This hotel does not have hot water. It’s filthy. Continental breakfast …. Yeah after seeing staff out their hands all over the food without gloves I guess the only positive is gone and fail to be able to say the food at least made it worth it. My dog refused the breakfast sausage to say the least. For the exception of one individual person who was very accommodating upon our request to speak to the site manager, the demeanor of the folks employed at this location are miserable . The entire staff is aware of the problems of not having hot water though they do not disclose this to you and keep you in the room for days and days, pretending they do not understand why. Upon arrival our room was incorrect. I traveled with myself, and my son who is an adult. We requested a first floor because we were moving long distance. We had everything we owned with us, including a dog. Upon arrival we had a incorrect room and only one bed and was moved to the second floor, which required an awful lot of cardio to go up and down stairs and elevators for almost 2 days. I was very mad but tired from driving 500 miles and just needed a shower. Nope. Couldn’t have that either even after stuffing my anger about screwing up our room. After the second day of not having hot water, the staff informed us that we should alter our showering schedule at a better time when there’s not so many people showering. I was dumbfounded. 😳💩 Four days into this day and not having a manager call me back as requested. Staff suggested we would switch rooms. Although this was a suggestion, and it did not work for this family, since we had a dog and had more than the usual belongings inside one hotel room. We attempted to check out of the hotel and find a new room, but it was during Labor Day weekend and nothing was available.
Upon arriving at another hotel to see if we could find a different room we came upon a staff employee that also worked with sleep in. She additionally warned us that the manager at this location has known about not having hot water for over a year and continues to book hotel rooms and not do anything to a comfort nor accommodate complaints of the guests.
I filed a formal complaint with corporate headquarters. I did not receive a callback. I did not receive any compensation, nor did anyone suggest they would assist us moving everything from one room to another as later communicated to us this was an option ? Had it been we would have gladly. 8 days of ridiculous service and no site of Mr Gerald the manager on campus. Corporate told us we could not investigate the complaint until we had checked out and the bill was paid. I waited to do this, and upon calling corporate, they were still not accommodating and told me to contact the site manager. When explaining that the conversation I just had with him on the phone was extremely rude, insulting, I was called names, and his voice was literally yelling at me about our bill, she intervened, finally. An entire month after staying at this hotel, and taking specific notes names and ID numbers the corporate headquarters finally called me back and told me they would waive the charge for one of the nights we stayed, only !!! That credit is supposed to hit my account in the amount of $124 in which we have to wait 5-7 days to see the credit. Our bill for this hotel room with zero hot water for eight days was $1200. If I receive the credit for one night on my statement maybe I’d be able to leave at least one star - doubtful.
I will go out of my way to be sure I never ever need to get a room at sleep in at the west Ashley location and if asked I will tell my large circle of traveling folks to go anywhere else. It’s filthy and staff brings a blanket of misery to any person even asking a question of them at the desk. After interrupting one of their cigarette breaks at the front entrance doorway of the hotel , she picked up her nail file when she got behind the counter smacking her gum in my face like a bad movie , saying “yeah , now what? “
I freaking believable and...
Read moreROUND #1: The woman at the front desk was beyond rude. The closed captioning on our television was not working. When we asked for it to be fixed, as having closed captioning in a hotel room is provided under FEDERAL LAW, we were told nothing could be done until tomorrow.
The American with Disabilities Act says they MUST provide captioning to guests. We were offered a 10% discount and told that our only choice was to wait until tomorrow. Again, a clear violation of federal law. We were NOT given the option to change rooms. We were given NO option but to have no closed captioning for a 10% discount.
ROUND #2: New trip to the front desk, same woman. When I returned the desk again to plead with someone, the woman was again very rude to me. She denied that she had said that we had no option and told me she had offered another room. She refused to give me her name (I asked several times). She kept interupting me. It was clear she was mad. She was very aggressive and kept trying to justify her rudeness, especially when I said I'd be speaking with management.
Don't take my word for it - check the video. I do (finally) have the clerk's name after multiple requests.
She offered to move us to the hotel next door. It is rated less well and she refused to give us a discount for the trouble of having to move and to move to a lesser hotel.
