Catawissa Railroad and Caboose Rentals — Hotel in Catawissa

It is a cool, interesting place. Honestly, we were not expecting much... Thought it would be a bit of a run down place that wasn't fancy but was really cool to tell my daughter we were staying in a choochoo train. It is close to knoebels and was the only thing available. Everything would have been fine if the place was simply clean. There were dirty linens piled in the corner and when I went to move them, there was dirty socks and a fruit punch bottle underneath them. Then when I saw a shorted cigarette on the floor, I was grossed out. Bugs and cobwebs I can get over but this place didn't even look like anyone attempted to clean it. I have stayed in some shady places before and I can look past most things but this was too much for me... We packed of the family and left the following morning. Our money was refunded with out question. Walt, you seem like a nice guy and you have a cool idea here. It could use some updating but at a minimum you obviously need to clean the place. We stayed in the NYC car because I wanted the indoor bathroom and shower. We did check out the bathhouse as well. Everything was very nice. Don't expect a 5 star hotel! You are mainly there for the experience. The car was clean and we had a very nice little kitchen area. There is only a small fridge so don't bring a lot of freezer items. There is no inside lock on the main door. You can lock it when you go somewhere by the padlock on the outside. Stayed in two cabooses on a family trip. Had to ask to change because one car smelled HORRIBLE. Two cars we ended up in were in disrepair - wood steps had rotted, paint peeling and rusted, mattresses very old. Linens were old and worn. Ended up buying fresh sheets from a dollar general to sleep on. I expected the place to be more kid-friendly but there was no swingset or anything for the kids to play on and the cars are very narrow, so they couldn't play inside.
