Oddly, got same room we had back in October last year-rm #128- and even though we reported it multiple times to multiple personnel, the door does not close. We were in a huge hurry and my vote to change rooms was overruled. 1. There is a gap I can fit my fingers in along frame where it should be flush with door frame. Not just one area, whole side doesn't fit, bent above and below lock. We reported it in October, two different times. This visit, we reported it again. Three different times, to three different staff. 2. To make things worse, upon checking into room, I used the onsite washer/dryer to wash a pair of jeans, black blouse and underwear. I had gotten change from front desk($2.50 for wash, $2.50 for dry) and even though had been told by house keeping on my way walking to front desk I could get complimentary detergent I was charged for it. No biggy, seemed fair. Until...When wash cycle was complete, I took out my clothes to find them covered in the white powdered laundry detergent, trash, sand, pieces of candy, wrappers, pieces of plastic of who knows what, and what we later discovered back at the room was not chocolate as we hoped embedded in the fabric of jeans and blouse and lace underwear, but to our horror was in fact dark lipstick, actually chunks of lipstick were embedded in my jeans, blouse and lace panties. And no, was not my lipstick, nor my candy, nor my unknown trash, and certainly not my sand. (besides I don't wear anything but pinks and checked pockets as I always do). Since we were going to dinner and this was my only pair of long pants had to wear crop pants and tank top; it was 43° that night ) I checked the dryer (to the right of washer) and it was filled with lint in basket and bin. I couldn't even drop another $2.50 to tumble some of the garbage off. I walked over to report it and file a claim to two different pleasant young black women front desk personnel. Absolutely NO APOLOGY offered. As if this was not a new complaint. I asked for my money back. Got it all except for $1 for detergent, which btw I only used a third of. Reported door to them both, again. Reported washer and dryer. Verified this was in fact the same room we had stayed in last visit. Back at room, checked online about removing stains, since didn't have necessary reagents let air dry and again waited for call from management. None came. At checkout I explained to another front desk personnel, a young brunette, blue eyes, sweetly apologized. Took my name, number and said I'd "hear from someone later". Still no response, call from anyone. I'll reach out to corporate to file claim and update this review with actions but am highly dissatisfied and disappointed to say the least. We have stayed at this hotel since moving from West Ashley 15 years ago. We thought the last stay was a weird fluke but staying in same room again 5 mo. later to find door still busted and unable to close properly, and now with ruined clothes from their washing machine I can say this establishment has fallen well below even moderate standards. Is a great location, beds were comfortable, pillows too. Breakfast not what used to be either but is okay. Good brands of items, decent coffee, very pleasant hostess, we've had her our last couple of stays. Anothercreason for our return quite frankly. utalso hats important to us. The room was dirty, carpet just plain nasty, blood on bedspread as well as just dirty with satins in general. Gross. I'll try to attach pix. I won't be staying there again nor anyone else in my family nor friends. Word of mouth, guys. Strongest form of marketing. I give kudos where warranted and seldom give...
Read moreWe stayed at Best Western Charleston Inn on January 12 room 107, Jan 19 room 101, Jan 25, and 26 room 110.
My daughter was getting weekly infusions from MUSC (Medical University of South Carolina). We stayed at the Sleep Inn next door on January 5 and decided that the Best Western right next door would be safer and cleaner place to stay. My daughter lives in Savannah and will continue appointments at MUSC for her condition.
The January 12 stay was the best in room 107. The breakfast was good and the room was quiet and clean. The Jan 19 stay was ok and breakfast was good but as I checked out I asked the manager a few questions and she was talking to someone who was sitting on the couch and acted like I interrupted her.
The stay on the 25and 26 was the worst room I have ever experienced. My daughter was ill from infusions and we could not complain or ask to be moved to another room because she needed to sleep and rest. We were at the hospital both days.
Conditions: There were not enough working outlets to plug in the coffee maker, a lamp, or the refrigerator. There was a power strip that the TV was plugged into but it was behind the large TV table and could not be reached without crawling behind the furniture. There was only one chair at the small table (I paid for two of us) There was another desk chair at the desk with arms that were too big and the arms were stuck under the desk so you couldnât sit in it or pull it out. Did I mention we did not have a refrigerator to use?
There was only one small bottle of shampoo and one small conditioner (for two people) . I had asked ahead of time for enough shampoo for two guests as the week before we were short of these items. I went to the desk and asked for more shampoo but it was given reluctantly so I didnât bother to ask for conditioner. The bathroom shower head was only partially working and could not be turned for a more full complete spray. At breakfast the woman working assigned to that area was very rude. She was wiping down chairs and tables repeatedly right next to us so that we could not enjoy our meal. She was in the way to get coffee and continued to wipe down and not apologize or move out of the way.
On Friday there was commotion outside our door as the guest (room right next door to us) could not get back in her room. The card would not reopen her door when she came back from breakfast. She had to leave for an appointment and her purse and phone were still in the room. A maintenance man was there but he did not speak English . When we arrived back from the hospital that afternoon the door lock still had not been fixed and another man was working on it.
I did receive the $100 gift card for staying at least 3 nights (within the time period for the promotion) to use at a Best Western and I thank you for that. My daughter will continue to need medical treatments in Charleston but we will not use the card there. We will use the card in Savannah.
I hope that this information will help you make some major changes at the Best Western Charleston Inn. Management is flawed to say the...
Read moreI should have known to cancel my reservation after I contacted Best Western to add a night to my current reservation. The rate was higher which was fine, rates increase. But the agent was going to add an additional night and increase my rate for the 3 nights that were already confirmed. She was unable to add a night at a higher rate while keeping my original reservation. I hung up with the agent, kept my current reservation and booked 1 night at the higher rate. Then of course, I received a call in the middle of my last day to stop by the front desk so they could swipe my credit card again for my last night. And this was after I stopped by the front desk to have my keys updated, couldn't they have mentioned it then? On our 3rd night there I went to get dressed for dinner. It was a special night so I brought a pair of slacks and a blouse. The slacks were hanging up as soon as you walk through the door. They still had tags on them as I had purchased them for this trip. They were no longer there. I went to the front desk around 5:30 pm; and there was not a manager on duty. The front desk agent offered me $20 off my stay for the inconvenience. The pants were $79.00, how does that help me? Not only am I upset because they were taken I felt violated and unsafe staying there. She finally got the GM on the phone who was less then helpful. He said he would be in the following morning. I contacted the police and filed a report, unfortunately he stated that the area around the hotel is safe for the most part but they do have a lot of issues directly behind the hotel and the Pepboys. The following morning I spoke with the GM who read the locks and stated it was only the housekeeper and her supervisor in the room and the hotel is not liable for any lost or stolen items. That sounds like an invitation for your staff to steal. He said he would file a report with their insurance company but He stated you and I both know where that will go. Meaning no where. I requested that we not receive housekeeping for the remainder of our stay which then meant I had to retrieve fresh towels for our stay. While we were there I had noticed there were 2 other issues in which the police were called. The 1 time in passing I said to the officer "are there more issues again at this fine establishment"? And he replied "yes maam".
The room itself was ok, it was a little damp, smelled like bleach and the linens need a refresh desperately. The beds were not very comfortable, they both had noticeable indentations in them. I have stayed at several different hotels before while in Charleston; I have to say this was the worst. I was trying to save a few dollars but obviously it wasn't worth it. Note to self...spend the extra money, you get what...
