We were required to stay here while in town for a hockey tournament. 3 Teams from our organization stayed at this hotel. As a Marriott Bonvoy Rewards member and someone who travels a lot for work, I wasn't impressed with this hotel. For what we paid ($230/night + taxes/fees + $50/night incidental fee hold), I expected more. Areas for improvement included: When we first arrived, the front desk staff could not tell me what the "complimentary breakfast" included. They just said that it was whatever the travel company negotiated. I recommend that when a hotel knows that they have groups like this coming in, they should have this info readily available. The complimentary breakfast was a continental breakfast (i.e. cereal, stale muffins, juice, milk and coffee) plus scrambled eggs. The scrambled eggs were runny/watery and not good. Also, breakfast was only served from 7-9am - So for teams that had early games, they could not eat the complimentary breakfast and had to spend more money. I recommend including a more hearty breakfast (i.e. sausage, bacon, pancakes) for traveling sports team and have breakfast service from 6-9am. When we first got to our room and opened the door, it was apparent that the tile had not been cleaned. I had to ask the housekeeper that was a few doors down to come clean it. Unfortunately, she didn't speak English, so it made it difficult to communicate with her. Also, the water seal strip on the shower door was peeled 3/4 of the way off. I had to ask that maintenance be sent up to fix it. I recommend ensuring all staff speak English and that rooms are checked by a housekeeping supervisor prior to checking guests into the room. The beds were not comfortable. They felt worn out and like they needed to be replaced. Also, the feather pillows didn't provide any head/neck support. I recommend getting new mattresses and proving both feather and foam pillows on each bed so that the guest can choose the pillow that works best for them. There was only 1 microwave per floor in a common area. For $230/night I expect a microwave in each room. The hotel did not seem very youth team friendly. Our kids were yelled at for playing outside on the grass! If you don't want kids to play outside on grass, then don't accept youth teams at your hotel.
Positives of the hotel: Free Guest Laundry (washer and dryer) - bring your own detergent. Fridge and coffee maker in each room Good location - near food, shopping, and quick access to major roads. Free parking Ice/water machine...
Read moreWe did not have a great hotel visit here. In the end, the whole experience felt unnecessarily expensive for a mediocre stay.
The room was clean, and the bed was comfortable (not too firm, which is my preference). Too many other issues, however, made for a subpar experience.
After a long day, we opted to have some dinner at the hotel restaurant. While the staff was very friendly, my dinner was not good. It was a lot of money for a hot plate with lukewarm salmon and cold broccolini. Additionally, the dinner came with a cold quinoa salad filled with peppers, which I cannot stand. It was unfortunate for me that the menu did not note this, as I would have chosen differently just on that point. I ate the subpar salmon and vegetable because I was hungry, I was tired, and it was getting late to go elsewhere especially after spending a lot on this dinner. Our waitress offered another side dish but they were out of anything that sounded good to me. Because I was still hungry, my better half suggested I have some desert. So I ordered (and we paid for) tiramisu - again, a lot of money for a very small thing that tasted ok but nothing like tiramisu. Just a really disappointing and expensive experience.
Disappointment continued when we went back to our room. The room darkening curtains would not close completely, despite many, many attempts to adjust, cajole and prod them into submission. This meant that we were bathed in a blue glowing light during the night and greeted very early by the sun in our east-facing room.
The worst, however, was the bathroom door. It was a heavy glass sliding door that was incredibly difficult to move. I had to use two hands and all my weight to pull the thing closed. To my great chagrin, I could not get the door back open and was stuck in the bathroom. Thank goodness my better, and stronger, half was there - but if he had not been, I would have had a serious problem.
This was not an inexpensive hotel room, and perhaps my expectations were too high for the Marriott brand - but I did not leave the next morning feeling rested, relaxed, or that we received good value for...
Read moreThe property grounds and landscaping were beautiful, easily a top ten in appeal. If rating on looks alone, this would be a book well judged. However, once I went further, I would never return to this facility. We arrived at location at 3:30, only 30 minutes prior to the stated check-in. The front desk clerk was friendly upon arrival and quickly went to work on our check in. We quickly noticed the "trainee" moniker on her name tag and gave her much, much grace to the very lengthy process. Eventually, she struggled enough that she had to call the manage, Jacinta, to help. Upon arrival, Jacinta threw attitude to the trainee as if she was incompetent. Red Flag #1 - don't leave a trainee at the front desk by themselves and then be annoyed they ask for help. Jacinta informed us that the rooms were not ready and check in was at 4 pm. At this point, it was 3:45 pm. NOTE - Jacinta checked in a party of 5 while the trainee assisted us and made no such comment to these guests. We advised we would wait at the pool in turn, Jacinta replied, "great, we'll know where to find you at check-in" (in 15 mins). At 4:05, I returned inside to check the progress of rooms and according to Jacinta, "I was good luck and the rooms were cleared." Red Flag #2 - we expected a staff member would come to the pool to notify of room readiness as stated by the manager and Red Flag #3 - "luck" has nothing to do with a well maintained process. I indicated red flag #3 to Jacinta who replied, "I'm so sorry you had to wait those extra few minutes." So, lead staff management not only demonstrated her personal bias and micro-aggressions (quickly checked in a party of 5 white females and made 2 black females wait), she was condescending to her subordinate and patronizing to the guests. The rooms were decent, nothing special or unique. For a 4 pm check-in and 11 am check-out, not at all worth the money. The pool is much, MUCH smaller than it appears in pictures. overall, would not return...
