Unfortunately, for whatever reason, pandemic, etc., this place is in tremendous need of some major TLC. Don’t get me wrong, there are some great people working here and the rooms are still in decent shape but it is evident that they are very short staffed.
The employees are very nice. Anthony, the manager, and Steve at the front desk are both great. Lupe in the kitchen is on top of things. She’s not afraid to chase off people who try to bring dogs into the kitchen or the nasty folks who grab food without using serving utensils which are in clear view. She puts out some of the better quality hotel foods I’ve had. I clean my own room just because I like things done a certain way but, Maria, the housekeeper on our floor, never failed to provide us with everything we needed during our long stay.
Now, unfortunately, for the bad. The floor we were on had filthy common areas. Garbage and crumbs all over the place. When we stayed at the Homewood Suites in SLC, housekeeping was top-notch and they had a fantastic system in place. If I needed something, all I had to do was leave my towels or empty items by my door outside and they would pick up what I had. Based on what they picked up, they would leave new, fresh items, contained inside a new garbage bag, and tie it to the door handle outside of my room. I never had to chase a cart or visit the front desk for any supplies.
I called housekeeping and got a voice recording from what sounded like “Anna,” the executive housekeeper. I left a message informing “Anna” about the mess in the common areas and asked for a return call so that I could tell her about the wonderful method used by the hotel in SLC. She never returned my call.
Front desk didn’t listen either. I was informed they are extremely short-staffed and the GM is a dual general manager. I was also informed that the executive housekeeper is “Emma,” not Anna. They told me to either call or visit the front desk if I need anything. I tried to explain the idea but it fell on deaf ears. Great! Just what I was trying to avoid. But thanks for listening!
The fitness center has two elliptical machines, three treadmills, a stationary bike, most of a barbell set, a couple of weight benches, some yoga mats, a stretch machine, etc. Our stay lasted about 8 weeks. During the entire stay, none of the treadmills worked. When I inquired as to when they might be fixed, there was a definite, “We don’t know. They need parts.” Okay, thank goodness for my Planet Fitness membership. NOTE: I just went down to take pics and now that we are leaving, one of the treadmills has actually been repaired! Great for future guests but does nothing for me now. See pics.
There are two floors with washers and dryers. Of the three washers and four dryers on the fourth floor, only two washers and two dryers are operational. Of the two sets on the second floor, two washers and one dryer are operational. See pics. Again, these remained broken from the time we checked in until the time we left. Just lousy, especially when you have rude guests who believe the world revolves around them and their laundry and they decide to leave their stuff behind for hours while others wait. You know who you are. Set a timer on your cell phone and be responsible or I can be rude too. Look for your clothes in a nearby trash bin.
The common area on our floor eventually got swept, once. As of this writing, there is a water bottle cap on the floor, just outside of the elevator. Been there about a week. Guess they’re waiting for the pile of crumbs and trash to accumulate before they go to all the trouble of cleaning it up again. The entire feel of the place was completely unlike Homewood Suites in SLC which said, “Welcome to your home away from home.” This place says, “UGH! We can’t wait until you leave! And hurry!”
My hope is that this place will hire some more quality individuals and that it can receive the TLC it desperately needs. I will miss Chandler but I look forward to leaving this hotel. Should we ever return, we will look for a different long-term stay hotel...
Read moreThe hotel was fully booked when I stayed there because of spring training fans. Fortunately no one was rowdy. The front desk staff is very friendly and nice. They provide guests with two bottles of water and microwavable popcorn. I can't eat popcorn so they let me choose something else from their little shop which I appreciated. The hotel lobby and dining area are clean. Unfortunately the curtains in the room were not. They were covered in thick dust as was the wooden valance. Because of that I had to stand on the bed and wipe the wooden valance with a wet washcloth. Not the safest way to dust and I shouldn't have had to but I couldn't sleep in the room with so much dust and wanted to take care of it quickly. Also the curtains in the bedroom were broken as there were three clips that had nothing to hook to and it just hung down. I had to use a hair clip to secure them and have privacy. The curtains are very outdated and don't work well meaning they don't close together properly. Suggest they do an overhaul and switch to someting more modern and less dusty since the housekeeping staff isn't dusting them.
