Got to the restaurant. They said it would be an hour wait. We went down to O’henry’s and grabbed some coffee to just chill while we waited. I downloaded Yelp so I could see the wait time live. I practically watched it the whole time. We were 17 in line. I had somehow missed a notification that our table was ready by 14 minutes. Mind you, we weren’t gone for a whole 20 min. before they sent me the notification that my table was ready via text (and you have 3 min to claim your table, which they should let you know that ahead of time). Nonetheless, I didn’t mind and a man that was waiting for the rest of the party let us go ahead, because they couldn’t find our name at all (because we didn’t claim our table in 3 minutes).
All of that was fine.
We get into the restaurant and order. Our waitress seemed a bit cold, but no worries. I asked for the Big Bag Breakfast, a pancake, side of gravy and the shrimp skillet with andouille sauce for my 4 year old. I was brought the Yard Work (skillet loaded with veggies) I didn’t really notice it at first, but he barely touched it because it was a veggie omelette with avocado (I ordered shrimp because that’s what he likes and he doesn’t like avocado he’s 4). I know I didn’t order the yard work. I grabbed our to go boxes and explained that I got the wrong item and we would take it even though he didn’t like it and that’s not what we wanted. She said “my mistake I thought you said yard work”, but she didn’t really offer to amend it in any way, even though I’m certain of what I ordered.
We were finished eating and she brought our ticket. Nobody came for a while to grab the card, so we went to the front to pay, where we were told we pay at our table. We were able to pay at the front, and upon paying and going to leave a tip, I noticed we paid for the wrong order which was double the cost of our order. It was quickly able to be refunded by the manager who was very polite throughout the entire experience.
The food was good. Both skillets were great, the veggie one was fantastic for an adult, not so much for picky children. Waitress maybe should be a little more present. Maybe she had something going on in her mind, but there were a lot of moments where attentiveness and staying present could’ve made our experience a little better. To the people handling seating and waiting times, maybe let first time people know that it may be an hour, but times are variable and definitely that you only have a few minutes to claim the table, and that will be imperative to keeping your seat.
Cooks-food was fantastic and quickly served.
Manager-friendly and nice the whole time, even while not interacting with us.
The facility was clean and my little boy really like the toys on the wall. I enjoyed the paintings. We will return. Next time, I will make sure to be very clear about our order and will amend my 4-star review to 5 stars based on having a better experience.
This was still a good experience as I don’t mind that mistakes happen. Just some constructive...
Read moreTexas natives first time to Birmingham and first time to BBB. We came on a Saturday morning about 10:15am. The expected wait was 30 to 45 minutes; we were seated before our expected time. It is a rainy Saturday and with so many people coming for breakfast, there wasn't enough room to wait inside, however, BBB put out a canopy to help keep customers dry. I literally haven't seen that anywhere. Guess I don't go to breakfast on rainy days, but this was very appreciated. Owen served us and did a lovely job. We ordered fresh made decaf coffee, fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, the Redneck Benny and the Big Bad Skillet with biscuit, Blackberry Jam, Peach Jam and butter. Our mouths were so happy! The BB Skillet was super flavorful with a little zing. The Redneck Benny had mellower flavors and was a yummy mess. Fresh squeezed grapefruit juice was such a nice treat, as was fresh brewed decaf coffee. The Blackberry Jam and Peach Jam were Sooooo tasty that we ordered a second biscuit to enjoy those jams on, buttered of course. One of the other things that impressed us was the fact that BBB doesn't squash a bunch of tables in their 2 floor space. We felt safe, it was easy to get around upstairs, and the view kept our minds off of the wait for food, which was quick.
PROS: Spacious Great food Friendly service from the moment we walked in to the moment we walked out.
CONS: Parking can be a challenge. Be prepared to wait, and potentially walk up stairs to be seated.
OTHER: The price will not fit every budget, though we do feel we got...
Read moreOf all the hard choices in life BBB makes breakfast a no-brainer. I have enjoyed this restaurant for years. Then came the Homewood location.... Rajean ( the French Reggie😂) is very nice and never intruded on my rare excursions out alone to enjoy my favorite meal. Then Autumn came... No not the season. The server. Autumn is always cheerful, knowledgeable, while still remembering the orders of her regulars. Hell the whole staff acts like that. As Autumn was working feverishly doing her job she is telling how much she loves...her Manager!!! What?!? Who loves their boss.... Come to find out, this “taskmaster” Will was working behind her taking plates to tables. All the while smiling.....he was very pleasant too. What’s in the water there, because we all need that kind of happiness at work. Skip Ruby Sunshine and their Bowls of alcohol... the reason why they serve in such big glasses is because you WON’T see your bartender/server for the next hour. Not at big bad breakfast!!! 110% best atmosphere/ food around!!! Price makes you as happy as the...
