My husband and I stayed in the handicapped accessible room for 3 nights. The room itself is at the very back corner of the complex. The large window overlooks the empty field and trees next door with a peek-a-boo view of the ocean. There was a sturdy table next to the window with easily moved chairs to enjoy the beautiful view. The bathroom was perfect for my husband, who is in a power wheelchair - large roll in shower with built-in fold down bench, easily reached shower controls, and shower soap/shampoo dispenser. There was plenty of room for my husband to move around the room. Nice to have refridgerator, microwave, coffee/tea Keurig maker. Grounds are all easily accessible for a wheelchair, plus the pool and spa both have ADA lifts (although we did not use them.) The boardwalk (wheelchair accessible) is right across from the motel, plus there is an excellent restaurant (lunch and dinner only) a couple of doors down. Lovely grounds with chairs, tables, fire pit, games. Breakfast room was small with the regular choices of breads, muffins, juice/coffee/water, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, and a pancake machine.|Although our room overall was great, the bed was SO soft that if was difficult for my husband, who is mobility impaired, to get into, turn over, and get out of bed. The sink in the bathroom was great, but the lighted mirror over it is hung too high for someone in a chair -my husband could not see himself in it. Other things not really ADA: the towel rack above the toilet is too high for someone in a chair to reach the towels, the air conditioner controls can only be reached by someone who is standing, and the coffee machine is too high for someone in a chair to reach. The handicapped parking is at the front of the motel next to the office - our room was quite a distance away. (A second handicapped parking is next to the breakfast room, but still a long way.) The breakfast room is too small for a large wheelchair, especially with lots of people in it, but I picked up some items and brought them back...
Read moreThis motel has me feeling a little tricked. When I booked this using Hotwire, I only had two search terms and those were a pool and breakfast included. I could deal with the breakfast being only coffee and a few pastries and apples, no juice or tea or anything like real milk even, but it's the pool that has really got this the low rating.
We are on a road trip from Everett, Washington to now Cambria, California, and this is the smallest and most expensive hotel we've stayed in yet. It has a very strange layout of the room with a lot of wasted space in one strange corner, so we found it difficult to navigate as four people. Plus the bathroom barely has one person able to stand in it at a time. However, The styling is cute, and the room is quite clean. Therefore, I'll call this part neutral.
Because a section of the Pacific Coast Highway was closed, we had to come a different route and didn't derive till 9:07 pm This is considered late check-in, so we had to double back to another hotel to get checked in. There is no one on site at the Castle Inn motel from whatever time in the evening until 7:30 a.m. when they open the office for breakfast.
The pool is under construction, clearly not going to be ready anytime soon. It's unclear why the owners have not removed the inclusion of a pool in their advertisements. If they are doing this intentionally, they are dishonest in their attempt to attract customers, and I am very disappointed we fell for it and drove from San Francisco to here to enjoy their outdoor pool that does not exist. If this oversight is unintentional, the owners will hopefully listen to reviews and apologize accordingly.
I'm torn in what review to give this place as a star rating, because if the pool had been working, we might have been able to let the other stuff go, except maybe my daughter who doesn't eat muffins and therefore is very hungry right now, but I have a thing about justice...

My friends and I stayed here for a girls' trip and we were satisfied with the motel. Located right across from the boardwalk of Moonstone Beach, you can literally step outside, cross the street, and set foot on the boardwalk.
We occupied a room on the second floor, so be mindful when booking if anyone in your group has a physical disability that makes stairs hard to climb. If that is the case, make sure to ask for the lower floor. Also when booking, the place never sent us a confirmation email, but thank goodness we didn't have any issues with staff locating our lodging reservations.
The room we had was clean for the most part, except one area of the bed looked like it had coffee stains. The one weird thing about the design too is the walkway/hallway outside. You can see directly into the rooms if the windows are drawn, since anyone walking is basically going to walk past your window.
However, we had no issue with noise the day we went, and overall, we were glad that the room was clean, and this place was conveniently located to the beach. There is also a small fridge and microwave in the room. We also appreciated that the bathroom was equipped with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and a blow dryer. They also have a Keurig machine, coffee pods, sugar, and tea packets for use.
The motel is also about 10 min. away from Hearst Castle for anyone considering to visit there too. This was a good place to stay for...
