or be pushed over the railing. Yes, the glass is high but we all know children for those of us who have them, especially boys... there's always a way.
The other complaint was the loud talking and yelling outside the windows around 11pm. It was adults I'm assuming was going out and carpooling. Again, not a issue to get together. It only becomes a problem when it is disturbing the peace of others. The hotel isn't a nightclub but it sounded like the outside of a bar.
Lastly, breakfast could be a bit better if the machines weren't watered down. From juice to soda to coffee. It wasnt to my liking. The set up and ambience was beautiful, but the breakfast could be a bit better. But nonetheless the staff was so kind and so vibrant. As well as the people staying. It was the best experience I've ever had at an Embassy in so long.
Lastly, the pillows. I understand asthetics but can you all make sure the bed has FULL size pillows. The small ones are cute but definitely not for a good night's rest. Yes, they are comfortable and soft but not for a great night's rest.
4 stars for the breakfast and the pillows. As well as the lovely staff that made the stay pleasant.
My hope is that these reviews are considered so everyone can enjoy what I did plus more during...
Read moreThe only redeeming quality about this hotel is the staff. They could not have been friendlier or more helpful. However, the building is a different story altogether. I’ve stayed in some hotels that one could say looked a little tired, but this place is EXHAUSTED! You can tell that this was once an extremely nice hotel, but those days appear to have been long, long ago. On the way to the room, the first thing I noticed was the horrendous condition of the elevator interiors. The glass was heavily scratched and dirty. The control panel was also extremely worn and scratched from many many years of use, no doubt. These lifts were in the condition of old service elevators. The first room I was given wasn’t fit to stay in. The smell of mildew and dampness was overwhelming as soon as the door opened. There was so much moisture in the air, the veneer on the furniture was beginning to warp, and if you picked up a magazine on the table, you could see the outline of it. All the fabric in the room, from the draperies, to the bed linens, to the carpeting felt wet. I notified the front desk and they placed me in a new room without hesitation. Again, the staff was great. The new room was mostly free of the dampness issue, but not entirely, which tells me there must be some sort of ventilation/dehumidification issue. The appointments of the room were in dilapidated condition. The doors of the wardrobe were misaligned and difficult to open and close, scraping against each other and the floor of the cabinet. The light inside the floor lamp of the living room was detached from its base and hanging from the wire, and the harp that held the shade was so loose that the shade leaned from side to side. I’m guessing this was knocked over and poorly reassembled. The air intake grate for the HVAC was partially detached from the wall and heavily rusted (again, serious moisture/condensation problem). The mattress was very springy and creaky, and was akin to sleeping on an old sofa. The television in the bedroom did not work (I realise this is something I could have probably called about and had fixed, but it wasn’t a necessity to me at the time). Outside the room along the corridor, I noticed all the empty hanging baskets that once would have been beautifully planted. This left the atrium looking very stark. I also noticed that the pavilions around the dining area had had their cloth canopies removed and were just in their bare metal frame states. I couldn’t help but notice that one of them has deteriorated to the point that a number of it’s components had been removed. Rusting joints were also very noticeable. Suffice it to say that I would not stay in this property again nor would I recommend it to anyone. It is my understanding that it is scheduled for a renovation in Summer ‘24, but by the look of things it appears it should have started in ‘04. I can only hope it’s going to be an extensive and invasive restoration, and not a coat of paint and...
