UPDATE: The owner was extremely apologetic and my room fee was refunded.
I hesitate to write bad reviews because they always seem childish to me but I'm feeling extremely frustrated by my experience at Kokopelli Inn. The desk closes at 10pm, and a memeber of my party arrived at midnight. I stepped out to meet her and accidentally left my keys in my room. No one picked up the three listed emergency numbers on the office door so I called the first number a second time. The person who picked up sounded sleepy and I apologized for waking her and told her I had locked myself out of my room. Her response was "no one has a key." I asked, "does that mean I won't be able to get back in my room all night?" She said "fine, what building are you in?" I told her, and she hung up with out another word. When I called back for clarification she said "stop calling, I have people sleeping here." I asked her to tell me where I should meet her and she said "I'm coming." I then saw her walking across the driveway with a man (they seem to live on the property). When they approached he held up his hands as if exhasperated, and asked "why did you have to keep calling? Get inside" pointing to the motel door as if I was a child to be scolded (I'm a small 32 year old woman by myself). I admittedly lost my temper at him at that point and shouted back but he didn't follow us inside and she let me back in my room. I'm still shaken, and I certainly don't feel great about him knowing which room I'm in. If I had a choice I would leave now but I didn't drive myself here. I'm paying more than I would expect for a room this basic, although it's clean. I certainly will not be...
Read moreWe had read reviews of this roadside property before coming that had noted that its rooms were small. That understates it: our room was downright tiny, to the point that it was hard for us to fit both of us into it and move around. I've never before stayed in a motel with rooms so small that not merely the dresser and coat rack, but also the refrigerator, were in the bathroom. That said, it was workable as a base camp (we weren't going to spend much time in the room anyway) and the staff were pleasant and helpful, although the "continental breakfast" was pretty sketchy.||||One other thing: there are tripping hazards all over the place here, most likely because it was built in a time when building codes were not as they are today. The worst was at the rear entrance to the back building, where there is an abnormally high step from parking lot to room level. It's well marked with a yellow warning stripe, but that's little help for someone with bad knees, and I stumbled over it repeatedly. This, more than the small room size, is mainly responsible for my poor rating. This said, it worked OK as a base for hiking the beautiful...
