Our family had the most amazing stay at the Hyatt Regency Cambridge!!! A little staycation in the city we love so much, just to get out of the heat and switch it up a bit. Kayla was the first smiling face I encountered (under her mask of course) I had made reservations through AAA.com for a room with a balcony view and 2 beds... unfortunately that type of room was not an option and the reservation had never gone through, so Kayla worked quickly to create me a new reservation with a queen and a pull out and a balcony with the aaa discount, free parking and hyatt rewards points. I asked for a room on a high floor and she gave us the best available which was the second to highest floor. The lobby was beautiful and all the signs were helpful and clearly marked. All covid precautions had us feeling safe and comfortable. The kids loved the cool elevator.
Our room was amazing!! The view was untouchable and looked like a postcard. We had full views of the Charles and we were facing east so we had the most gorgeous view of the Pru, John Hancock, even Fenway and the Citgo sign. I spent a whole night hyperlapsing the sunset from the west side... it was breathtaking And the balcony!!! The balcony was like an extra room!! Square table 4 chairs and so much room! No fears of falling with the littles as the balcony below is set up like staircases. You've seen it from storrow, I've always been fascinated with the shape of this hotel since I was little :)
Overall any issue we had was taken care of promptly and with the best customer service. They had a little breakfast set up in the morning (please note we honestly didn't think it cost anything how the flyers were worded, however the gentleman who assisted us was so kind and the system was down sooo ;) the prices were reasonable though and the Fresh squeezed orange juice was amazing! We were so in love we extended the room for an extra night which was awesome, went to the aquarium the next day, walked the city, the Rose Kennedy Greenway.
The food around there is the best too! I mean Cambridge is a food mecca. We ordered 3 times from cambridge pizza and they were awesome! We tried Armandos but they weren't delivering:( So fast and contactless drop-off in the hotel lobby :) Food was awesome, we ordered a few other places too, but cambridge pizza was so consistent, fast and delicious.
We did wake up our checkout morning to some banging pipes and than we found we had no water :/ which put a damper on the morning, but Kayla and her team promptly addressed our concerns. We were told as soon as we called down we would be given a room to shower and get ready in and they also let us have a super extended check out. We got a discounted rate for the inconvenience and enjoyed they day taking our time to pack and ordered more pizza before we left. Alicia I believe was the manager who called the room to help us out cause at first the idea of going to another room to brush our teeth and everything was not ideal but she assured us they would do what they could and they did. Kayla arrived promptly to the door with a key and we scurried over to another room got prepped and went back to our room, we left around 4 and had the greatest time. Kayla went above and beyond and was so kind to us, we honestly had the best time and we will definitely be back!! Thank you for an...
Read moreWhen looking to balance location, affordability, and safety in Boston we decided on The Hyatt Regency Cambridge. I felt good after booking to hear my father stayed here many time while on business and raved about the hotel. I agree with and will reiterate many of the other reviews while giving our particular experience.
Check-In was quick and efficient while standing in the wonderful atrium lobby. We had requested and reiterated wanting a roll away bed for our 3 year old and that was accommodated and worked just as we hoped at the foot of our King Bed. Initially, I was not thrilled about the $25 charge but my wife was insistent she wanted him to have his own bed. I was extremely pleased when this charge did NOT appear on the final bill, when people do the right thing it always pleases me and I like to recognize it.
Our room was nice and clean and had an oversized TV that delighted my son though we wouldn’t be in the room all that much. We had plenty of storage for our stroller and luggage and his car seat. (Note: We ditched our car because of the cost of parking.) We are also very comfortable with using rapid transit.
With that said, we did utilize the shuttle system provided by the hotel. I didn’t see many reviews commenting on this so I will. The shuttle was very helpful for our family, it was simply a hotel conversion van that ran you to the closes T stop (subway / rapid transit). Coming from Chicago, we have no problem utilizing buses and trains and it is a huge cost savings and fun for the kids. The drop off is a safe location outside the T stop, next hotels and MIT. The shuttle ran on time and was very popular. Take a picture in the lobby of the Bus Schedule so you can time your departure and return so you never second guess yourself or get stuck at the stop.
Others commented and as will I about the pool being a great amenity but not in a conventional manner. It is definitely a journey to get to and find the pool in the adjacent building. (You never need to go outside.) It is a long walk but an adventure. It is located in a health club that can be utilized by the public as well. The pool is very much Health Club Swimming Pool. It is a full 25 yard lap pool with 3 lap lanes. 1 was for families to splash and play while the other 2 were strictly for swimmers. If you are a true swimmer, you have a place to actually swim laps, if you are a family, there is plenty of space to roam in the extra wide lanes and all shallow pool. It’s not super warm because it is not designed for families like most hotel pools but it does get the job done and we enjoyed.
We did go to Fenway and tried to be savvy and take the bus…DO NOT DO THIS. The cost savings is not worth it, take a taxi or ride share. The park is not far (too far to walk) and the bus was just a waste of time and I would have been more than happy to drop a few bucks to not deal with that. My “We Are Going to Fenway” buzz was nearly killed.
We did not utilizes any of the dining experiences but it all looked lovely.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel to anyone including families. We were able to save money while booking online. The location in proximity to the city center area was not an issue, and the location and surrounding areas was very safe. The hotel was clean and lovely and had great views. We would...
Read moreI was at this hotel for a little over 2 weeks along with several coworkers and we will be going back in September. The view is magnificent and the service outstanding, but the hotel is dated so doesn't exude luxury like some of the other 4 star Cambridge hotel.
The Pros: The view of the river and cityscape is unapparelled! I slept with my blinds open every night to enjoy the lights of the city. The staff was very friendly and helpful, from the front desk, to the bartenders and housekeeping staff, I felt that everyone went out of their way to ensure we were having a good stay. The room was always cleaned and when I had stained the pillow with MY make-up the cases were changed that next morning. Any towels I left on the floor were also replaced that same day. Finally the food in the restaurant was good but the menu is limited menu, after 2+ weeks I was ready for something different. Many people have commented on the $20 per night destination fee, which I felt was clearly stated on the website. The fee includes 2 bottles of water a day, $10 menu credit in their restaurant plus the free use of the Hotel Shuttle that will take you almost anywhere in Cambridge and pick you up in the same location.
Cons: The rooms are dated and in need of a refresh plus I had a room with a weird stall shower that my boyfriend could barely stand in (he's 6ft tall) but the rest of the team said their showers were normal, so must be certain rooms. Also the pillows are not hypoallergenic (with no options for people with allergies which I have come to expect from 4 star hotels) so I will be bringing my own next trip. The room service is NOT room services, it is a food delivery service just like you would get from door dash that comes in a bag with a paper thin napkin. That said, the food was good and very hot, they forgot something in my order one morning and the front desk applied a discount due to inconvenience.
If you look at the pros and cons, I think this is a great hotel as long as you understand that...
