Moonstone Beach in lovely Cambria, where Pine and Juniper trees frame the sea views, is the perfect place to get away for one of those long 3 day weekends. This is a quiet, lovely beach-side town, complete with its own wooden boardwalk that's great for scenic walks by the sea. I saw a dew-coated spider web early one morning when my wife and I strolled here.
Moonstone Beach Bar & Grill serves up heavenly seafood, like fried oysters and chips for lunch, or try the fresh fish of the day, succulent scallops, or crab legs for dinner. They carry many of Paso Robles finest wines, so when weather permits, I recommend ordering a glass while dining out on their beautiful patio. The patio is closed off with a clear plexi-glass surround, so you're afforded mesmerizing ocean views. Just watch out for those thieving little black birds, should you step away from your table for even a second!
Just south of Moonstone Beach, on Highway 1, exit Ardath Drive and head beachward, as this small road meanders downhill to the coast. The beach cottages lining Ardath Drive have the ideal climate for growing flowers, so you'll see some colorful landscaping in these front yards as you pass. Near the beach, you'll find several small parking areas, one right by a set of stairs down to a tidal area. I once found a small abalone moving so slowly on a tide pool bottom here. I feel sorry for this species of shellfish, as it was so tasty, that we nearly wiped them out in...
Read moreThe beach is absolutely stunning as was the water! The rocks are perfect for rock hounds and treasure hunters alike! However, I want to say, there has to have been a ship that ran ground recently or something because there was oil throughout the rocks as well as in the sand (you couldnt see it) but the smell was strong. I was barefoot and that's when I noticed all of the oil stuck to the bottom of my feet. Made it a challenge to clean off.
BUT BUT BUT the park was cool and the squirrels were AWESOME! I know the sign said don't feed them, but she was pregnant(not pictured) and kept saying "please ma'am, can I have a crumb".
The bathrooms are clean and stocked with TP. Clean. Will stop again but won't likely go down...
Read moreMy experience at Moonstone Beach did not live up to the expectations set by my prior research. I embarked on a hike along the city-established path, but unfortunately, portions of it were under construction, forcing me to start halfway. The overall condition of the trail was disappointing, as it seemed to lack proper maintenance. It appeared that the city was facing financial constraints, preventing them from allocating sufficient funds for the upkeep of the trail. There was a notable absence of landscaping efforts and the development of areas to enhance the experience for travelers. If I were a local resident, I would consider filing complaints with the city personnel regarding...
