This little cafe is just north of the turn off for Going-to-the-Sun road in the St Mary’s entrance for Glacier NP. A little unassuming and just the kind of place you need coming off a long day exploring or sitting in the car. Just a pull-off from US Hwy 89 heading north. We stopped because we saw the “world’s best pie” sign but stayed for the burgers. We didn’t even know about the burgers until we went inside and smelled them. Mmmmmm We ordered inside but chose to sit outside at one of the picnic tables in the fresh air. The interior has tables and seating but they were occupied and the cooking smell (delicious but..) kinda hangs around. We ordered burgers, fries some blackberry pie and a shake. It took about 30 minutes but don’t ever let that stop you. Good food takes time. The burgers- suffice it to say we soaked into them as soon as they were un wrapped. I almost forgot to get the pic, they were so good-looking. There is a brioche bun, lightly toasted filled with maybe a 1/3 lb hefty meat patty which is layered between fresh, crunchy romaine lettuce and big slices of tomatoes. Also pickles. The meat was juicy and tasty with an excellent mouth feel. The tomatoes added a layer of sweet and the crunch was from the fresh lettuce. I usually like to put fried on top of my burger but I didn’t have to with this one. It was enough in itself. A very, very good burger. Fries were good too, nothing over the top. Fresh and crisp on outside with good potato flavor. The milkshake was house made and on the sweet side for me but hey- it’s a shake. The blackberry pie looked very vey appetizing but after the burger there was no room for it. We ate it later that evening at a campsite. The crust was a little older by then but the filling retained that summery, blackberry taste and wasn’t overly sweet. It went down super well with a coffee. I do recommend ordering.
The place had a wheelchair ramp and clean bathrooms in the back building. I recommend a stop here if you’re on the East side...
Read moreOriginally, we wanted pizza. We saw the place on the other side of this plaza, Rising Sun Pizza. They were busy at about 7 pm, but there were tables. No one greeted us but saw us walk in and staff walked by us several times. Before we decided to go to the Park Cafe, the line waiting was growing significantly behind us and no one had said anything yet.
We walked down to the Park Cafe. They were busy, but not as busy as the other place. What was nice, before I could get the door shut behind me, I heard a male welcoming us. He was cheerful.
We were brought menus and decided to try the Huckleberry Pizza. It has chicken, bacon, and a "huck sauce". We were told it resembled a BBQ sauce.
There was a wait for the fresh pizza to be cooked. We sat outside after they invited our dogs to hang with us at a picnic table. They even offered, if we chose to wait in the van, to bring the pizza out to us.
We went to get the dogs and sat at a picnic table. We were very glad we chose this place. The pizza was absolutely delicious! It came out piping hot and looking yummy. The sauce was a sweet and tangy BBQ sauce. We could see the Huckleberries throughout.
The crust was not thin, but it was satisfyingly crispy and delicious as well.
We ordered a 16 inch. It had 8 large slices. We were full after 2 each. Probably could have stopped at 1 and a 1/2.
I saw a burger someone had ordered, it looked good too!
We are definitely happy to have not been acknowledged at the first place we stopped. Things happen for a reason, this was to be treated great and fed a hot and...
Read moreMyself, my wife and my parents stopped here to get an early lunch, the menu looked good, and home made pies and milkshakes appealed to us. We were seated on the deck outside, and placed our order. The waitress was inattentive and didn't take our order accurately, we were brought an extra drink which we didn't order, my wife has wheat and lactose allergies and we explained this to her, then double checked before the order arrived that there wouldn't be any cheese on her meal, the meal arrived with cheese on it !!!! we explained the issue once again and the meal was taken to be remade, when it was brought back out ,after enough time for the rest of us to have finished our meals, the meat was practically raw in the centre and the salad etc still had cheese stuck to it !!! when my father complained to the "manager" he was told they would gladly remake the meal, but by then we were fed up with the place and my wife had lost her appetite after biting into an uncooked piece of meat. This was the only offer made to us, so we asked for the bill. In fact when the bill came the waitress informed us they weren't charging us for the meal my wife had been unable to eat !!! We were on the last day of our vacation to the Glacier area, and prior to this had had nothing but fantastic service and food, what a shame and a disappointment on our final meal to have this experience. All this said the berry pie my mother had was good and the milkshake I had was very good, the service however was terrible, and the rest of our meal was at...
