Stay Away Unless You Enjoy Hassle and Missing Basics at FogCatcher Inn, Cambria|A recent stay at the FogCatcher Inn in Cambria, supposedly a relaxing getaway, turned into an exercise in frustration due to inconvenient policies and a lack of basic amenities. While the coastal location has its appeal, the operational shortcomings significantly marred the experience.||Most notably, the housekeeping policy is bafflingly inconvenient. Guests are required to provide a full day's notice to have their room serviced. This rigid approach is impractical for travelers who may not plan their needs that far in advance or who expect a standard level of service for the price paid. It creates an unnecessary hurdle to maintaining a comfortable and clean room during your stay.||Adding to the disappointment, the advertised "free WiFi" was non-functional throughout the visit. In an age where internet access is a near-essential utility for planning, communication, and entertainment, this was a major letdown. This sentiment appears to be shared by other guests, with reports of unreliable or entirely non-working internet being a recurring issue at this establishment.||Furthermore, the room lacked a basic provision: cups. Whether for a simple glass of water or a morning coffee, this oversight is an unacceptable inconvenience, forcing guests to make their own arrangements for something that should be a standard in-room amenity. One guest review even noted the specific absence of drinking cups, while another recounted a long wait for wine glasses, ultimately resorting to plastic room cups.||While the FogCatcher Inn might boast a decent location, the frustrating housekeeping rules, coupled with the failure to provide working internet and even the simplest of amenities like cups, makes it an establishment to avoid. Potential guests should be wary and consider whether these significant drawbacks are worth the picturesque views. There are likely other accommodations in the Cambria area that better understand and cater to fundamental guest needs and...
Read moreSo disappointed with our recent stay. We were here many years ago and really enjoyed our visit but things have gone downhill. My husband called making our reservations and specifically asked for a room with a patio. We were assured we would get one. Unfortunately, when we arrived, we didn’t get one - there are only 2 rooms with patio and they were booked. Ok, we resigned ourselves to this. We were assigned room 101, which does face the ocean. However when you look out the bedroom window, all you see are sand bags (?) and a ladder on the ground. All the tabletop surfaces had dust on them, along with the bedroom heating vent.
We received a text before our arrival asking if we wanted daily housekeeping and we responded that we did. They confirmed we would get daily service. When we checked in we again verified we would get daily service. The staff said they only did housekeeping every 3 days. We told them we had requested daily and she noted it. The room did get serviced. When we left for day the 2nd day, we made sure to stop by the front desk letting them know they could clean. We returned around 4 pm and the room wasn’t cleaned. Front desk says the only note they had was to clean yesterday. Housekeeping had already left so we had to lug back fresh towels, more coffee, empty trash.
I know we sound picky but we encountered another guest and she said she was a frequent guest here and service has gone down. Said her room didn’t look vacuumed- found a used bandage on the floor.
The living room couch needs to be replaced - the seat cushions are flat and uncomfortable.
On the plus side, the bed was fine and the...
Read moreFAMILY SUITE is not what is pictured on their website. Or I should say that part of it is correct - there is NO upstairs balcony as seen in the Family Suite picture. It is 100% photoshopped, which I find to be shady and unethical! Besides that:
The comfort level was a 4 on a scale of 1-10 There is no A/C...which I specifically asked about when I booked the room and was told "YES, we have A/C"! Trying to sleep in a hot room - in July - with 2 toddlers - was miserable. It didn't matter how many windows we had open. And the attitude we got from the front desk when we asked about A/C was, "this is the coast, we don't need A/C". It was an "Us vs. You" mentality coming from them. Since when did I need to apologize for being a tourist on vacation?! We drove our RV and parked it on the street across from the Fog Catcher (it's large and their parking lot is tiny) The front desk clerk told us we should move it before a hotel guest called the Sheriff because their ocean view is blocked. WHAT? First of all, it's not illegal to block someone's view. 2nd, I believe a hotel guest would complain to the front desk clerk before thinking about calling the Sheriff.....The clerk could then contact us directly so that we could move our RV. But clearly the clerk would have just told the guest to call the Sheriff (yes I'm assuming based on the obvious poor character of said clerk) BUT, my husband moved the RV to be nice - moved it to a location that the hotel clerk recommended - and we woke up to a parking ticket the next morning. Yay! =-|
Fog Catcher, you get 2 stars for being on the beach and having a good morning breakfast...
