I’ve been a longterm patron of the Blue Dolphin Inn, which is one of my all time favorite places. Unfortunately I have to say that they are just not doing a good job in the time of coronavirus, and the customer service has really gone downhill since my last stay (over a year ago). While the location can’t be beat, I do expect decent customer service for a four star hotel charging upwards of $200/night in the dead end of winter. We initially arrived and were completely ignored by the receptionist who got up and left her desk to check on a customer’s bath faucet not working (instead of at least greeting us and saying I’ll be right with you, or quickly checking us in). Not a big deal but again, strange for a four star hotel. We were informed they were also no longer serving their hot picnic breakfast due to COVID which was a big disappointment as it’s a big part of the reason I choose their hotel over others on Moonstone Beach. They proceeded to forget to bring us even the cold array of a “continental breakfast” the next morning, and our phone was broken so we couldn’t even call the front desk. There is no cell service there and the WiFi is so bad we couldn’t even make a phone call. The next door neighbors moved in that night and were super loud, and stole our patio chairs the next mourning. When we asked for a slightly later checkout, we were denied because apparently it was more important that the new guests check in early than we get an extra half hour to pack. I’ve never experienced such an array of small but irritating inconveniences at this hotel before and for the price, I will not be back. I’m sorry for it too because this was a fun little romantic place for my partner and me. But just too...
Read moreWe stayed at the Blue Dolphin Inn for the first time way back in the 1990's. We've stayed at the Blue Dolphin Inn probably 10 or 12 times since then, although we have also stayed in many of the other places along Moonstone Drive. We just spent five nights in Estero Bay at the Blue Dolphin Inn. The stay was almost magical. Estero Bay is one of three rooms that share the huge patio at the front of the property. We've spent hours every day on that patio, watching people, pets, traffic as well as seagulls and pelicans while soaking in the salt air and listening to the sound of the surf. I highly recommend the Blue Dolphin Inn.||We were greeted by Jack who is very customer-service oriented as well as friendly. Then we had Jill for a couple of days. Jill has worked here for as long as I can remember. I always find it comforting when Jill is in the Front Office. She is delightful and professional.||We're at that age now where we're not going to be able to do much more traveling; our bodies are worn out. So we wanted to spend what might be our last visit to Cambria at the Blue Dolphin Inn. Unfortunately, it's probably the end of an era for us but treat yourself to a stay at the lovely, well-situated Blue Dolphin Inn. I think you'll love it as much as we have over the years.||Management: You've got a real keeper in Jill. She has represented you well over...
Read moreWe were so happy with this hotel for our 25th anniversary. The room was lovely, and the proximity to the beach was perfect. We loved sitting at our window, people watching as we ate our breakfast. The staff were all very friendly. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was very nice. Everything was clean. We had a king room with a view. There were robes in the closet, binoculars on the fireplace mantle, a fridge, and a small microwave. A Kurig coffee maker, and it came with breakfast. ||Our only complaint was that the breakfast looked as if they've had to scale back from what I had seen offered from past reviews. It was basically a choice of breakfast burrito or yogurt parfait with a small cup of orange juice. We figured out that splitting the burrito and sharing the yogurt worked out best for us. My husband is a bit picky about coffee, so he bought some other K-cups to use. They provided Kirkland (Costco) brand and creamer in the fridge. ||Otherwise, we'd DEFINITELY return to Moonstone Beach and the Blue Dolphin Inn again! It's a two hour drive from Santa Barbara, 45 minutes from San Luis Obispo, but only 10 minutes to Hearst Castle (a MUST SEE!) and the elephant seals at San Simeon. And YES!!! I found "moonstones" (white agates) on the beach right in front of the hotel!! Perfect 25th Anniversary trip. I miss it...
