I have lived in Duncansville for over 50 years until I moved five years ago to another part of the state. When returning home for the holidays, we stay at the Comfort Inn in Duncansville as it is a stone’s throw from my family.
When we first started staying there, everything was great. However, the past few years, with every visit we stayed there, things have gotten worse. Last Christmas we experienced the pipes freezing and bursting in the hotel and had to move to another hotel location on Christmas Day. It was a fiasco!
We just got home from our stay in Duncansville yesterday. Our adventure began when we arrived and checked in. When I made the reservation, I specifically asked for first floor accommodations, handicapped accessible if available, as I use a cane and am unable to walk very far. As I was at the front desk, I noticed we were assigned a room on the second floor, not the first. I told the desk clerk I specifically asked for a first floor room and handicapped accessible. She’s like, we have an elevator. I said, that’s not the point. I booked a first floor room. The room you have us in, we’d have to go up the elevator and walk clear to the end of the hallway. She looked to see if there was anything on the first floor and said they had one room left. She brought another lady out from the back, the manager I think, and they changed our room to first floor. Of course it was the second to the last room in the hallway so I ended up walking the distance anyway, which was extremely hard for my condition.
The room was sub-par. Had a walk-in shower with a shower chair, which was nice, but there was no place to set any toiletries. There was a shower caddy hanging from the shower sprayer, but you couldn’t reach it sitting in the shower chair, so it was useless. The shower floor was very slippery with no rubber decals or anything for traction. Very dangerous! The bathroom sink and countertop area was very small. There was no room for both of us to set our toiletries on the countertop. We had to ask for more toilet paper as well.
There was a lot of wasted space in the room. No place to put luggage except for one foldout suitcase holder. Garbage cans were so small we had to use grocery bags. The tv was messed up. Only got five channels. Had to call the front desk. Apparently a previous customer set the tv up that way. They worked us thru that problem and finally got the tv fixed. The mattress was horrible!! Very hard and uncomfortable! Both of us ended up with sore backs, hips and stiff necks. This wasn’t the only room we’ve stayed in before that had a horrible mattress. The room was so hot. We turned off the heat for our entire four day stay and the room was still uncomfortable.
The continental breakfast was okay. Not as much variety of things as before. Used to have a nice selection of cereal. Now there was only cornflakes, Raisin Bran and fruit loops. Only apples for fruit. Used to have bananas. Waffles, eggs, sausage and bacon were okay. The pastries like cheese danish were dry and tasteless. Never saw this brand before but it wasn’t good at all. I went to get some eggs and there was only a spoonful left. I politely asked the lady handling the breakfast if we could have some more eggs. She sarcastically said “I’m working on it!” Then, the day after Christmas, they had valentine centerpieces on the tables. Talk about rushing a holiday!
Also, I love animals as much as the next person, but the hotel had a lot of dogs staying there. A dog was barking in the room across from ours. A lady brought her bulldog into the breakfast area! Thats a definite health code violation! Some other guy had three huge dogs including this huge Rottweiler. We counted six dogs that we saw and knew of at the hotel.
This hotel is in desperate need of updating and renovations including new mattresses. We also only saw ladies cleaning rooms on our last day.
Needless to say, after this visit to my hometown, we will no longer be staying at the Comfort Inn Duncansville. We were extremely disappointed in the...
Read moreStayed 3 nights over a weekend while visiting family in the area. The location is great for those needing to be close to Duncansville.
Had a room with 2 queen beds. Both beds were quite broken down on the side by the center table. The table is small, we removed the old dirty phone and clock so we had more space.
It would be nice to have somewhat larger cups to use with the Keurig, because if you fill the water to the fill line in the machine, there is no room for creamer or sugar.
Our room lacked regular coffee, which we did not notice until early Saturday morning, so I went to the front desk. We also had to ask for toilet paper as there were no extra rolls in the room. The toilet paper was very thin and rough.
The lighting in the bathroom is TOO BRIGHT. At least add a dimmer, it's crazy bright, especially at night. 4 bright bulbs, blinding bright.
The air conditioner/heater unit is very loud, and had a squeal at a certain temp, which was unpleasant.
The free breakfast was just ok. Watery fake scrambled eggs, chewy pre-cooked microwaved bacon, same for the biscuits, very tough, and salty sausage gravy that was just warm. The waffles were ok, just one waffle maker. The gal keeping that room clean was removing milk etc. before 10 on Sunday morning. My husband had to ask her to bring it back for his cereal. She sort of hovered while we were eating, it was off-putting.
Desk Staff seemed nice enough, usually sitting down so you couldn't see them until you stood right at the desk. Gambling skill coin machines in the lobby give the place a cheap feel.
Had another stay last week, dirty room this time. And why is there only one small towel rack? Absolutely horrid shower and shower head, barely worked, very outdated controls, like a bathroom from 1990's. Won't...
Read moreThe price didn't reflect in the quality. The first room we were assigned smelled overwhelmingly like an ashtray. When we walked in the second room my wife said well it's not an ashtray smell but it's definitely something else this time. We dealt with the older smelly stuffy humid odor. Room was dingy. Looked like coca cola stains dripping down the wall next to the bed. There were many other stains on the walls, ceilings, carpets, bathroom, shower etc. Dead bugs in the bathroom light fixture. Bathroom ceiling plaster cracking and falling apart. The carpet was pulling away from the wall. Seems like maintenance just slaps band aids on issues rather than solving problems professionally. Maybe maintenance might think they're saving the company money with this approach but in reality it reflects poorly in a hotel. It looked like someone drew a heart on the wall and maintenance did a horrible job painting over it. There is a unique looking hot tub that I wouldn't let me kids go in, it looked like it belongs outside some hillbilly's rundown double wide. Kind of like it was given to the hotel for free from some random neighbor. In my opinion the price should have been lower, I would have spent $50 more to go with another brand of hotels but unfortunately my wife booked this while I was driving. On the positive side, the lady at the front desk was great and the backyard was a nice surprise, we grabbed pizza and ate dinner outside. Outside is also...
