Upon check in we were met and welcomed very warmly by the woman at the desk. The northern hospitality was very nice to experience. After checking in we were assigned a room on the 3rd floor and were given rules about the "oldest functioning elevator" in the state of Vermont. Only employees were allowed to run the elevator because it has to be manually stopped at the floor. I totally get why. We were told to ring the bell to have someone come up and fetch us. It was an old doorbell located where an elevator button would be. After leaving this unique tiny elevator we found our room #315. We used the key which was an old fashioned real brass key to get into the room. It was not the room I had reserved online. I reserved a family room, which was supposed to have a king sized bed and a separate bedroom with a bed. I was interested in having a king sized bed and there was a small possibility of my son joining us and the room had the other bedroom so we could just add our son to the room and pay for him when we checked in. The hotel has a no refund at all policy if you cancel within 2 weeks of your reservation. It was a bit more money for that room but I chose that one just in case my son joined us. We opened up room 315 and found 2 full size beds on either side of the room. There was nothing quaint about this room. There was a small box heater on the floor, a desk that wouldn't open with a radio on it and a chest of drawers. The bathroom was strange in that you had to step up into it and step down out of it. I don't know why it is like that, I found it difficult to remember to step up especially during the night without a light on and I tripped on it...
Read moreThe inn photos are very misleading, the room we got was a king room and was definitely not pictured in the hotels images. We were supposed to receive a text with room and combination to get into the room since the front desk is not always manned. We did not receive the text but there was someone at the front desk so we got assigned a room that was on the second floor, that room had a do not disturb sign on it. I went back to front desk and he said the maids probably had not cleaned the room yet. We eventually did get into the room which looked as if they had taken a storage area and turned it into a bedroom, very disappointing after seeing photos on website. The room had a lump in the floor that looked like a piece of 3/4" plywood was nailed to the floor and carpeted over creating a trip hazard going into and coming out of the bathroom. The window unit air conditioner was not sealed and heat came in around the seal. Bathroom was cleaned, I know this because they left dirty cleaning supplies on sink. The elevator can only be operated by staff, when the desk is manned. Pity the person on the fourth floor if no one is available for elevator. New door locks were installed, just cut a hole in trim and never bothered to replace trim. I asked for another room but they said they were full so we could not move. We booked three nights but left after one, they said I would have to pay for two nights. My invoice in the mail charged me for all three nights, I contacted Veronica and she said after you check out there is no way to refund money. Nobody was at desk to check out with just a sheet to write your room and...
