Where do I start with the mess that this campground is? I made and confirmed reservations. I then arrive at 5:30pm. But there is a tent in my reserved site. No people but a tent. Other folks have been waiting for hours to see if sites are available. A note on the office door says “back by 6.” 6pm comes and goes…No one is in the office for apparently many hours. The three “emergency” numbers listed on the office door go straight to voice mail. Finally I end up in a different site. The owner telling me that the people with the tent in my reserved site “were supposed to move.” ||The water spigot by the bathroom is turned off so I have to go to the (abandoned) office for water. There are too few toilets for the number of campsites. The toilets have overflowing trash and, even by pit toilet standards, smell awful. The roads into the campsite are narrow and have no “one way” signs. So cars meet you head on. ||We are hiking and so leave by around nine the next morning. Again, no one in the office. So there is no way for me to pay. Later that afternoon I get an e mail asking when we will check out. I respond that we left at nine. They didn’t even look at the site to note that I was long gone. What then ensues is my spending several e mails just trying to pay for my campsite. I didn’t just want to email my credit card info for security reasons. Finally, after hearing that the owner was “out for a few days,” I’m able to pay via Venmo. ||Really, sleep in your car by the side of the road. You will save $33 and the only thing you are missing is a picnic table. It’s a terrible terrible camp site. And if you don’t want to sleep in your car, there are several other campsites...

Upon arrival, we realized that we had arrived from Yellowstone a day earlier than the start of our reservation. We were originally going to find a dispersed campsite until the start of our reservation, however Matt was quick to help us out and allowed us to stay in one of their cabins for a night. The tent site that we moved to was absolutely gorgeous and we got an amazing view of the river and the sunset over the mountains every night.
Matt knew a lot about GNP and gave us some great recommendations for what to do in the park. We took his advice and hiked Grinnell Glacier and it ended up being our favorite hike on our trip.
The campground is very well kept, and we loved the nature trail around the grounds that had information about Montana flora and fauna. The location is convenient for accessing both the Many Glacier area of the park and the St Mary’s entrance of the Going to the Sun Road.
Overall was a wonderful experience and we’d love to be...
Read moreWhat an awesome camp ground. It is located less than a mile from the St Mary's entrance of Glacier, so it is ideal for those wanting to get an early start and late evenings in the park. But what stood out to us was the great quality of this campground, and more importantly, the hospitality of the owners Matt and Veronica. They we so accommodating, especially when we had some last minute itinerary changes. We were fortunate to snag what we considered the most scenic camp site on the grounds and got to watch the sun set over the river and mountains each night. A pair of friends with us got to enjoy the cabins one night as well, which they said was the perfect break they needed after several days of long hikes. It was great being able to cool off with a swim in the river each day. The campground itself was clean and all other camp guests were friendly and seemed to thoroughly enjoy the space as well. Cant say enough about this campground. It is undoubtedly the best way to camp Glacier. We are certainly already looking forward to future trips to Montana and staying once again at Divide...