ROUND #3: Third trip to the desk, same woman. Maybe move the TV from an empty room? A room in this hotel with a working TV was refused. Adjoining rooms that fit our party was refused. At this point, they are still out of compliance with no offer of compensation other than a 10% discount.
She told us she wasn't authorized to give us anything but a 10% discount. Therefore, she is not "authorized" to comply with federal law.
ROUND #4: We checked in at 3:00 PM. It's now roughly 6:00 PM and we are headed out to dinner when the Guest Services Manager shows up at our door. She informs us in an exasperated tone that she just drove and hour to "deal with this." I suggested that I found her to be rude. She continued to be rude.
After failing to get the captions on the TV to work, she tells us that she will swap our TV for one in another room with working captions. OK, great. I let her know I would be speaking to the General Manager about her tone. We leave for dinner. We never saw the Guest Services Manager again.
ROUND #5: We are coming in from dinner when the same front desk woman (see rounds 1-3) stops us. She lets us know that they tried another TV and it didn't work either, so she's "pretty sure" it's the TV provider and none of the TVs have working closed captioning. None of them. She is suggesting the entire hotel is out of compliance with federal law.
BUT, she assures us that we can move to the lesser hotel next door that does have TVs with captioning. It will be the same price as our room and she'll give us a 10% discount.
It's been 5 hours since we checked in. She wants us to pack up all our stuff and move next door for a 10% discount. She is not "authorized" to give us anything else.
We stay the night in our hotel room without this federally protected accommodation.
So, this hotel is in violation of federal law and we were offered no reasonable, useful, compensation for our time and trouble.
Oh, and the front desk clerk is "pretty sure" the entire hotel is out...
Read moreI had a room for Thursday night, January 2, 2025, at the Sleep Inn, 1524 Savannah Highway, Charleston, SC, and had a horrible experience. I got the room before noon and shortly thereafter left to attend a conferenced and did not return until 11:30 PM. My significant other arrived soon after 9 PM. I told the front desk that she would be arriving that night, gave her name and requested that she be provided an entry card upon arrival. All went well with this as she arrived and was provided a room card upon which she inquired about parking and was appropriately assisted. When I got in all was well.||The morning of the 3rd., hotel staff knocked on the door between 9:00 and 9:30 and was told that we would be out by 11 AM. I, unexpectedly, found out I had to be at my meeting location by 10 AM and so I left the hotel about 9:40. Prior to leaving I went to the front desk and told the attendant that I was leaving, and that my partner would check out by 11 AM. I got to my meeting and at 10:01 I received a phone call from my significant other that she was being told she had to vacate the room. They apparently knocked several times, and she was in the bathroom on the toilet so it took a couple of minutes for her to get to the door. She was also preparing to shower so she was undressed. After being told by hotel staff that she had to leave it was followed up by the arrival of two police officers who repeated that she was to leave the room. The police gave her a couple of minutes to get dressed and move everything out to her car. ||I had asked he over the phone if I needed to return to the hotel and she said no. However, she was traumatized by having her bathroom business being so interrupted and being treated such that she was no longer a welcome quest, as a result I felt her wrath for several days. The police had told her that they would arrest her if she did not proceed to vacate the premises. A little later I texted her and asked if she was ok. To which she responded "yes & no". By then she was on the way home to North Myrtle Beach. She had planned to get out and see Charleston before leaving the City, but the trauma made that unappealing. Michelle travels all over the world and this the worst experience she has ever endured at any place she has stayed.||She blames me for going to the front desk and telling them I was leaving, regardless of the fact I told them that she would still be there until about 11. Regardless, the hotel has a 11 AM checkout time and that is what is expected.||I do not ever expect to stay at a Sleep Inn again, and I will advise anyone that asks, that Sleep Inn is not a place to spend a night. ||Ironically, the town I live in has only one hotel and it is a Sleep Inn. I will insist that anyone needing a hotel room in my town to get a room 15 or more miles away. Thankfully, that is not something I would normally do as I have quest rooms at my house.||Joe Hatch, 501 West James Street, Mt. Olive, NC 28365 :...