There were no pans but rather pots with lids and the ones in my room were dirty but I was able to clean them with soapy water. The knives were very dull but they did have small plates, a small cutting board, silverware, cups and small mugs. They also had a couple of paper cups for hot coffee or tea. There is a full size refrigerator and a two burner electric stove as well as a powerful microwave.
The bathroom was a good size and had not only drawers but a couple of cabinets with shelves which was convenient. The shower and toilet room was separate which was nice and there was a tub. Floor had modern tile. The shower faucet seemed to work well when it shower mode but not while in tub mode. Always had hot water.
The living room had a separate chair, a pull out couch, and a table with plush bench for additional seating. There was a TV in the living room and bedroom. A desk with chair and awesome modern plugs for phones and regular outlets. The lamp had two outlets. That same lamp was stained in several areas.
The bed was very comfortable and my room was next to the guest laundry so no noise on one side of me at all after 9:00 p.m. Alas, the other side was attached to another room and there is no sound insulation between rooms so I could hear them talking and I presume they could hear my room as well. The lamp in the bedroom also had an outlet as well as USB plug. Very handy for cell phones. And the last two nights of my stay I heard the utility room above me and something dripping. Not sure if it was the ac unit dripping.
Breakfast had meat options like sausage, eggs, bread, canned fruit, fresh blueberries, a waffle maker, cereal and milk. They also have white rice at breakfast and at social hour Monday through Thursday. Other than that there wasn't much I could have as I cannot eat gluten, meat or dairy.
The gym has three treadmills, two ellipticals, a couple of mats, two benches and dumbbells, as well as a Swiss ball, stretching device and weighted medicine balls. The TV wouldn't turn on with the remote.
There is free parking for Homewood Suites and the Hampton Inn as they share one parking lot. There are no safes in the rooms which was odd and unusual for hotels nowadays. However, theft hasn't been an issue there fortunately. To play it safe I'd recommend using a suitcase with a lock.
The hotel also has an outdoor pool, an outdoor basketball court and seating with tables. Most hotels with kitchenettes don't have that which was nice. Maids only come for a full clean once every five days. They don't do anything on the weekends unless requested. I appreciated the privacy. And I'm sure that if someone needed something like extra towels they would have been happy to accommodate. Overall it was a...
Read moreThis is not a business hotel, it caters to whoever wants to stay there and if they have a big and noisy group/sports team, too bad for you. We actually were at this hotel for a longer stay. We had stayed before with some success so we had good expectations. The first part of the stay was quite nice, they have a nice pool and the rooms seemed good. Did think it was odd that they literally turned out the lights in the dining area at 8pm a couple of times, since you had to walk through the darkened room to get to the elevator.
Then, after over a week of peace and quiet, Thursday night came. At midnight we could hear people stomping around in the room above us. It really resonated through the ceiling, it was quite loud. We called down to the desk, who apologized and told us they had just arrived in the room and that they would talk to them. It has no effect. Evidently the construction of the hotel does not isolate heavy footsteps from the room above you!!! And it sounded like multiple people were just stomping back and forth above us.
This happens again on Friday night and again on Saturday night. Repeated calls to the front desk did nothing. I went down to talk to the person on duty, and found out that the hotel basically only has a lone young kid working at night, he said he'd asked them several times to quiet down and that they had just ignored him. He said he was trying to keep the group in the lobby more so they wouldn't bother the other guests as much.
Oh and they had moved in to the lobby, on the Saturday they had taken over much of the public areas of the hotel, they left their hockey gear on the front lawn of the hotel all Saturday afternoon, and set up their own buffet in the eating area/lobby, putting trays of food out on the tables so they could just hang out there, to the exclusion of all of the other guests.
So, the hotel rented out a lot of rooms to a AAA Canadian ice hockey team. Who were completely out of control, stayed up until 1 am every night, and ignored hotel staff. Lucky us. We checked out early and won't be back, as this clearly isn't a quiet hotel, even though they say they are. We also found out that there was only one manager on Sunday when we left that had to cover both the Homewood Suites AND the Hampton Inn next door... She was over helping in the kitchen at the Hampton Inn. Clearly they don't have adequate staffing at these hotels which added to the problems.
After this experience, I no longer trust this hotel to provide me with an acceptable...
